Message from our General Manager

Dear Community Members:
Day Light Saving time starts March 12, 2023, don't forget to adjust your clocks.
On a recent trip to the Woodhaven Maintenance Shop, I was excited to see one of our winter staff members working on new tee markers for the Woodhaven course. They are going to look great on the course this summer.
On Stonehaven, you will note that drainage work is being addressed. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this will help address the pooling water and improve your overall golf experience. I have included a photo below of the drainage work on Stonehaven.
Rules and Regulations Reminders: it’s all about the can, the trash can that is, the current Rules and Regulations require that your household trash be inside of the trash can, even when placed at the curb on your trash pickup day. If you have a bulk pickup scheduled or your vendor misses a pickup at your home creating additional trash, please let the POA office know about your situation.
TRASH CONTAINERS
- Trash containers are mandatory and must be stored inside garages, basements, or fenced areas. No trash containers may be visible from the common areas, including the streets and sidewalks. Trash containers must be screened from public view.
- Individual bags containing household trash at the curb are not acceptable. Bags may only be used for lawn debris. This is to prevent birds and other animals from ripping the trash open and the trash littering the neighborhood and attracting wildlife to the area.
- Trash containers shall be removed from the street on the day the garbage service runs. If an owner’s trash service company misses an owner's trash service pick-up, then the owner shall contact the POA office and inform the management staff if they will need to leave the trash containers out for a separate pick-up.
- If an owner has a bulk trash pickup scheduled, owners shall contact the POA management office to make them aware of the bulk pick-up so that staff can address any complaints at the office.
- Fines will be issued in accordance with the Board’s approved Fine Policy. The Fine Policy can be obtained on the POA’s website or by requesting a copy from the POA management staff. A copy of the current policy has also been attached to this document.
Respectfully yours,
Linda Horensavitz, PCAM

Glade Springs Village Property Owners,
I am sure everyone is looking forward to the official start of the 2023 golf season at Stonehaven and Woodhaven. As we get into our spring weather (more available days for golf!), we have a few items we would like to remind everyone about as we start the new season. For those players who would like the opportunity to tee off on holes near their homes (instead of the #1 tee), please be sure to call the golf shop for availability and to let us know you will be on the golf course. We need this information for various reasons, including scheduled golf maintenance, safety, and the collection of rounds data to name just a few. It is important to not jump in front of other POA members or guests when not checking in and starting at #1.
The morning text database has been well received, and we continue to add highlights to cart rules, hours of operation, and other important information in a quick morning text. If anyone is not receiving those messages, please stop by the Stonehaven Starter House and scan the QR code to add your number to the list. Anyone who has "opted out" will have to scan the barcode again to begin receiving the morning messages because we as staff are unable to add you back into the database from the software.
We have our 2023 trail pass available for purchase. This year, the board has approved and moved forward with the combined trial fee of $600.00 plus tax. This will also include one GHIN number, and additional numbers may be purchased for $34.00 plus tax. There will no longer be a separate Stonehaven and Woodhaven trail pass. The Golf Committee will be working on adding fun events throughout the summer on the Woodhaven golf course. For example, when a trail pass holder plays at Woodhaven, they have access to the fleet carts if needed. Previously, when we have mixed course events such as Member/Member or the GSVPOA Club Championship, the former Stonehaven trail pass-only holder would have to pay for their cart fee(s) on the Woodhaven course. This will be included for the 2023 season.
We have a couple of new options for the upcoming golf season. We will be offering discount passes for prepaid member cart fees and prepaid guest of member green fees that include cart fees. We will have a punch card that will be sold that includes 10 fees prepaid and gets you two for free. This pass will only be valid for the 2023 season and will expire on December 31, 2023. The unused time will not roll over to the 2024 season. All passes can be purchased at the Woodhaven golf shop or the Stonehaven starter house. During inclement weather, please call ahead for availability.
For those POA members that are interested in taking advantage of booking online, please email Matt Felber at matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com Tyler Farley at tyler.farley@gladespringspoa.com and we will reset your online access and update your username and password. This will be a great opportunity as we are soon to install our new point of sale system that will allow you the to pay at the tee, via your phone, and avoid any lines in the golf shop for payment of cart fees and/or guest fees if applicable. The new system has many additional functions that will be integrated as we bring it online.
Just a friendly reminder.
We are now in our winter season, and the weather hasn’t always cooperated for golfing conditions, but we have many that take advantage of the nicer days. We would like to remind everyone of the winter course rules and availability. The Stonehaven Starter House will be open 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions. Please call (304) 763-3332, (304) 207-2186, or you can email us at Golf Shop Email for information on Stonehaven during the cold weather months.
We are in our frost delay season, and it is important to check conditions and/or opt-in to our text database for information. The bathrooms on the golf course are now closed for the winter season and have been winterized. The Woodhaven Golf Course is closed until April 1, 2023. If anyone would like to purchase items from the golf shop at Woodhaven, please email matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com Tyler Farley at tyler.farley@gladespringspoa.com for availability during the winter season.
Players that are visiting Stonehaven will be required to park in the gravel parking area toward the #10 tee.
Directions to the parking area:
Coming from the main gate, continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive, Follow Edward Drive, and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George Lane, turn left, and the parking area is straight ahead. Please call the golf shop at 304-763-3332, and we will pick you up and bring you and/or guests to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.
We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven Starter House. Do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot across from the Stonehaven 1st tee or the main Cobb parking areas. The GSVPOA golf staff will do their best to accommodate our POA members and all guests during this transition.
Please scan the available QR code at the Stonehaven Starter House or Woodhaven golf shop. Please answer the questions on the first text so we can update your information and edit our text database. This system will be utilized for cart rules, exciting new information, and other direct-to-member texts.
Thank You,

