Message from our General Manager
|
|
We are moving into the Thanksgiving season and the entire Glade Springs Village POA team would like to thank the army of volunteers that help serve our neighborhood. Without all of the committee members, five board members, all those who adopted a hole on the golf courses, and those who volunteered at events this year, A very special thank you to the board members and committee chairs. Your hard work has benefited the entire membership. In the seven months, you have chaired over thirty-five meetings, we could not have done it all without you.
The newly approved ACC Rules and Regulations are fully enforceable now. If you need to review a copy of the updated regulations, you can do so online at
On October 10th, at about 1:30 am, the Woodhaven Clubhouse sign was vandalized by a group of teenagers. The event was reported to the local authorities, and video of the event has been turned over to the Sheriff Department. The incident caused over $1,000.00 in damage to the sign, which is still missing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the local authorities.
Our new golf course superintendent is working to correct the ruts on the golf courses. I would ask you to please be patient and remember that this is not the grass-growing season. It will be the spring before we see a major improvement in this area, but our team is aware of and working to correct this issue.
Respectfully yours,
Linda Horensavitz, PCAM
General Manager

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SEASON IS HERE!
|
|
The Glade Springs Community has been supporting Operation Christmas Child (OCC) for several years now. Once again you are asked to consider filling shoeboxes as a tangible expression of God’s love and to let children know they are not forgotten.
HOW: Preprinted OCC shoeboxes with instructions inside are available at Glade Community Church or by contacting Pat Macak (954-647-3810), a year-round volunteer for the SE WV Area Team. You may use the regular shoeboxes you have at home. OCC plastic containers can also be purchased at Hobby Lobby.
You decide the gender and age (2-4, 5-9, 10-14). Fill the shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items, and one or two quality toys or items of clothing. A photo of you and/or a note adds a personal touch. Remember, your shoeboxes will be given to children throughout the world, many of whom have never received a gift before.
WHERE: Drop off your shoeboxes at Glade Community Church or to Pat Macak, 439 Club Circle (look for an orange container outside her garage). Shoeboxes collected at these two locations will be delivered to Drop-Off Centers located in Beckley and Ghent.
WHEN: THE DEADLINE FOR DROPPING OFF THE SHOEBOXES IS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13.
If you would like more information or have any questions, please feel free to text or call Pat Macak at 954-647-3810.

Glade Springs Village Property Owners,
As we close out another season with our GSVPOA courses, Stonehaven and Woodhaven, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support. The 2022 golf season had more than its share of rainfall, but we made it through. Our new superintendent, Patrick Murphy, has hit the ground running. We look forward to his leadership with our maintenance crew throughout the winter months. Woodhaven Golf Course will close for the season on October 31, 2022, and reopen on April 1, 2023. The Stonehaven golf course will remain open throughout the off-season depending on weather and course playability. The course conditions text database is growing, and we are working with maintenance daily to get out the information concerning frost and freeze delays. Starting November 1, 2022, if weather permits, the Stonehaven golf course, and starter house will also reopen on Mondays until April 1, 2023. As of November 1, 2022, the golf shop at Woodhaven will be open weather dependent, but we will still be available to make purchases for gifts or those last-minute winter golf trip needs. SPECIAL ORDERS!! If you need special gifts or personalized golf balls for Christmas gifts, please let us know. There is still time to use your gift certificates in the golf shop. We will also have a holiday sale closer to the Christmas holiday, so make sure to check your emails and text alerts.
Please call (304) 763-3332 or email Golf Shop Email. for information on Stonehaven during the cold weather months.
Players that are visiting Stonehaven will be required to park in the gravel parking area toward the #10 tee.
Directions to the parking area:
Coming from the main gate, continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive. Follow Edward Drive and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George Lane, turn left and the parking area is straight ahead. Please call the golf shop at 304-763-3332 and we will pick you up and bring you and/or your guests to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.
We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven Starter House. Do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot across from the Stonehaven 1st tee or the main Cobb parking areas. The GSVPOA golf staff will do their best to accommodate our POA members and all guests during this transition.
Please scan the available QR code at the Stonehaven Starter House or Woodhaven Golf Shop. Please answer the questions on the first text so we can update your information and edit our text database. This system will be utilized for cart rules, exciting new information, and other direct-to-member texts.

