CELEBRATING SUCCESS
Best of the Best — Award Winning Impact on a National Scale

Nov. 13, 2023 – Fellowship Square and Enterprise Community Development (ECD) today accepted the 2023 Affordable Housing Finance “Best Overall Project” and “Best Senior Development” awards for its joint development of the Lake Anne House senior affordable housing property in Reston, Va. Lake Anne House enables financially-fragile older adults – many of whom rely solely on Social Security or Supplemental Security Income with an average income of $10,000-$15,000 per year – to be able to safely and securely age in place. The awards were given at the annual AHF Live conference in Chicago.

The Lake Anne House project, completed in 2022, was selected for its preservation of affordable housing that has enabled 300+ culturally diverse, low-income residents to age in place in Fairfax County, one of Virginia’s most expensive counties.

LeadingAge Virginia Tours Strengthen Support for Low-Income Adults

Christy Zeitz, Fellowship Square’s CEO, led a guided tour of Hunters Woods Fellowship House and Lake Anne House for LeadingAge Virginia team members. Both organizations share a common goal of assisting older adults.

The tour not only showcased the enhanced facilities and services provided by the renovated Hunters Woods Fellowship House and the redeveloped Lake Anne House, but also fostered collaboration and understanding between the two organizations, strengthening their collective commitment to supporting low-income older adults in the community.

The Comfort of Home

A nice article that sums up the benefits of living in a senior community helps to highlight why it’s so important to think about our future needs and comforts as we age. Unfortunately, those living at Fellowship House typically have little choice in planning ahead – due to their very limited incomes, few resources and the scarcity of housing that they can afford.

The Washington, DC area is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. It’s not practical to think that older adults who can’t afford to live here should just move somewhere else. Besides the costs of making such a move, many of their families reside in this area; it’s a place that they themselves were raised; and most importantly, how would an older person who has few resources know how to navigate such a major life-changing move to a more affordable part of the country. So, thousands of older adults in our region need affordable places to live.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a distinctive club that stands out in many aspects, primarily due to its leadership being solely comprised of mothers. This membership organization aims to foster the growth and development of future African-American leaders by emphasizing leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty among children aged 2-19. What sets this club apart is not only their intention to engage students in the community, but their proactive approach in creating unique opportunities for their members to contribute.