Golf Course Superintendent Update

Dear GSVPOA Members,
Spring Preparations and Conditions
As we transition from winter to early spring, we implement a number of different cultural practices in anticipation of the inconsistent weather that we encounter here in southern WV during this shoulder season. We all know that time is precious, so we are diligently working through all of winter's little surprises and executing essential maintenance, making sure all the legwork is complete for a successful season. The plan that we have in place will help to manage the uncontrollable events, providing excellent playing conditions for now but, more importantly, ensuring the courses will be in championship form for spring, summer, and beyond.
We will be rolling fine surfaces before the first cut is made to smooth any surface irregularities, which are inevitable from soil expansion and heaving from our regular freeze and thaw. Cut heights will be raised to reduce the risk of damage and to aid in spring cleaning. Following this initial cut, we will supplement regular mowing with rolling as needed until the turf resumes active growth. Plant growth regulators will also be used to stretch out our mowing frequency, enabling us to focus our efforts on the other areas that will require attention post-winter. These applications also assist in the suppression of the unsightly annual bluegrass seed head, minimizing its expansion, as it thrives in these conditions. Soil temperatures are being closely monitored, and we continue to scout for any active disease.
Also, please be prepared for cart restrictions during the month of March. Turf becomes easily saturated as a result of snowmelt and slow-thawing soil profiles. This, in conjunction with slow turf growth, means that fine turf areas will always stay wetter longer in the early spring. Once these conditions are combined with cart traffic, we end up with rutting and/or soil compaction. So please stay aware of the daily cart rule and realize that any restriction is for the benefit of the course and will begin to relax in the coming weeks.

Only ballots with one vote for each candidate will be counted. Ballots with no markings or both “For” and “Against” marked will not be counted as valid ballots. The Beckley Welcome center, located at 406 Prince Street, hosts the bike share program. About Bike Beckley, by using the On Bike Share Smartphone App, riders can select and unlock a bike straight from their phone. Once the ride is completed, bikes are returned and docked back in the rack at the Beckley Welcome Center. On Bike Share software tracks all bike and rider activity so information can be tracked in real-time.
A credit card is needed when you register to use the On Bike Share Smartphone App. Bikes can be checked-out at the Beckley Welcome Center at “no charge” as long as they are returned back to the Welcome Center docking station.
The benefits of implementing a bike share pilot in Beckley are in line with those of other cities that have established successful systems. In general, bike share systems are inexpensive and quick-to-implement transportation options and based on other cities’ experience can deliver a variety of transportation and mobility, economic, health, safety, and quality of life benefits. As has been seen in U.S. cities with existing programs, bike shares can provide a fundamental shift in the way people move about and make decisions on transportation.
Come check out a bike and ride the trail!!!

While even though we live in a golf community, outside our community is a wild and wonderful world of nature and many trails that can take you there.
Just within the New River National Gorge National Park and Preserve there are 100 miles of trails. The New River Gorge National Park includes the Gauley River National Recreation Area as well as the Bluestone National Scenic River. Within these areas, there are many trails, some easy and short, some strenuous. You can go to nps.gov.neri to see the hikes, as well as visit the Visitor Centers, and any Ranger will help you plan hikes.
We also have some great State Park trails around us. Little Beaver is literally right next door to Glade Springs. Babcock State Park about 1 hour away has awesome trails and a gristmill that can’t be missed seeing. Camp Creek, Brush Creek Falls, and Pipestem are south of us with trails within those parks that are fun to hike. Twin Falls State Park is also nearby with good trails.
If driving far to go hiking is not for you, there are trails around Piney Creek at the YMCA Soccer Complex right in Beckley. Those trails are right here in the city of Beckley but offer a time and space to get back in nature.
So, when you want to take a break from golfing and want to take a walk in the woods, there are so many great options around you to take. Your heart and mental being will thank you. As John Muir, a philosopher once said: "in every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks“
Thank you to Jackie Wright for submitting this article we are thankful you are part of our community.
