July 2022
Message from our General Manager
I trust you all had a happy and safe Fourth of July celebration. I wanted to take advantage of the newsletter as an opportunity to educate the community on different issues and, in this case, to remind everyone of the assessment increase that was implemented as of July 1st. The assessment increased to $145.94. If you are participating in the POA’s Automated Clearing House (ACH) program, you don’t need to do anything; the new amount will automatically be withdrawn. If you have your bank issue a check to the POA, you will need to update the withdrawal amount. The POA has a late fee policy (that is available for review on the POA website). To avoid any confusion, I wanted to take this opportunity to review it.

The POA Assessments are an annual assessment. Since the formation of the POA, the annual assessments have been allowed to be paid monthly. The assessment payments are due by the 15th day of each month. All payment assessment payments received after the 20th day of the month will be subject to a late payment fee of $15.00. Any assessment or late payment fee not paid by the end of the following month will result in suspension of the use and enjoyment of all GSVPOA amenities.

"If two consecutive monthly payments are not paid in a timely fashion, GSVPOA shall declare the monthly assessments for the remainder of the fiscal year due and payable together with such interest thereon and costs of collection thereof as provided in Article X, Section 7 of the GSVPOA Declaration." Each owner will receive written notification when their assessments for the remainder of the fiscal year become due and payable.
With the golf and pool season upon us, we wanted to ensure that no one loses their amenity privileges unnecessarily.

You can obtain the needed form to sign up for the POA ACH program at www.gladesprignspoa.com in the governing documents section and follow the directions on the form. Our management team will be happy to assist you with the process in any way we can.

As a safety reminder, it has been brought to my attention that many of the homes in our neighborhood are difficult to find. Please ensure you have numbers on your house and mailboxes that can be clearly read from the street so that emergency services and the security team can find you if needed. It can be very hard in an emergency situation for emergency personnel to find many of the homes in our POA because they are not as clearly marked as they could be. Please consider refreshing your house numbers and mailbox numbers.

At the June 7, 2022, open monthly board meeting, the Board voted on the annual officer positions for the GSVPOA Board of Directors. The current board officers are as follows:

Rick Lay, President,
Chuck Pullins, Vice President
Rennie Hill, Treasurer
Betty Callender, Secretary
David McClure, Director

Some exciting news this month comes from Mike Sparacino who had a hole-in-one on #7 at Woodhaven on June 11, 2022. He used a 9 iron from 138 yards. Congratulations!!

Nathan Armstrong
Golf Course Superintendent
Dear GSVPOA Members,

It has been a busy month in the golf maintenance department. The weather, for the most part, has been absolutely beautiful. The courses are in full growth mode right now, which makes our priority to keep up with the mowing and daily maintenance of the golf course. Despite the challenges of hiring, we have been able bring on a few more employees and we look forward to the help that they will provide in taking our golf courses up a few notches from where we are now.

We have had some rain, that is great for knocking down the pollen and cooling the grass, but we have also had a fair amount of heat that can really stress the bentgrass. This is especially noticeable on greens where we keep the grass the shortest and it is most likely to be stressed. The crew is watching and working to keep these areas cool through hand watering and using a moisture meter to help with the amount of water that the greens may need.

You may also have noticed some fresh sand being added to our fairway bunkers on Stonehaven. We are using a fractured sand called G-Angle that has a nice color but also stacks well on the slopes of the bunkers to aid in slowing down the number of washouts that we see from heavy rain fall. We have already completed the greenside bunkers and are now finishing up the last few bunkers.

As we move forward into July, we will continue to focus on daily conditioning and make it as consistent as possible for members and guests alike to enjoy both of our beautiful courses. This is the time of year that we see an increase in rounds played, and making sure that we can get our work done is key to our success.

There are a few new signs that you will take notice of on the golf courses. All of the par threes are now permanently marked as "cart path only." There are also new "steep grade" signs posted in areas where there are steep hills. Most of these areas have been marked with a sign in the past and are there to help remind you, the member, as well as those visiting us for the first time, to be safe while traversing the golf course.

There have been quite a few people that have adopted holes on golf courses. They have been active in filling divots, repairing ball marks, and generally making the golf courses a better place to play each and every day. This effort is greatly appreciated by the maintenance staff. We would like to say a huge "thank you" to those who have been involved. If you would like to get involved in this member-driven effort to make our courses a better place to play, see the staff at the starter shack or Woodhaven clubhouse and they would be happy to put you in touch with the right people.

Thank you for coming out and playing on your golf courses. Remember to repair ball marks, replace or fill divots, and rake bunkers as you play. We’ll see you out on the courses, and as always, give the guys a friendly wave when you see them out there working to make your golf courses better.

Thank You,

Nathan Armstrong

Glade Springs Village POA
Glade Springs Village POA Employee of the Quarter
Chester Victor is the GSVPOA employee of the quarter. Chester has worked at Glade Springs since April of 2016. Chester specializes in landscaping. He has done a great job at propagating and splitting many of our plants, allowing us to increase the beauty within Glade Springs Village without having to spend a lot of money to do so.

Chester has an excellent knowledge of plant material, knowing what the deer will eat and what they won't. Chester has been working hard to mulch and beautify all of our tee signs throughout both courses. He built the new memorial garden with the bench behind the eighteenth hole on the Stonehaven golf course, and he added the two new landscape beds at the number one hole on the Stonehaven course.

Chester also maintains all of the landscaped areas around Woodhaven’s clubhouse and driveway entrance areas, as well as taking care of the back gate entrance off of Pluto Road. Please join us as we thank Chester for his years of service and excellent work
Food and Beverage Amendment
The POA board continues to work toward obtaining the necessary number of agreements for the Food and Beverage Amendment. This amendment would allow for Food and Beverage Services to be operated on our common properties only. We believe that an overwhelming number of owners agree with this change and are, in fact, looking forward to having food and beverages available at the Haven. After all, who doesn’t want to have a hamburger and a beer after golf or a snack while swimming!

We need an additional 350 agreements, approximately, to obtain the 2/3 majority of owners to amend the declaration. Almost all residents who have homes in Glade Springs have submitted their agreements. This means that the last few hundred will come from those property owners who own lots and rarely visit our beautiful community. We are actively seeking out these owners by email, phone calls, and mailed letters as well to solicit their support of this amendment.

If you or someone you know has not yet submitted your agreement to the amendment and would like to do so, please contact Betty Callender @ betty.callender@gladespringspoa.com or 304-860-1703.
Dam Socials
Monthly Dam Socials Are Happening!

They occur on the first Wednesday of each month from May through October at 6:00pm at the Chatham Lake parking lot. All residents of Glade Springs are welcome to attend.

Bring your beverage of choice and a chair. Snacks to share are always welcome.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the lake!

Send Off To Summer

From the Lake
oars_man.jpg

A little over a year ago, we stocked 350 grass eating carp (white amurs) in Chatham Lake to control a fast growing invasive plant called hydrilla. We’re happy to report that the carp are doing well and reducing the amount of this invasive plant. Several lake front residents have reported seeing them and also noting less hydrilla around their docks.

Boating season is upon us, and we’d like to remind our POA members that they must have a Chatham Lake use annual permit for their motorized boats and trailers. These permits may be obtained at the POA Office. Two permit stickers must be displayed on the boat (both sides of the front of the boat). Trailers must also display a permit sticker, in a location which is easily visible to the guard at the front gate (driver’s side on the front of the trailer).
