Ultra-Cold Storage Loaned by North Shore Innoventures to Support
AJH Vaccination Program
This week, as hospitals around the country enthusiastically prepared to receive the first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and began staff inoculations, they were also dealing with the logistical challenges of maintaining the vaccine’s frigid storage requirements.

Incredibly, the AJH team learned that North Shore Innoventures (NSIV), a non-profit technology incubator in Beverly, had ultra-cold freezer capacity to share. NSIV CEO Chris Ilsley was pleased to be able to offer an ultra-cold (-80 degree) freezer for AJH use, and was willing to arrange free delivery through business partner, Tobin Scientific.

“The crisis has been a personal battle for many of us. NSIV is happy and proud that we can make the loan of this vital piece equipment as a vaccination program begins and we start the journey of getting back to normal. We look forward to continuing to identify ways we can work together going forward as a community,” said Ilsley.

NSIV Board member and Newburyport resident Bob Barton was onsite to witness AJH receiving the large freezer at the loading dock. “NSIV is thrilled to be working with another North Shore organization to battle this virus. We are thrilled that the excess freezer capacity we had is able to be put to the most excellent use. Everyone in the greater Newburyport area will benefit from this collaboration,” said Bob.

As AJH rolls out its vaccination program for staff and the community, the NSIV ultra-cold freezer will provide the safest possible storage for medication.
Teen's Act of Kindness Provides Comfort to Cancer Survivors
Isabelle Leger and her inspirational goodies.
Isabelle's goodie bags provide comfort to AJH chemotherapy patients.
Isabelle Leger, a 13-year-old from Haverhill, is spreading joy and support to patients of the Anna Jaques Cancer Center affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center through her own personal service project.

Before the pandemic hit, Isabelle contacted the Cancer Center with hopes to give back to others in honor of her aunt who underwent cancer treatment with Dr. Jonathan Eneman at the Anna Jaques Cancer Center.

Though the pandemic postponed Isabelle’s project, she remained determined and on December 1st donated 100 goodie bags with handwritten inspirational notes attached with phases such as: “no one fights alone” and “stay strong, you are awesome.”

The team at the Cancer Center immediately starting sharing the goodie bags, leaving one on every chemotherapy chair.

“Isabelle’s gift has brought so many smiles to the Cancer Center. Cancer is a difficult enough journey under normal circumstances but the pandemic has posed even more unique challenges – like the impact of restricting visitors during treatment. Isabelle’s words and thoughtfulness reminds our patients that they are not alone,” shared Dr. Jonathan Eneman, Medical Director of the Anna Jaques Cancer Center.

Inside-Out Holiday House Tour Spreads the Spirit of the Season
This year’s outdoor Holiday House Tour welcomed tourgoers from near and far to visit 15 festive front yards, porches and driveways. Keeping safe and socially distanced they enjoyed themed-venues including “Seaside Yuletide”, “Doggone Christmas”, “A Yellowstone Christmas”, and more! The event raised money for the Anna Jaques Aid Association while spreading some well needed holiday cheer.

The Aid Association would like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to our homeowners for offering their homes, our sponsor Fruh Realty, advertising partners, volunteers, tourgoers and all who have made this year’s tour possible, including Laura Kozlowski Photography for her fantastic photos.
