Message from our General Manager
|
|
Dear Residents:
The Dam and Safety Committee has had some concerns raised with them and wanted to remind everyone that no walking, no biking, and no golf carts are allowed on Lake Drive from the guard house to Old Farm Road. This rule is in place to help protect the community. We appreciate everyone following the community rules, including the speed limit.
The Woodhaven Pool is open, weather permitting, six days a week. The pool will close this year on Labor Day. Thank you, Matt, Tyler, and the staff, for helping us have another great pool season! Pool hours are 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (closed on Tuesdays). Please remember that there are no lifeguards, so you swim at your own risk. All guests must be accompanied by a property owner, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. If you have any questions, please call the Golf Shop at 304-763-3332.
The POA staff and ACC Committee wanted to take the opportunity to remind the owners that all homes are required to have house numbers. It has come to our attention that many homes currently do not have house numbers displayed. The staff and ACC Committee wanted to provide ownership time to address this issue before the staff started to address it. The current rules and regulations state that:
"Each house must display the street address (numbers) using four (4) inch numbers and colors contrasting with the background. The numbers must be visible from the street and installed before the final inspection."
It is vital that homes have house numbers so that emergency services can identify your home when you require assistance.
The Communications Committee is currently looking for new members. If you are a member in good standing and are interested in investing in the neighborhood, please reach out to the office.
Congratulations to the winners of the Member Member event, and thank you to the Golf Committee, volunteers, staff, and sponsors who made the event possible. (The event results are listed below.)
Respectfully yours,
Linda Horensavitz, PCAM
General Manager

Glade Security is organizing and managing the 2023 Urban Deer Hunt for
Glade Springs. Since this is conducted in a residential area, several strict
rules apply. For a complete list of rules and additional details, please contact
Glade Security.
Hunting is by permit only from 9-3-2023 through 12-31-2023. Hunters must register at the Glade Springs Security Department office and complete an
application to receive rules, regulations, a map of the hunt zone, and a permit
for hunting on this private property.
Glade Springs will charge an administrative fee for permits at the cost of
$20.00 dollars for each hunter.
- Hunters must possess and show a WV Hunting License.
-
The hunt is for deer only. (The bag limit is 7 deer, which may include no more than 2 antlered deer. The first deer must be antlerless.)
-
Deer are to be checked in online with DNR, and Glade Field Tag is to be filled out and turned in to Security before leaving the property!
- Only the use of a legal compound bow or crossbow is permitted.
- Only residents, members, immediate family members, and recommended guests by the POA or the Resort of Glade Springs will be permitted to apply for a permit to participate in the hunt.
-
There is NO Hunting on Sundays.
- Hunters must display their Glade Springs Permit in their vehicle or have it on their person at all times.
-
Hunting is ONLY allowed within the designated/assigned areas determined by Glade Springs.
-
Hunting on or near golf courses is NOT permitted.
- Trespassing on residential private property is forbidden!
-
Hunting is NOT permitted within 500 feet of any dwelling or roadway.
- All hunters must provide an adequate means of transportation so that killed animals may be transported completely concealed from public view.

