Message from our General Manager

Dear Glade Springs Village Property Owners,
Thank you to everyone who was able to participate in the January 19, 2023, zoom community meeting. The 2023 budget was approved at the meeting and the assessments for the time period for July 1, 2023, to June 31, 2024, were set at an annual rate of $1,838.84 (monthly payment option $153.24). The assessments are being raised by five percent. Thank you to the Board, Finance Commitee and Accounting Department for assisting in budget preparation.
For those owners who were not able to attend or for those who would like to view the video of the meeting, we have provided the link below:
The POA's ACC Committee wanted to send out another reminder about the mailbox requirements in the POA. We have noticed that many homes have the incorrect mailbox post color. We have noticed a lot of white mailbox posts, and white is not allowed according to the current documents. The Management wanted to bring this to the membership’s attention and provide some time for owners to correct the issue. We will start addressing this area as of April 2023.
If you have installed a stone mailbox post / stand, the ACC is asking that you apply for the mailbox / exterior change feature before March 31, 2023.
The current Rules and Regulations say that „residential mailboxes, paper boxes, posts, and numbers will be of a uniform type and design. All boxes will be black or brown in color, cannot exceed 11„W, 15“H, 24„D, and mounted on a single black or brown post not less than 4“ X 4" and not more than 6“ X 6". Except for temporary seasonal decorations, no changes in the color or design of the box and support are permitted. It will be the property owner's responsibility to maintain the box, paper box, and post support in a condition acceptable to the postmaster of Shady Spring, West Virginia, and the letter carrier. Stand-alone paper boxes are not permitted. This is just a gentle reminder to take a look at your mailbox and ensure it is up to the regulations.
I have had complaints at the office about dogs and cats being off leash in the neighborhood. I wanted to remind everyone that all dogs are required to be on a leash when not on your property. The POA also has a rule regarding noise. We understand that dogs will bark, but excessive barking is not permitted, and we ask that you please be aware of your neighbors.
Respectfully yours,
Linda Horensavitz, PCAM
General Manager

For 25 years, Tamarack Marketplace has been an iconic road stop for all who travel I-77 through Beckley, West Virginia. The peaked red roof building is eye-catching to say the least, but it’s the mission, the artistry, and Appalachian pride that has made Tamarack Marketplace what it is today. The products of more than 2,800 artists and artisans from all fifty-five counties are sold at the regional showcase that makes it evident there is no lack of talent in the Mountain State. However, it is more than a shopping experience and art gallery. It’s a local social hub featuring artist demonstrations, Hands-On classes, and Appalachian cuisine at its restaurant with indoor, to-go, al fresco dining options, and incredible culinary events.
Hands-On Glassblowing
Let John DesMeules, our resident glass-blowing expert, guide you step by step through the process until you have completed a truly unique and one of a kind hand blown glassware! Classes are first come, first served or appointments are available upon request Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM – 4 PM. Classes take approximately 20 minutes to 30 minutes per piece. To book a glass-making session, please call 304.561.8918 or see https://www.tamarackwv.com/hands-on/

Glade Springs Village Property Owners,
Even with our winter weather, spring is near and the maintenance crew, under the direction of our new superintendent, Patrick Murphy, GCSAA has been working hard to get the courses ready. Tyler and I have been busy working on the golf operations side to be ready for our 2023 season. We have been booking events, ordering new and exciting merchandise, and are looking forward to seeing everyone enjoy the Stonehaven and Woodhaven courses this spring.
We have our 2023 Trail Pass available for purchase at this time. This year the Board has approved a single combined trail fee for both Stonehaven and Woodhaven. The fee is $600.00 plus tax. This will also include one GHIN membership with additional memberships available for $34.00 each plus tax. There will no longer be separate Stonehaven and Woodhaven trail passes. The Golf Committee will be adding member events throughout the summer to encourage play on Woodhaven. For example, when a trail pass holder plays at Woodhaven, they have complimentary use of the POA carts if needed. Previously, when we have mixed course events such as Member/Member or GSVPOA Club Championship, members with a Trail Pass to Stonehaven only, would have to pay for their cart fee(s) on the Woodhaven course. This fee will be included for the 2023 combined Trail Pass.
We also have a couple of new options for the upcoming golf season. We will be offering prepaid discounted passes for member cart fees and prepaid guest of member green fees that include cart fees. We will have a punch card that will be sold that includes 10 fees prepaid and get two free. This pass will only be valid for the 2023 season and will expire on 12/31/2023. The unused will not roll over to the 2024 season. All passes can be purchased at the Woodhaven golf shop or the Stonehaven Starter House. During inclement weather please call ahead for availability. In addition, we are now allowing private carts without a POA Trail Pass to be used on our courses provided the member pays the applicable cart fee.
For those POA members that are interested in taking advantage of booking online, please email Matt Felber's Email or Tyler Farley's email and we will reset your online access and update your username and password. This will be a great opportunity, as we are soon to install our new point of sale system that will allow you the option to pay at the tee, via your phone, and avoid any lines in the golf shop for payment of cart fees and/or guest fees if applicable. The new system has many additional functions that will be integrated as we bring it online.
Just a reminder below:
We are now in our winter season and the weather hasn’t cooperated for golfing conditions, but we have some that take advantage of the nicer days. We would like to remind everyone of winter course rules and availability. The Stonehaven Starter House will be open 10:00 am-4:00 pm depending on weather conditions. Please call (304) 763-3332, (304) 207-2186 or you can email us at golfshop@gladespringspoa.com for information on Stonehaven during the cold weather months. We are in our frost delay season, and it is important to check conditions and/or opt-in to our text database for information. The bathrooms on the golf course are now closed for the winter season and have been winterized.
Players that are visiting Stonehaven will be required to park in the gravel parking area toward the #10 tee.
Directions to parking area:
Coming from the main gate, continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive, follow Edward Drive, and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George Lane, turn left and the parking area is straight ahead. Please call the Pro Shop at 304-763-3332 and we will pick you up and bring you and/or guests to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.
We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven Starter House. Do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot across from the Stonehaven 1st tee or the main Cobb parking areas. The GSVPOA golf staff will do their best to accommodate our POA members and all guests during this transition.
Please scan the available QR code at the Stonehaven Starter House or Woodhaven Pro Shop. Please answer the questions on the first text so we can update your information and edit our text database. This system will be utilized for cart rules, exciting new information, and other direct-to-member texts.
Thank you,
Matt Felber, PGA

