May 2022
Matt Felber, Director of Golf
Glade Springs Village Property Owners,

Golf season 2022 is here and we are ready to serve you and all guests that play our Village golf courses.

The GSVPOA golf staff and I are excited to see everyone enjoying golf on our two fantastic POA golf courses. Our Woodhaven Proshop is now fully stocked and open for our members and guests. New merchandise and the addition of new clothing lines should be a fresh option for everyone.

Now that we are in our normal golf season Stonehaven is closed on Mondays and Woodhaven is closed on Tuesdays. We are offering play on these days to MEMBERS with private carts and a 2022 trail pass after 4:00 pm on Monday at Stonehaven and after 4pm on Tuesday at Woodhaven. Please call or email golfshop@gladespringspoa.com for information on Stonehaven regarding holiday Monday’s openings.

For now, we will continue staging carts in the area surrounding the Stonehaven Starter House and offer shuttle service up to the Stonehaven Starter House.

Players that are visiting Stonehaven will be required to park in the gravel parking area toward #10 tee.

Directions to parking area:
Coming from the main gate continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive, follow Edward Drive and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George Lane turn left and the parking area is straight ahead. Please call the Proshop at 304-763-3332 and we will pick you up and bring you and/or guests to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.

We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven Starter House. Please do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot across from the Stonehaven 1st tee or the main Cobb parking areas.

The GSVPOA golf staff will do our best to accommodate our POA members and all guests during this transition.

The 2022 Stonehaven and Woodhaven Trail Passes are available for purchase and pickup at the Stonehaven Starter House. Just a reminder that all private carts used on either course will be required to have a 2022 Trail Pass.

We will be reaching out through email to sign up for the new text messaging system for our golfers to communicate daily course conditions as needed. We will be sending an email to “signup” in order to receive these messages. There is also a QR code available at the Stonehaven Starter House or Woodhaven Pro Shop.

Please call the golf shop at 304-763-3332 for available tee times and conditions. Since we are still in our frost delay season, tee times may be delayed until the temperatures are warm enough for play to start.

If you are a POA member and are interested in using The Haven for a member get together please email matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com.

Please call or email us with any questions or concerns at golfshop@gladespringspoa.com or matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com

Nathan Armstrong
Golf Course Superintendent
GSVPOA Members,

Golf is a game that many approach with a great deal of excitement and anticipation. Every day is a good day when you are playing golf, unless it rains. You don’t play golf because you think of it as a workday. You play because you want to be outside enjoying nature.

This is not to say that when you play golf, things don’t become annoying or frustrating. From a maintenance perspective, there are a few annoyances that golfers could avoid to make sure that they keep their POA courses in the best shape.

  1. A good place to start is the practice green. It is great to see many of you spending the time in practice. Some though will stand in the same position, hitting the same putt over and over again. The majority of golfers who hit a few practice putts before teeing off are not an issue. It’s the golfer who stands in the same place for what seems like forever. In summertime conditions the result is severe wear and turf thinning under their shoes. Remember to keep moving around as you practice. If you stop to talk with your fellow golfers, just step off the green into the rough to have that conversation.
  2. Sunscreen and insect repellant are common products that many of you keep in your golf bag. While they do a great job of keeping the bugs and sun from your skin, they can also do a number on the greens. Symptoms often appear as healthy green footprints surrounded by a brownish circular area. Fortunately, the turf often recovers with new leaf growth. Still, golfers should apply these products on the cart path, or if necessary, the rough.
  3. Small burn areas caused by a lit cigar or cigarette placed on the putting surface is becoming more common. Even the action of flicking ashes onto the putting greens can cause turf injury. There are several different types of cigar and cigarette holders available on the market, many for less than 10 dollars.
  4. Ball marks! Fixing a ball mark has been a part of the game since the first ball mark was made. Making a ball mark is common especially early in the season when the greens are really soft. Please take the time to repair your ball marks and look around to see if there are any others that you could also repair to keep the greens as smooth as possible.
  5. Finally, taking a divot on a green is one of the worst things that a golfer can do. Whether out of anger or frustration from a missed putt, this type of damage shows a lack of respect for the golf course and your fellow members. It also takes more time and effort to get the divots repaired. Last season it seemed we were finding them on a regular basis.

