The Show Must Go On
Last Week to Donate to Ballard Performing Arts Direct Give

Today is Giving Tuesday and we are in the final stretch of our direct give campaign but still very short of our fundraising goal. We need your help now. A gift of any size makes a difference. All of our BPA programs rely on a variety of voices, instruments and skills coming together to create something amazing. Now, we are relying on our parent community to join together and do the same with their giving.

Think about making a gift in honor of your favorite teacher or student. Honor their work and the joyful noise we make together. Keep this arts program vibrant for your student and our community. Your gift matters, give today.

What Your Gift Pays for

The biggest expenses this year are in providing additional instructional opportunities and supporting technology to play together and perform.

** Software and editing for classroom instruction, collaboration and performances such as Greater Tuna and the upcoming Collage Concert.
** Coaching, additional instruction time, and private lessons—available to all students, to level the playing field and offer any student resources to hone their craft.

There are also recurring administrative fees; Paypal, the copier monthly fee, our website domain, Vimeo subscription, and professional memberships for our directors, to name a few.

Here’s how it pencils out, on average:
$165 per student to pay for coaches and private instruction
$15 per student for software licenses and $50 per instructor or coach
$12 per student for t-shirts
$3 per student for sheet music

If we get an average of $100 per student, we’d be covered.

The show must go on--and thanks to you, it has--especially with our fantastic Theatre program. It takes a Village to put on our shows. Theatre performances had to go virtual this year. Check out the complicated editing, background, and production work in this Greater Tuna Sizzle Reel:

Theatre class will stage the virtual play Trifles
December 4th

Get ready for intrigue amidst December darkness. BHS’s Play Production class is staging a virtual, one-act play, Trifles, which can be viewed online on December 4.

The play was written in 1916 by Susan Glaspell—a former journalist—and it’s based loosely on a murder Glaspell covered.

The play opens at the disheveled farmhouse of John and Minnie Wright. The sheriff, the attorney, and a neighbor arrive at the house to investigate the death of John Wright, who was strangled in his sleep as his wife slept. As the sheriff looks for clues to the murder, the women examine the “trifles” of Minnie’s country kitchen. Looking closer into Minnie’s world they make a startling discovery.

Students from BHS’s Play Production class cast the show, designed the poster, selected costumes and music, and recruited students from Ballard’s film program to record the play.

Happy holidays from Ballard Performing Arts!

Here's a festive throwback of “holiday” favorites from our archives. First, the Men’s Ensemble sings “Little St. Nick”. Next, Chamber Orchestra performs “Waltz of the Flowers” from The Nutcracker. Finally, Wind Ensemble performs “Sleigh Ride”.