Glade Springs Village Property Owners,
The condition of our golf courses continues to improve as the weather has finally warmed up. Please remember that all players must check in with the pro shop prior to playing. We continue to receive complaints from several members that live on the Stonehaven Golf Course that large groups are playing together and daily cart rules are not being followed. In the pictures, it not only shows our rental carts but also private carts. We will be monitoring the golf courses to improve the pace of play and enforce our course rules.
All private carts using a trail pass must have their 2023 trail pass displayed on the cart they are using when playing Stonehaven or Woodhaven.
Our GSVPOA Club Championship is August 12–13, 2023, which is our normal second weekend of August. Round one will have tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. on e $70 per player, payable at registration. There are sign-up sheets located at both the Stonehaven Starter House and the Woodhaven Pro Shop. Please come by and sign up!
The online tee time system is working, and members have the ability to book online again. Please follow these directions, and if you have any questions, please email matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com. Go to the website (gladespringspoa.com) and click on the member tee times at the top.
Click on login to sign-up.
Fill out the right-hand side information under sign-up."
Save the information, then log out and then log back in, and it will take you to the member side. If you have any questions, let me know. Important information: the username must be the email currently on file.
Please remember that all carts should be on the cart paths around tees and greens on both courses. We are still receiving complaints and images of our POA members and guests being too close to the green. Please do not drive on the opposite side of the green from where the path is located. This traffic will continue to wear areas in the rough around the greens. When you approach the green complex, please proceed to the path.
We have returned to our in-season closed days. Stonehaven will be closed on Mondays, and Woodhaven will be closed on Tuesdays. For private cart owners with a 2023 trail pass, you can go out on Stonehaven on Monday after 4 p.m. and on Woodhaven on Tuesday after 4 p.m. For those players who would like the opportunity to tee off on holes near their homes (instead of the #1 tee), please be sure to call the pro shop for availability and to let us know you will be on the golf course. We need this information for various reasons, including scheduled golf maintenance, safety, and the collection of round data, to mention just a few. It is important not to jump in front of other POA members or guests when not checking in and starting at #1.
The morning text database has been well received, and we continue to add highlights to cart rules, hours of operation, and other important information in a quick morning text. If anyone is not receiving those messages, please stop by the Stonehaven Starter House and scan the QR code to add your number to the list. For anyone that has "opted out," we as staff are not able to add you back into the database from the software; you will have to scan the barcode again to start getting the morning messages.
We still have our 2023 trail pass available for purchase. This year, the Board has approved and moved forward with the combined trail fee pass for $600.00 plus tax. This will also include one GHIN number, and additional numbers may be purchased for $34.00 plus tax. There will no longer be a separate Stonehaven and Woodhaven trail pass. The Golf Committee will be working on adding fun events throughout the summer on the Woodhaven golf course. For example, when a trail pass holder plays at Woodhaven, they have access to the fleet carts if needed. Previously, when we held mixed course events such as Member/Member or the GSVPOA Club Championship, the former Stonehaven trail pass only holder would have to pay for their cart fee(s) on the Woodhaven course. This will be included for the 2023 season.
Remember, we are offering discount passes for prepaid member cart fees and prepaid guest member green fees that include cart fees. We will have a punch card that will be sold that includes 10 fees prepaid and two free. This pass will only be valid for the 2023 season and will expire on 12/31/2023. The unused season will not rollover to the 2024 season. All passes can be purchased at the Woodhaven golf shop or the Stonehaven Starter House. During inclement weather, please call ahead for availability.
For those POA members that are interested in taking advantage of booking online, please email matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com or tyler.farley@gladespringspoa.com, and we will reset your online access and update your username and password. This will be a great opportunity, as we have recently installed our new software. The new system has many additional functions that will be integrated as we bring it online.
The bathrooms on each golf course will be opened as warmer weather permits. Players that are visiting Stonehaven will be required to park in the gravel parking area toward the #10 tee.
Directions to the parking area:
Coming from the main gate, continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive. Follow Edward Drive and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George Lane, turn left, and the parking area is straight ahead. Please call the proshop at 304-763-3332, and we will pick you up and bring you and/or your guests to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.
We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven Starter House. Do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot across from the Stonehaven 1st tee or the main Cobb parking areas. The GSVPOA golf staff will do its best to accommodate our POA members and all guests during this transition.
Please scan the available QR code at the Stonehaven Starter House or Woodhaven Pro Shop. Please answer the questions in the first text so we can update your information and edit our text database. This system will be utilized for cart rules, exciting new information, and other direct-to-member texts.

Golf Course Superintendent Update
|
|
Dear GSVPOA Members,
Golf Car Safety AND Etiquette, Golf carts made their first appearance in the late 1940s as a way for people with disabilities to play a round of golf. In the beginning, golf carts were simple in design and simple in purpose. They carried their passengers from point A to point B. Today, you will find golf carts of all shapes and sizes. No longer do you see the single-passenger 3-wheelers that were designed by the always popular manufacturer Harley Davidson. Today's modern golf cart can range from a traditional 2-seater to a stretch unit with the capability of carrying several passengers along with their gear. Golf carts can also be found with modern conveniences such as climate control and multispeaker stereo systems. These luxuries will make a trip around the links an enjoyable experience, no matter how you play. Golfing with carts has become a convenience that is enjoyed by millions of players every year. The National Golf Foundation estimates that about two-thirds of all 18-hole rounds are played with the use of a motorized golf car.
For our golf maintenance team, golf carts always present a challenge. When they are used improperly, they can cause serious damage to the course. More importantly, unsafe operations can lead to accidents and injuries.
The rules for safe operation are simple:
- Golf cars should only be operated from the driver’s side.
- Never carry more than two occupants or allow riders to ride in the back of the car.
- Be sure your passenger is fully seated and check for obstructions before moving.
- Keep your entire body, particularly your feet, inside the car when moving.
- Drive slowly through turns and drive straight and slowly up and down slopes.
- Set the brakes when coming to a complete stop.
- Use extra care when operating a golf car in reverse or on hills, wet turf, loose surfaces, or rough terrain.
- Remove the key when the golf cart is not in use.
- Never operate a golf car when impaired by alcohol or drugs.
- Golf cars do not provide protection from lightning; seek appropriate shelter if lightning is present.
Please stay aware and remember that golf car traffic can cause damage to the golf course that is both unsightly and expensive to repair. Tire ruts in soft, wet areas can take weeks to heal. Compaction caused by heavy traffic can ruin the playing surface. To help minimize the effects of golf cart traffic, we implement a daily cart rule and use staking with ropes to employ temporary restrictions due to weather or other factors.
At times of extreme conditions, a restriction such as "Path Only" will be in place if it’s necessary to protect the turf from damage. On the other hand, there are some everyday guidelines that golfers can follow to maximize their golf experience and protect the turf.
Golfers can be a big help in reducing the potential for damage to the turf from carts by simply following a few commonsense guidelines:
- Never drive a golf car through standing water or on any obviously wet turf.
- Never drive onto a green, collar, tee, or any marked hazard.
- Never drive into any area that has been recently seeded or sodded.
- Avoid abrupt stops and sharp turns that cause skidding.
- Spread out wear and tear by avoiding compacted areas.
- Watch for signs or other markers that direct traffic.
- Avoid driving over sprinkler heads and yardage markers.
- Don’t drive cars into out-of-play areas that may be environmentally sensitive (such as wildflower patches, native grass plantings, and marshes).
- Keep all four tires on the path whenever possible. Do not park with tires off the path.
- Golfers with disabilities may be allowed access to areas not normally open to golf car traffic. Their carts will be marked with a flag.
Our golf courses go through residential areas, and the paths frequently cross busy streets. To minimize the risk of an accident, please remember these three things when crossing residential roads:
- Golf cars can be hard for automobile drivers to see.
- A person in a golf car is extremely vulnerable in an accident.
- It is a golfer’s responsibility to watch for oncoming traffic.
Golf carts are here to stay and make the game of golf more enjoyable for everyone. Please be safe.
Thank you,
Patrick Murphy,
Golf Course Supernatant

