Greetings!
As we sit down around the table to give thanks this year, we would like to offer a special thank you to each of our Elders Climate Action members and all of our climate action allies. This year we have witnessed the climate movement gain traction and speed. We have seen tremendous growth in awareness alongside passionate intergenerational energy working together to amplify the urgency of the climate emergency.
We cannot stop here. We hope you will continue in 2020 to join ECA's actions and events, support our youth in their urgent call to action and stand up to protect our grandchildren, future generations and all life. There is much work to be done in the year ahead to ensure a safe and healthy climate future and we need YOU.

GIVING TUESDAY IS COMING SOON!
On
December 3 we will be calling on you to
support Elders Climate Action with a donation for Giving Tuesday.
G
IVING TUESDAY is a reminder of THE REASON FOR THE SEASON when we turn away from consumption and toward hope and love for our families and communities. Each GIVING TUESDAY, by the millions, we demonstrate our common capacity for generosity. 2019 has been an extraordinary year in the fight against climate change - but ECA will need your support to carry our momentum forward into 2020!

Climate Strike & Week of Climate Action
Elders across the country mobilized in September during the Climate Strike & Week of Climate Action. Members of ECA in
22 states engaged in local Climate Strike events. ECA chapters participated in additional events through the week including a Climate Town Hall in Arizona; a full day event in Northern California; event tabling and more. As a result of the Climate Strike and Week of Climate Action, as well as the
MSNBC news coverage of ECA, we had over
200 new members, nearly
140 members join ECA chapters and the
Heartland chapter was born!
Welcome to all of our new ECA members.
We have work to do!

Jane Fonda stands up for Climate Action
Jane Fonda's Fire Drill Fridays have gained attention in past few weeks. A number of elders have joined her for Friday rallies and we hope she will help build momentum in the elder climate action movement.
She [Fonda] said her target audience now is people like her who try to cut their plastic use and drive fuel-efficient cars, for instance, but otherwise “don’t know what to do and they feel helpless,” she said. “We’re trying to encourage people to become more active, across the age spectrum.”

And so are we! By joining ECA we'll make sure you stay informed of events and actions you can engage in to take action on the climate crisis.
Share ECA with your friends and family and within your community. Get your

We're Pleased to Introduce the HEARTLAND Chapter of ECA!
The Heartland Chapter of Elders Climate Action became official in October 2019. Our membership area includes all of Indiana and the bordering regions in Ohio, Kentucky, and Illinois. We will focus on education and development of green awareness and a sustainable climate mindset in our communities and governments. We will develop climate action plans built on issues important to our members. We hope you will join us as we grow and develop chapters throughout the heartland.
Community education and action will be the focus of our chapter.
Jeff Haverly
, a retired engineer has sailed the oceans, worked in power generation, and is committed to advancing awareness of the science of climate change.
Carlie Anderson
has roots in activism and has years of experience in adult education as a teacher, administrator, and director of adult education in state government. Together they agree that everyone’s input, time, and talents are important.

ECA Contributes to Informing Transportation Sector Policy
|
|
Bob Yuhnke shares his expertise by working on the ECA policy committee as well as representing Elders Climate Action on a U.S. Climate Action Network committee, working to create national policy.
Here's an excerpt from a letter submitted to Senator Jeff Merkley's office on behalf of Elders Climate Action and its members.
"On behalf of Elders Climate Action and their members, we express concerns about your bill to set a zero emission standard for all new motor vehicles by 2040. We strongly support your leadership in proposing a zero emission standard for new motor vehicles which is a critically necessary measure for achieving zero emissions from the transport sector, but we are concerned that the 2040 timeline for implementing the zero emission standard is not consistent with the scientific conclusions reported by the IPCC because it will seriously delay achieving the IPCC zero emission target beyond 2050."