These are just a few of the annoyances that we see out on the golf courses. Putting greens are where we strive for maintenance perfection. Our goal is to provide the very best putting greens that we can. We could eliminate many of these annoyances if golfers looked at our putting greens as a point of pride.

In our effort to provide the best greens that we can, I'd like to remind you that Woodhaven will be closed from May 3rd to May 6th and Stonehaven from May 9th to 12th for our spring aerifications.

Thank You,

Nathan Armstrong, Class A

2021 GOLF DIGEST Ratings
Woodhaven #5 and Stonehaven #7
For the first time in Glade Springs Village Golf History both of our courses were rated in the top 10 (public and private) in the state of West Virginia!

Woodhaven was rated 5th in the state and Stonehaven was 7th.
Congratulations go out to our maintenance and design teams, BRAVO!

The rating was conducted by Golf Digest in May of 2021. We are excited to see the 2022 ratings!

The team from Golf Digest rates courses in the USA on an annual basis by the following six criteria:

SHOT SELECTION: How well does the course provide a variety of options of shots, risk and reward. Woodhaven certainly challenges the best as well as #16 on Stonehaven.

CHALLENGE: Is the course challenging, yet fair to all levels of golfers.

AESTHETICS:  How well does the scenic values of the course add to the pleasures of a round?

CONDITIONING: Are the greens firm and yet receptive, how true is the roll of the putts.

CHARACTER: How well does the course offer unique and ingenious course design?

FUN: Is the course enjoyable to all levels of golfers.

The quiet of the courses, scenic views and actually having to wait for the deer or wild turkeys to clear the tee is truly beautiful. The drive through the woods on Woodhaven while watching a variety of creatures jump about from the beautiful flowers and fauna and the thrill of holding on tight while riding down the switch-back on Stonehaven 16 make our courses unique.

What is better than a round of golf where you glance up and see deep blue skies, glance over to the lake and view mountain vista’s everywhere!  If you can’t score an eagle, you may see one above! As they like to say in our part of the woods… “almost heaven” all in our own backyard.
Food and Beverage Amendment
The GSVPOA Board of Directors has heard from our Members and their guests that they want access to food and beverages while enjoying our amenities on our common properties. These include during and after golf play and while enjoying the swimming pool and tennis court at Woodhaven. To accomplish this the Covenants need to be amended by the members.

The amendment will allow GSVPOA the right to provide food and beverage services on the Common Property of Glade Springs Village, such as Stonehaven and Woodhaven. We believe that amending the covenants will enhance the enjoyment of our amenities for Members and guests; improve our property values; and make Glade Springs Village more attractive to potential buyers.

The Board respectfully asks you to sign the agreement to amend the Protective Covenant number 22 to accomplish the change. Please promptly sign, date and return it to us.

If you have any questions about this amendment, there is further information available on the GSVPOA website: gladespringspoa.com. Please click on Covenant 22 to read the introduction, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), and a sample agreement form.

Glade Springs Earth Day Litter Pickup

Thanks to the residents who helped in the Earth Day litter pickup in our Glade Springs community. We had approximately 25 participants. Also thanks to Security for their help.
Adopt a Hole
Over the past month, a number of property owners have volunteered to spruce up our Stonehaven and Woodhaven courses. This has included sanding divots, picking rocks from bunkers, removing debris from drainage grates and edging and painting the 100/150/200/250 yard cement markers in the fairways.

We would like to continue these efforts by property owners “adopting a hole” to periodically perform these tasks. Sand can be found in bags at the starter house and the halfway house. If just a bottle or two needs filled, use the divot boxes on the par 3’s.

One additional task for those adopting a par 3 would be to fill ( about half way) the divot boxes and sand badly beat up areas on the tees.

There will be a signup sheet in the Stonehaven Starter House to pick a hole. There is certainly room for multiple residents to share a hole. Let’s give this program a try to keep our courses in the great shape they are.