Raleigh County Parks and Recreation offers lots of family fun options for summer fun.
|
|
Starting in 1959 Raleigh County started servicing the residences recreationally with the creation of Lake Stephens. Now, almost 60 years later and several more parks we continue to serve the Raleigh County residence with outdoor recreation at its best. Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority consists of 6 parks throughout the county. Our parks range in size from 2300 acres to 10 acres, and are made up of forest, lakes, and fields. Within our parks we have many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Hiking, camping, boating, fishing, softball, basketball, football, swimming, picnicking, and many playgrounds.
Lake Stephens
Lake Stephens, comprising more than 2,300 acres, has been developed around the site of an old camp established by hunters and trappers in about 1792, at the instance of Stephen English, from whom it takes its name. This land now is the home to a 272-acre pristine mountain lake that is perfect for boating, fishing, and swimming. We have a marina, concession stand, beach, Aqua Water Park, Sprinkler Splash Pad, RV and tent camping, and cabin rentals. Are you hosting an event? We also have picnic shelters available to rent as a wall at our Pavilion space. Our Pavilion is perfect for weddings and other big events. We offer a gazebo, a full kitchen, and tables and chairs.
Raleigh County Parks and Recreation and Lake Stephens announce the opening of a Disc Golf course at Lake Stephens overlook in Surveyor, WV. Lake Stephens Disc Golf course consists of an 18-hole multi-level course, designed by Ryan Shumate. The course has two tee pads per hole and alternative basket placements ready for when the course needs a fresh layout.
Lake Stephens Overlook, 1400 Lake Stephens Rd., Surveyor, WV
4H Camp
4H Raleigh County WVU Extension Office and Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority together provide an amazing camp for local youth to engage in outdoor activities. With a few week-long camping opportunities youth can play, learn, and experience southern WV.
Dry Hill Prosperity
Dry Hill Prosperity Community Park has lots of open green space, a playground, a paved walking track, a basketball court, a community building and a picnic shelter. The Community building has a full kitchen, banquet room, including tables and chairs. This park is great for casual outdoor recreation, as well as indoor and outdoor events. It is an easy drive from Beckley.
Fitzpatrick Park
Fitzpatrick Park is just around the corner. We have 4 ball fields (2 with lights), a concession stand, a paved walking track, a playground, picnic shelters, and a pond great for fishing. Are you interested in your own game or event? Our fields are available for rent!
Marsh Fork
Marsh Fork High School Memorial Park has a walking track, playground, picnic shelters, basketball courts, a fishing area, a marble ring, and bathrooms. (Bathrooms are open seasonally). This park was designed and built by the Marsh Fork High School Alumni Association for the community to remember the history of the area and enjoy it with family and friends.

Just a reminder that golf carts using our streets must
also obey the same laws that apply to vehicles within
Glade Springs Village. They are strictly limited to
25mph. Stop signs must be followed and when turning
drivers in carts without turn signals must use hand
signals. Private carts must have a valid Trail Pass to use
the cart paths on the POA golf courses. Carts not being
used for golfing are restricted to non-golfing hours.
There must be a licensed driver present in every golf cart!
