Stepping Forward Project Update
|
The AJH and Columbia Construction project teams continue to make strong and steady progress in the exterior stages of the Stepping Forward project to expand the Operating Room and renovate the main entrance.
• Exterior framing and yellow sheathing is now up! This is the first layer of the exterior walls on the new addition.
• Concrete was poured on the floor in the link corridor that connects to the lobby.
• Roof installation on the new addition has begun. The crew will continue to work around the rain to complete the roof over the next two weeks.
We continue to seek community support to meet our fundraising goal. Recent gifts to the Stepping Forward Campaign include a donation from the People's United Charitable Foundation and numerous inscribed bricks. Please consider a gift today.

|
Please consider joining the 60+ individuals, families and businesses that are Stepping Forward to help AJH in its final Campaign push. Your donation of $500 or $1,000 for an inscribed brick will help upgrade our surgical facilities and enhance our exterior spaces. Your brick can honor a loved one, thank a caregiver, share an intention, or simply state your support with your name.

AJH Volunteer Honored During Yankee Homecoming
|
AJH Transport volunteer George Burtch was honored this month during the Yankee Homecoming Generations of Giving ceremony as one of two area seniors who dedicate much of their time making a difference in the community.
Burtch, age 66, has more than 200 AJH volunteer hours and two years under his belt. Though volunteering was put on hold for a bit during the COVID-19 pandemic, Burtch was one of the first volunteers to jump back in and pick up extra shifts.
“It’s incredible to see what real-life heroes really look like,” he said, noting that everyone who works at the hospital is “tremendously dedicated” to what they do. Thank you George!

Bone densitometry testing is used to measure bone mineral content and density and typically diagnoses osteopenia (decreased bone mass) and osteoporosis (thin, weak bones). It is also used to determine a patient’s future fracture risk so that these problems can be treated as soon as possible.

Amesbury Health Care Trust Gift Supports Bone Density Screening
|
To meet the evolving expectations and convenience needs of our patients where they live and work, AJH, with the support of the Amesbury Health Care Trust, is increasing access to community-based screening. The Trust's recent grant of $23,000 provides for the relocation and operational support of special bone density screening technology to compliment mammography services at the Amesbury Health Center. The screenings serve post-menopausal patients and alleviate the need for patients to visit the busier hospital campus. We expect to serve 1,000 patients with bone density screenings in Amesbury over the next year.

Local Funder Helps AJH and Elderly Women with Medical Expenses
|
Many seniors struggle to afford their healthcare. Insufficient insurance coverage, high deductibles, rising healthcare costs and widening disparity in access to healthcare services continue to adversely affect the elderly population.
This month, the Society for the Relief of Aged Women renewed a grant in the amount of $20,000 to replenish the Medical Expense Relief Fund, piloted last year. The Fund assists low-income women from Newburyport, Newbury, and Salisbury in bridging medical insurance gaps to meet healthcare expenses.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Stepping Forward Campaign to expand surgical services at AJH.
