As many know, the Woodhaven Golf Course experienced significant damage from this past summer’s drought conditions impacting fairways, greens, tees and roughs to some degree.
Restoration efforts exceeded the normal scope of work the POA might customarily undertake, and the POA turned to Ronnie Adkins of Aspen for assistance. He readily agreed to help advise the best course of action and oversaw the preparation, seeding and “grow-in” period for Woodhaven. Our task was made more challenging given the short amount of growing season remaining when we began these efforts in mid-September.
Mr. Adkins prepared a lengthy, detailed letter of all things needing to be accomplished and met with the Board and relevant staff members to outline the scope of work, all at no charge to the POA. The POA lacked some in-house expertise in all tasks needing to be undertaken, and Pyramid offered to allow JW Hamm and Keith Honaker to oversee much of this work. The amount of time and effort employed not only included rehabilitation efforts but also included supervising our staff, training the POA staff, scheduling work and being hands on to assure the work was completed properly.
Not only did those named above aid in the process, Matt Felber and Jimmie Moreland played significant roles including running machinery and the like.
After all that has been done and despite massive amounts of rain from Hurricane Helene, a great deal of course improvements have been completed including:
- Aerification and reseeding of greens,
- Significant resurfacing work for some tees and reseeding of all,
- Repair of the irrigation system, part of the original problem,
- Repair and reactivation of a number of equipment items,
- Spiking fairways and reseeding,
- Improving some drainage areas,
- Significant additional training for the staff.
The POA extends its gratitude to Ronnie Adkins, Pyramid and the staff for their efforts. We know some touch-up and repair will be needed in the spring, but great progress has been made.
The resurfacing of the bridge on crossing Glade Creek is now complete, our paving program for the year is now behind us and the POA opened the Haven in July.
The POA and Pyramid are actively cooperating to make our community a better place to live. One evidence of this is the POA assisting by providing a sponsorship with the Resort for the Christmas light project. The POA will have 1,000 tickets for owners (limit of two per household) that can be picked up at the Office, Stonehaven’s Starter House or the Woodhaven Club House. when the latter two are open. The POA suggests you call ahead to determine if someone is available at those locations.
We want to thank the members of the community, vendors and service providers who have supported us throughout 2024; we are blessed by such support. We also thank our employees who have worked hard to aid the POA’s mission. The POA hopes the Holiday Season will bring joy and peace to all.
Respectfully yours,
David Harrah
