SC Gjøa Youth Soccer is pleased to announce the appointment of John Tucker as our new Director of Operations.
John has been a parent volunteer with the club for over 11 years, helping shape our growth and philosophy. Two of John’s sons were Gjøa travel players from U8 through U19, the older of which is now playing DIII soccer in college. His younger son is a senior in high school and will age out of youth soccer in the spring.
John comes from a small business ownership background, and has been a youth sports volunteer with 78 PYC basketball, Brooklyn AYSO, as well as Gjøa Youth Soccer, working as an administrator, coach, and referee. To deepen his understanding of the work of our coaching staff, John is studying for his US Soccer D coaching license, and expects to complete the course in spring 2020.
His duties with Gjøa will include community outreach, administration, program development, and much more. He will be working alongside Director of Youth Soccer Lee Kellett, who has done so much in recent years to move our program forward.
John writes, “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to assist Lee and Jimmy in continuing their forward progress, as Gjøa has meant so much to me and my family. I look forward to helping make our youth program even better, and to continue being active in my community through this wonderful non-profit.”
Please join me in welcoming John to his new role at SC Gjøa Youth Soccer. He will begin full time in the new year, and you’ll be seeing him around at practices, games and events.
Yours in soccer,
Jimmy Svendsen
