Food and Beverage Amendment
|
|
The GSVPOA Board of Directors has heard from our Members and their guests that they want access to food and beverages while enjoying our amenities on our common properties. These include during and after golf play and while enjoying the swimming pool and tennis court at Woodhaven. To accomplish this the Covenants need to be amended by the members.
The amendment will allow GSVPOA the right to provide food and beverage services on the Common Property of Glade Springs Village, such as Stonehaven and Woodhaven. We believe that amending the covenants will enhance the enjoyment of our amenities for Members and guests; improve our property values; and make Glade Springs Village more attractive to potential buyers.
If you have any questions about this amendment, there is further information available on the GSVPOA website: gladespringspoa.com. Please click on Covenant 22 to read the introduction, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), and a sample agreement form.

Hello GSVPOA Property Owners,
As the 2022 golf season approaches, the golf staff and I are excited to see everyone as the weather continues to warm. Our rental fleet of golf carts is arriving at Stonehaven and will be in use until our fleet of new carts are delivered this summer. We are also in the process of building a storage area and parking lot near the cul-de-sac on George Lane. This is along the cart path going to #10 tee. For now, we will be staging carts in the area around the Stonehaven Starter Building.
Players that are visiting Stonehaven should park in the cul-de-sac of George Lane.
Directions to parking area:
Coming from the main gate continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive, follow Edward’s and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George turn left and the cul-de-sac is straight ahead. Please call the Pro Shop at 304-763-3332 or 304-207-2186 (cell) and we will come and pick you up and take you to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.
We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees at the Stonehaven Starter House.
Please do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot or the main Cobb parking areas.
We ask for your patience and understanding during this transition. The GSVPOA golf staff will do our best to accommodate our members and guests during this new process.
The 2022 Stonehaven and Woodhaven Trail Passes are available for purchase and pickup at the Woodhaven Golf Shop or Stonehaven Starter House.
As a reminder, the Woodhaven golf course will open on April 1, 2022. The Stonehaven golf course will be open 7 days depending on weather and conditions. Please call the Golf Shop at 304-763-3332 for available tee times and conditions.
We are still in our frost delay season so some tee times may be pushed later until the temperatures are warm enough for play to start.

GSVPOA Members,
Writing a course update in a week with 50 plus degree temperatures makes it feel like spring has arrived. From a seasonal standpoint, March is the onset of spring and the membership starts turning out as soon as the sun is shining, ready to knock the rust off of their golf game.
With this comes a reminder that the warmer weather doesn't necessarily mean that the course is ready for normal play. All the water from melting snow and ice needs somewhere to go. While the snow might be gone, the ground could still be frozen in shaded areas. This will create saturated conditions because water cannot penetrate the soil profile. Even if the ground isn’t frozen, cool temperatures and short days mean it will take a while for the golf courses to dry out.
The golf courses are very wet right now, even if they appear to be dry, and they are certainly not ready to handle the golf cart traffic. This is unfortunately the case every spring and this year is no different. Whatever traffic damage occurs in the coming weeks will linger until the grass resumes active growth, which could be 45 or more days from now.
The golf season may not quite be here yet, but it will be here very soon. In the meantime, please observe 'Cart Path Only'. Let the maintenance staff finish their winter projects and get the course prepared for another great season.
We’ll see you out here soon, and as always, give the guys a friendly wave when you see them out there working to make your golf courses better.
Thank You,
Nathan Armstrong, Class A

Southern WV now a National Park Destination
|
|
In December of 2020 when the New River Gorge National River was redesignated a National Park and Preserve we in tourism were very optimistic, but also unsure what the redesignation would mean to our region and our state. Based on studies of the eight National Monuments which were redesignated as National Parks it was projected that we would see a 21% increase in visits in the five years after redesignation compared to the visitation of the five previous years. That type of growth potential was exciting, little did we know that those projected numbers would be exceeded in the first 12 months.
As we look back on our first full year of being the home of America's 63rd National Park we can say without question that it is a game changer for West Virginia on many levels. Media in National and International markets are singing the praises of the beauty of West Virginia and the New River Gorge. Through the WV Tourism Department we have had visits from Good Morning America, CNN, and CBS This Morning. West Virginia has been featured in Lonely Planet - Top Travel Region, Conde Nast Traveler - Best Places to Go in 2022, Frommer's - Best Places to Visit in 2022 and USA Today - Top 10 Family Destinations. Visit Southern West Virginia has hosted freelance writers who have been published in the Chicago Tribune, AAA World and Parade Magazine, and many more who have written for online media such as Yahoo.com, USAToday.com, MSN.com and more. We have seen increased bloggers and influencers coming into our area to visit the park and share their stories with their audiences.
The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve has seen an increase of 30% in visitation compared to pre-pandemic (2019) numbers and according to the Annual Report released by the WV Department of Tourism the state has also seen a 26% increase in whitewater rafting trips, 46% increase in Hatfield and McCoy permits, 37% increase in skier visits and visitor arrivals are at an all time high.
Based on our analytics and requests at Visit Southern WV, we saw the first big jump in interest beginning in May of 2020. West Virginia was a very appealing destination for those looking for small towns, smaller crowds and outdoor opportunities. Combining this with the designation in December of 2020 our 2021 hotel numbers returned to 2019 occupancy levels and as mentioned above many of our primary attractions are seeing growth.
The visitors themselves are evolving. We are seeing what we call 'park people' whose primary reason to visit is to visit the park, our visitors are coming from further away and they are interested in seeing more of the park and what the region has to offer.
With growth comes growing pains but we so many communities and organizations rising to the challenge to expand infrastructure and opportunities for those who are visiting, those who live here and those who may eventually see West Virginia as a place they would like to call home.

Director, Visit Southern West Virginia