Know Your Risk for Winter Storms
Preparing for Winter Weather

Install and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors with battery backups. Gather supplies in case you need to stay home for several days without power. Keep in mind each person’s specific needs, including medication. Remember the needs of your pets. Have extra batteries for radios and flashlights.

Golf Course Superintendent Update
|
|
Dear GSVPOA Members,
There is no "chill“ this winter for the golf maintenance team. During this time of year, the golf courses look peaceful and serene, but this is certainly not the case for the golf maintenance staff. Behind the scenes, we are utilizing this time to the fullest.
The winter months provide us the time to focus our energy on special projects, updating course accessories, assessing staffing needs, and administrative duties. Once the golf season begins, nearly all of our energy will be focused on course conditions and special events leaving very little time for this work and course improvements.
The winter months also provide us with the time to manage our fleet of equipment. We break down every piece of equipment and perform annual required maintenance which includes a thorough cleaning with a pressure washer, changing the oils and filters, and lubricating all of the joints and fittings. We have also been grinding all of our reels and bed knives on our cutting units. This type of preventative maintenance will enable our equipment to perform better, thus improving conditions and course playability. It also directly correlates to the equipment’s reliability. Breakdowns are very costly, not to mention the downtime while waiting for replacement parts. Preventative maintenance will pay dividends well beyond the 2023 season, it will increase the longevity of our equipment and ultimately its value. The golf maintenance fleet is significant and protecting it is just good business sense.
The past couple of months has also provided us the opportunity to develop new maintenance standards as well as implement a new training program which will prove vital as we develop an experienced, efficient crew. Ultimately, the work accomplished over the past couple of months has built a stronger, more cohesive golf maintenance team. We are all very excited about the upcoming season and I hope to see you on the course. Spring is right around the corner.

Winter storms and cold temperatures:
Prepare your home and vehicle
|
|
Winter storms and cold temperatures can be dangerous. Stay safe and healthy by planning ahead. Prepare your home and vehicles. Prepare for power outages and outdoor activities. Check on older adults.
Although winter comes as no surprise, many of us may not be ready for its arrival. If you are prepared for the hazards of winter, you are more likely to stay safe and healthy when temperatures start to fall.
Prepare Your Home
Staying inside is no guarantee of safety.
- Winterize your home.
- Install weather stripping, insulation, and storm windows.
- Insulate water lines that run along exterior walls.
- Clean out gutters and repair roof leaks.
- Check your heating systems.
- Have your heating system serviced professionally to make sure that it is clean, working properly, and ventilated to the outside.
- Inspect and clean fireplaces and chimneys.
- Have a safe alternate heating source and alternate fuels available.
- If you do not have working smoke detectors, install one inside each bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement. Test batteries monthly and replace them twice a year.
-
Prevent carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning emergencies.
- Install a battery-operated or battery backup CO detector to alert you of the presence of the deadly, odorless, colorless gas. Check or change the battery when you change your clocks in the fall and spring.
- Learn the symptoms of CO poisoning: headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion.
Prepare Your Vehicle
Get your vehicle ready for cold weather use before winter arrives.
- Service the radiator and maintain the antifreeze level.
- Check your tires’ tread or, if necessary, replace tires with all-weather or snow tires.
- Keep the gas tank full to avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines.
- Use a wintertime formula in your windshield washer.
- Prepare a winter emergency kit to keep in your car in case you become stranded. The kit should include:
- Cell phone, portable charger, and extra batteries.
- Items to stay warm, such as extra hats, coats, mittens, blankets, or sleeping bags.
- Food and water.
- Booster cables, flares, tire pump, and a bag of sand or cat litter (for traction).
- Compass and maps.
- Flashlight, battery-powered radio, and extra batteries.
- First-aid kit; and
- Plastic bags (for sanitation).