Meet the New Golf Course Superintendent
|
|
Dear GSVPOA Members,
In October we welcomed a new Golf Course Superintendent to our team. Please join me in welcoming Patrick Murphy to our beautiful neighborhood.
Prior to joining Glade Springs, Patrick served as the Golf Course Superintendent at The Greenbrier Sporting Club since 2016 and the Assistant Superintendent since 2012. This is where he perfected his craft and expanded his knowledge, allowing him to provide the quality that all clubs strive to attain. Patrick executed the renovation of The Snead golf course in 2016/17 after the 100-Year Flood, and he also successfully grew The Ashford course shortly thereafter. He worked closely with industry leaders and top outfits such as Fazio Design, Medalist Golf, and Winterberry during these projects, building relationships that are invaluable in the golf industry. Turf is not the only aspect of golf that Patrick has experience in. Prior to the Sporting Club, Patrick spent time as an Assistant Golf Professional for Wild Dunes Resort in Charleston, South Carolina, and Palmetto Dunes Resort on Hilton Head Island.
Patrick is no newcomer to our Appalachian landscape, as he was born and raised in the Greenbrier Valley. This is where he developed a love and appreciation for the game and instilled him with southern values.
Patrick is passionate about golf and the pride he takes in his work will be obvious and shown through the team. He brings with him a contagious work ethic that is tried and true and has produced results that are second to none. Patrick believes that success is not achieved individually but as a result of a dedicated team that works hard and takes pride in their work.
Patrick looks forward to seeing you all as we gear up for the 2023 season, so please don’t hesitate to say hello when you see him out on the course.
If you need to reach Patrick, you can email him at

If interested in participating, please complete and send in the form by November 8th.
The Veterans Parade line-up will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. at Park Middle School (floats and vehicles) and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza (bands, walking units, and military vehicles). An awards ceremony will occur after the parade at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza.
After the parade, the Veterans Day celebration continues with a few more activities:
Several school marching bands will perform music from their regular pregame or halftime shows on the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza between 12 and 1 pm.

At 2 pm, the Raleigh County Veterans Museum will host their Healing Field ceremony on Harper Road.
The City of Beckley is also planning a traditional downtown Christmas parade on Saturday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m. The theme will be "Candy Canes & Christmas Treats." Registration forms and details can be found at www.beckley.org. Awards will be presented in a variety of categories.
CANDY DURING PARADES: Please do not throw candy or objects from your float or vehicle. Do not allow children riding on entries to drop candy beside vehicles. Children often run into the street after candy and risk getting hurt. If you wish to distribute candy or items, please have someone walk alongside your entry to distribute them. If watching the parade with children, please keep the children on the sidewalks. Candy in the street has become a safety issue and a concern for those driving in the parade and the parade committee.

At the September 13, 2022, board of directors meeting, the GSVPOA board of directors voted to update the current rules and fees on the owner assignment of amenities privileges. The changes to the policy will go into effect on January 1, 2023.
Why?
In an effort to bring clarity to the rules and regulations, provide direction to the staff, and provide an adequate income for the POA the Board acting in the best interest of the membership has updated the Assignment of Amenity Rights Policy.
What has stayed the same?
- Owners with multiple properties in GSVPOA may still assign their amenity rights to another party in place of themselves.
- You must list the assigned parties on the designation form.
- The owner shall remain jointly and severally liable with the assignee for any breach of duties and responsibilities under the declaration.
- During the period of the assignment, of one year, the assignee shall have the easement of enjoyment instead of the owner.
What has changed?
-
In an effort to provide clarity, the Board has clarified that each owner must designate in writing up to two individuals to whom the amenity rights may be assigned (the ability to use the facilities).
- Both authorized/assigned parties must be listed on the designation form at the time of assignment.
- A $200.00 fee will be assessed per assignment, but the fee will now be charged as an annual fee rather than a one-time fee.
- The term of assignment/fee will be from January 1st to December 31st.
- The individual assigned amenity rights shall be updated annually and can be changed only once per calendar year when the owner designates this change in writing to the GSVPOA Board of Directors with the annual renewal of the designation form and annual payment.
What do you need to do?
If you have a second lot and you currently have assigned your amenity rights to someone else. You will need to fill out the Designation form, have it signed by the two designated individuals who will have access to the amenities, and turn it into the POA office with the $200.00 fee prior to December 31, 2023, in order for the amenity rights to remain active. The designation form is available online on the POA website and at the POA office.

The Beckley Concert Association has announced the 2022-2023 Season Schedule.
|
|
Beckley Concert Association had its beginning in January of 1938 when a group of community-minded ladies met for the purpose of organizing a concert association. Mrs. William (Mabel) Taylor, president, and Mrs. Thomas (Louise) Wickham vice president along with other officers held the first membership drive in April of that year. 736 members were enrolled exceeding the goal of 500. A significant result for a new Beckley community venture.
Before claiming the newly constructed Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium in 1988 as the choice venue with first-class acoustics and facilities other locations provided space for this growing membership.
During the 84 years of operation, the management of the organization has taken place in member homes, and various conference rooms at local churches, United Bank, and Beckley Art Center.
In more recent years, especially during COVID, the use of technology has been especially helpful to the formation of each concert season.
It has been an amazing journey for this moderate size community in southern West Virginia however, it hasn’t been surprising that so many people have been committed to bringing live music to the community.
You are an integral part of this continued journey. Contact us about how you can be more involved. If you love music join the effort and spread the word about the best-kept secret in southern West Virginia!
Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium
- Sunday, November 6, 2022, 2:30 pm - Marshall University Chamber Choir
