Message from our General Manager

It’s snow season, and the Public Works Department is ready to address snow removal.

  • All of the snow trucks are functioning and ready to go.

  • The Public Works Department has secured adequate salt to address slippery roads.

  • Please note that the team follows a set plan for snow removal, and it is the same plan that they follow every year. No changes in the snow removal plan are being made.

  • If you have an emergency during a snow event, please call the front gate for assistance. You can reach the front gate at 304-763-4385.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Bennett and CGAM Commonwealth Golf Asset Management for their investment in our neighborhood. When the Board brought Mike on to the management team, they had three major goals: to find a general manager, to help organize the financial department, and to help organize the golf maintenance department. Mike has assisted the Board in reaching all three goals and has decided to move on as of January 1, 2023. We want to thank him for his leadership and wish him and his company the best of luck in all their endeavors.

Starting January 1, 2023, there will be a 3% convenience fee charged on all golf-related credit card charges. This is being instituted to offset the expense associated with the charges for credit card use in golf related areas. That means the $16,000 in expenses spent on credit card fees can be used in other areas of the budget to help offset other expenses that are needed.

We wish you and your families a very happy holiday season from the Glade Springs Village POA Management Team. You who make our community such a wonderful place, in which to live.

Respectfully yours,

Linda Horensavitz, PCAM
General Manager
Carpenter’s Corner
plastic-place-ware.jpg
The Carpenter’s Corner was created almost 20 years ago through the collaborative efforts of churches, businesses, and individual volunteers. The mission is to provide nutritious meals to those in need and to create a safe and caring environment in which to share these meals with others.

Last year, in 2021, Carpenter’s Corner served 50,996 meals. There are no income requirements, and everyone is welcome. We believe it is the responsibility of the community to provide a safety net for those who have fallen on hard times. What began as an effort to provide hot meals and companionship for a few days each week has grown into a massive effort among churches, businesses, and individuals to feed the needy for approximately twenty-eight days each month.

Food is provided by the USDA Mountaineer Food Bank, Sam’s Club, Panera Bread, Food Lion, Little Caesars, Chick-fil-A, Raleigh General, ARH, and Pizza Hut. The food is picked up by volunteers and delivered back to the Carpenter’s Corner kitchen. Volunteer crews of five to six people cook and serve the food. Meals have been prepared "to go" since COVID, posing an additional financial burden due to the high cost of take-out containers, as well as the rising cost of food.

The Glade Springs community has been extremely generous in their support of The Carpenter's Corner through food drives and raising money from a number of small golf outings. Four Glade Spring residents currently serve on the board, and eight to ten Glade residents from the Glade Community Church work on the monthly crew. For more information on working at Carpenter’s Corner or to make a donation of food or money, you can contact Robert McLaughlin at 304-677-9961.

We are now in our winter season, and we would like to remind everyone of some winter course rules and availability. The golf shop will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions. We will also be monitoring the golfshop@gladespringspoa.com email. Please call (304) 763-3332, (304) 207-2186, or you can email us at golfshop@gladespringspoa.com for information on Stonehaven during the cold weather months. We are in our frost delay season, and it is important to check conditions and/or opt-in to our text database for information. The bathrooms on the golf course are now closed for the winter season and have been winterized. Our December Sale at the Woodhaven pro shop will be on December 15-16 from 4:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. with lots of great discounts and items still available. Reminder: The Woodhaven Golf Course is closed until April 1, 2023. Our member group tee times have been put on the 2023 tee sheets, and confirmations should have been received by the group leaders. If any of the leaders have not received them, please contact Matt Felber at matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com or Tyler Farley at tyler.farley@gladespringspoa.com to request a replacement. We look forward to good weather and conditions for the upcoming 2023 golf season.
Players that are visiting Stonehaven will be required to park in the gravel parking area toward the #10 tee.

Directions to the parking area:
Coming from the main gate, continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive. Follow Edward Drive and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George Lane, turn left, and the parking area is straight ahead. Please call the pro shop at 304-763-3332, and we will pick you up and bring you and/or guests to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.

We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven Starter House. Do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot across from the Stonehaven 1st tee or the main Cobb parking areas. The GSVPOA golf staff will do our best to accommodate our POA members and all guests during this transition.

Please scan the available QR code at the Stonehaven starter house or Woodhaven pro shop. Please answer the questions on the first text so we can update your information and edit our text database. This system will be utilized for cart rules, exciting new information, and other direct messages to members.

Please call the golf shop at 304-763-3332 or email us with any questions or concerns at Golf Shop or Matt Felber's Email

The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra
conductor_music.jpg
The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra has grown tremendously from when it started in 1939 as a partnership with local chemical plants in Charleston, WV.

As of September 19, 1939, fifty-five musicians gathered for their first rehearsal at the Charleston Civic Orchestra. Under the direction of William R. Wiant, their first concert was given at Charleston‘s Municipal Auditorium on November 14, 1939. During Wiant’s years as conductor, the orchestra gave its first children’s concerts, pop concerts, and first performances of opera and ballet. The orchestra was incorporated and an Executive Board and Women’s Committee were formed to support its efforts.

