The Giving Train

On Saturday, November 9th we held our third annual LIVE! Giving Train celebration. Nearly 70 guests came together for a wonderfully fun evening of conversation, amazing food, and great music.

New this year was food from Tone's Spot Food Truck - and the food was so delicious that many asked if they could get seconds! Though the night was a bit chilly, many gathered outside to dance to the rock tunes of The Crooked Rose band. And the night would not be complete without Rev Jill and Danielle Yoch (Rector's Warden) belting out "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, complete with smoke machine effects (which really made Rev Jill and Danielle feel like rock stars!).

Our ticket sales for the LIVE event fully covered our expenses (we even made $125), which means that all the money donated to our Stations goes directly to those projects! Here are the final amounts we raised:

Station #1: $6210 (goal: $6000)

Music Program, Protection of Penn Oak, and Water Bottle Station

Station #2: $3800 (goal: $4000)

Outreach to Chester Eastside and San Andreas, Guatemala

Station #3: $4545 (goal: $4000)

Youth Group & Sunday School

Station #4: $9250 (goal: $10,000)

New Sign for Concord Rd

**MATCHED by a parishioner!** another $9250

Station #5: $4185 (goal: $6000)

General St. John's fund

Grand Total: $37,240

Thank you to everyone who generously donated to support these mission and ministry areas in the life of our parish!

And thank you to those who helped put on this fabulous event, including Tracey & Ty Payne, Martha & Paul Pearlman, Steve & Peggy Long, John Pachkowski, Ann McGonigal, Danielle & Jimmy Yoch, Glenn, Rachel & Sarah Wikel.

Holy Hikers: Turkey Trek

Work off some of those Thanksgiving feast calories with a hike on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 10 AM. We’ll meet at the Yellow Springs Trail Parking Lot at Valley Forge (1700 Wilson Rd, Malvern).  Stay for lunch afterwards at Sly Fox Craft Brewery’s Taphouse (20 Liberty Blvd, Malvern). If you could RSVP for lunch, that will help us make a reservation for after our hike.

Walk in Love: Stewardship at St. John’s

What is proportional giving?

Stewards provide their Time, Talent and Treasure to St. John’s so that we can sustain our mission and ministries throughout the year. One method of providing Treasure is proportional giving. Examples are below.

Proportional giving in church is the practice of donating a percentage of one’s income rather than a fixed amount. Rooted in biblical principles, it encourages believers to give in accordance with their financial blessings, making generosity accessible to everyone, regardless of income level. This form of giving reflects a spirit of gratitude and trust in God’s provision, emphasizing that the value of a gift is not in its size, but in the heart and sacrifice behind it. Through proportional giving, the church community can sustainably support its ministries while fostering a culture of mutual care and responsibility. Tithing (giving 10%) is the goal of proportional giving, but you can set any percentage that represents the generosity and sacrifice your family can make.

As you consider your pledge commitment to St. John’s, prayerfully reflect on how you will share these three ways God has blessed you. Please return your pledge by December 1 at saintjohnsconcord.com/stewardship

Details of the Burn Ban

The burn ban prohibits all forms of open burning, which includes any outdoor burning of materials such as garbage, leaves, grass, twigs, paper, vegetation from land clearing, and any other debris. Open burning is defined as burning conducted in burn barrels (screened or unscreened), fire rings, or directly on the ground in any outdoor location.

The following exceptions are not restricted under this temporary ban:

  • Propane or gas stoves for outdoor cooking
  • Charcoal grills for cooking purposes
  • Tobacco use in any form, such as cigarettes and cigars
  • Campfires contained within fire rings at state, federal, or Department of Environmental Protection licensed campgrounds

Enforcement and Fines

Enforcement of the burn ban will be carried out by all sworn police officers across Delaware County. Violations of the burn ban are treated as a summary offense, with the following fine structure:

  • First Offense: A fine of up to $100
  • Second Offense: A fine of up to $200
  • Third and Subsequent Offenses: A fine of up to $300

In municipalities that have existing ordinances prohibiting open burning, police officers have the discretion to issue citations under either the municipal ordinance or the County’s burn ban resolution. Please note that violators cannot be cited under both the County resolution and a local ordinance for the same infraction.

Water Conservation Encouraged

Alongside the burn ban, Delaware County encourages residents to conserve water to alleviate strain on local resources. Simple steps, like taking shorter showers, fixing leaks, and limiting outdoor water use, can help preserve water during this dry period:

  • Turn off faucets while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes.
  • Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
  • Take shorter showers and consider using water-efficient fixtures.
  • Minimize lawn watering and use brooms rather than hoses to clean driveways and sidewalks.

For more information on the burn ban, including a downloadable copy of Resolution #2024-3, residents can visit the County’s website at DelcoPA.Gov.
