January 2022
Matt Felber, Director of Golf
Happy New Year from the GSVPOA Golf Shop! I also want to express a big 'THANK YOU' for a great 2021 golf season!

It looks like Old Man Winter has arrived and those frozen white flakes have appeared at Glade Springs Village. The Stonehaven starter shack will be open throughout the off season depending on the weather. Please call 304-763-3332 to book tee times and inquire about golf course playing conditions.

As the new year has arrived, we will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven starter building. This will be a little bit of a change from checking in at the main Cobb clubhouse. The GSVPOA golf staff will do our best to accommodate our POA members and guests during this transition. We are also working on a text database for our golfers so we can send out daily course condition messages if needed throughout the year. Please be aware we will be sending an email requesting a “signup” to receive those messages.

Special orders?? We are always here for the POA members who have special orders. If you want something, I’ll do my best to get it! We can special order items like golf clubs, personalized golf balls, headcovers, etc. Looking for something in the Golf Shop but didn’t see it? Just email matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com with your requests!

As a reminder, the Woodhaven golf course is closed from November 1, 2021 until April 1, 2022. The Stonehaven golf course will be open 7 days a week depending on weather and conditions. Please call the golf shop at 304-763-3332 for available tee times and conditions.

We are also in our frost delay season so some tee times may be pushed later until the temperatures are warm enough for play to start. After November 1, 2021, the hours at the Pro Shop at Woodhaven will be weather dependent.

Please call or email us with any questions or comments at golfshop@gladespringspoa.com or matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com.

There will be days that the golf course will remain closed due to weather or temperatures, so please check in with us before heading onto Stonehaven.

We are pleased with the drainage work that was completed in November. It has worked well so far, and we look forward to the way it will improve the course conditions of the Stonehaven Golf Course in the seasons to come.

Another November task was getting the snow mold application out on all of the tees, fairways, approaches and greens. Some members expressed a concern with why we hadn’t mowed greens when they appeared to have grown some with the warmer temperatures that we saw mid-month. The snow mold application is a costly application that is intended to protect the grass throughout the winter. If we are mowing then we are removing some of that protection that we want to last us through the winter. The fungicides used also have an interval of wait time required before they can be reapplied. We eventually did mow greens once the wait time had been satisfied, and then immediately reapplied our snow mold protection at an additional cost to ensure that our greens are protected from disease throughout the winter.

The crew has begun to dive into our winter projects starting with getting paths edged, brush blading through many of the rock areas and along outside edges of the course. We will then begin to trim back low limbs that are in play, remove trees that have died and some trees that are creating shade problems particularly for greens. We have also put a plan in place to begin removing the tree stumps that have been left in play in the past.

We are pleased to see so many of you still trying to get out to play on the course when the weather has been nice. We have been communicating with the golf shop as to how long frost delays may be or if the course will need to remain closed due to freezing temperatures. At this time of year there will still be many areas that will remain shaded which will hold the frost much longer. We ask that you avoid these areas to protect them from damage. We also ask that you keep carts strictly on the cart paths.

We would like to thank the membership for their continued support, and we look forward to seeing each of you out on the course next season.

Men's Book Club

The Glade Springs Men's Book Club meets at 6:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month. Our January, February and March meetings will be virtual via ZOOM. This allows members who are "snowbirds" to join our discussions while they are away from their homes in Glade. It also allows those who remain in our community for the winter months to avoid inclement weather, should there be any.

Our meetings from April through November are supper meetings held in either the Cobb Room or the Stonehaven Room at the main Glade Springs Clubhouse. No books are assigned for the month of December and that meeting is simply a social time prior to the Christmas holiday.

We read one book each month that is chosen by the membership and the books are almost exclusively non-fiction. Members also take turns leading our monthly conversations. Current membership stands at 12 but we have had as many as 18 members. If you would like to "sit in" on one of our upcoming ZOOM meetings in order to see what the Men's Book Club is all about, please contact Gary Schroeder at grschroed@gmail.com and send me your contact information. I will see that you receive an invitation to join the ZOOM meeting.