The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra maintains a significant commitment to music education by supporting education programs in Kanawha County Schools, bringing Young People’s Concerts to thousands of West Virginia elementary school students annually, and providing support to the West Virginia Youth Symphony. With the assistance of the Segal & Davis Family Foundation, the WVSO has also issued a series of educational CD-ROMs, designed to integrate the Young People’s Concert experience into the regular school curriculum. This education initiative has drawn nationwide attention.
December events include: Gloria and The Nutcracker with the Charleston Ballet

Golf Course Superintendent Update
Dear GSVPOA Members,

Winter is here. The days are now shorter, and the nights have become longer. Those long, hot days of summer are now mere memories. These are all the unfortunate signs that the golf season is coming to a halt, however, that is not the case for our golf maintenance team. Late autumn or early winter is the ideal time to restore the vigor of turfgrass and make the necessary preparations for a successful spring growing season.

Our management practices during the past couple of months will significantly, and positively affect the quality of turf for the 2023 season. The goal is simply turfgrass 101. Fall is the time to improve root density and rebound growth to maintain good health going into the harsh winter months. The practices listed below are vital in aiding a successful spring season.

  1. Food/Fertilization- Cool-season grasses require fertilization in the fall to recover from summer wear and stress. Improving root density and depth provides good health going into the winter. We will fertilize aggressively with granular fertilizer following aerification (approx. .5lb of nitrogen per 1000sqft) on all bentgrass (greens, tees, and fairways) and continue foliar and quick-release applications with ammonium sulfate as we shift into winter. At this time of the year, there will be minimal top growth and the majority of the nitrogen will be utilized to produce strong, healthy roots and store carbohydrates. We will gradually back off nitrogen and increase potassium to deter winter injury.
  2. Managing Poa Annua (Annual Bluegrass)- Poa begins to recover in Fall and the last thing we want to do is to aid its recovery and cause an undesirable flush of growth. Poa Annua is prolific with seedhead production and will outcompete bentgrass in late fall and early spring. Therefore, PreEmergent herbicide will be applied for chemical control.
  3. Reduction of liquid levels- to minimize liquid levels we basically shut down all irrigation and spot-water minimally as needed.
  4. Increase HOC (height of cut)/frequency of grinding reel mowers- A sharp, clean cut is essential for recovery and will promote photosynthesis. This helps bentgrass produce and store energy instead of repairing the damage caused by mowing at tight levels. We will roll the greens more frequently to assist with smoothness and speed.
  5. Verticut and Topdressing- Light topdressing with sand will be applied frequently to protect the crown and help us come out of winter with optimal playing conditions.
  6. PreEmergent and Snow Mold- A late application of herbicide will be applied to combat crabgrass and other nuisance weeds. The final chemical application will be snow mold to protect us throughout the winter months. A follow-up application may be necessary if we happen to have a warm, wet winter.

When implementing these practices, timing is everything, but the weather is the ultimate factor in determining our late fall management program. It is always better to wait or skip an application until favorable weather conditions exist. Therefore, we constantly monitor the weather and call plenty of audibles, but our ultimate goal is to have everything completed by the first heavy snowfall. As we all know, in southern West Virginia, it is possible to have heavy snow well before Christmas.

It has been wonderful getting to know some of you over the past couple of months, and I look forward to meeting everyone on the course this spring. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays, Patrick Murphy, Golf Course Superintendent

2023 Trail Pass and Personal Golf Carts on the Golf Courses

2023 Trail Pass and Personal Golf Carts on the Golf Courses

At the November monthly board meeting, the board voted that starting in November, the POA will be selling a single option for a trial pass. The fee for the trail pass will be $600.00 but will provide access to both the Stonehaven and Woodhaven courses. The committee will do its best to plan monthly events at Woodhaven, and if you have a personal golf cart with a trail pass and are unable to drive your personal golf cart to the Woodhaven course, a POA cart will be provided to you at no cost.

The POA Board also approved that, as of November, owners who wish to use their personal golf carts on the Woodhaven and Stonehaven golf courses may do so for the golf cart fee. All personal carts are subject to the cart fee of $23.00 plus tax on each course.

The Board also approved a punch card that will be sold to POA owners only for $250.00 plus tax for twelve cart fees at either course and will be valid for that year’s season only, expiring on December 31st of the year the card is sold. All punch card users must check-in and obtain a receipt for their golf cart use prior to starting the round of golf each time.

As of January 1, 2023, all personal golf carts that are used on the POA golf courses must fall into one of two categories:
  1. Be subject to a trail pass (one per cart and non-transferable).
  2. The user of the golf cart must have paid the cart fee for the round of golf that is currently being played and be able to produce a receipt as proof of payment if asked.

If you or the owner is found to be on the course using a personal cart without a trail pass or without paying the cart fee, you will be subject to disciplinary action by the POA.
