Message from our General Manager

Dear Residents:
Thank you to all the owners who participated in the member's meeting on May 30, 2023. The recording of the meeting will be provided by email as soon as our IT team has it ready.
Thank you to all four candidates who ran for the board. We appreciate having such great options for the ownership to vote on.
The election results as announced at the May 30, 2023, members' meeting are:
Nancy Kisinger & Steve Thompson
Just a reminder that golf carts using our streets must obey the same laws that apply to vehicles within Glade Springs Village. They are strictly limited to 25 mph. Stop signs must be followed, and when turning, drivers in carts without turn signals must use hand signals. Private carts must have a valid Trail Pass to use the cart paths on the POA golf courses. Carts not being used for golfing are restricted to non-golfing hours. There must be a licensed driver present in every golf cart. I've received complaints at the office that some golf carts are being driven in an unsafe manner, and we want everyone to be safe.
I've had some questions about what fishing locations are available in the POA for owners to fish at. I spoke with the Board President at the end of April and confirmed that the only place where owners are allowed to fish in the POA is at Chatham Lake. I hope this addresses any confusion on the issue.
Thank you to all the pet owners who are walking their pets on a leash and cleaning up after them; we appreciate it! I have had complaints about dog owners walking their pets without a leash. Please keep your pets on a leash at all times when they are off of your property. I have received complaints at the office about this, so I wanted to provide a gentle reminder to the owners.
Thank you to the golf committee and all the ladies who participated in the ladies' scramble in April. The golf committee has a lot of fun events scheduled for this golf season.
The Woodhaven Pool is open. The hours for the pool at Woodhaven are 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. daily, except for Tuesday, when it will be closed. Please keep in mind to bring your own food, snacks, and beverages. Please do not bring any glass bottles to the pool. If you have any questions, please call the golf shop at 304-763-3332.
The new 2023 assessment rate will go into effect on July 1, 2023. Monthly assessments will increase by 5% to $153.24 effective July 1, 2023. If you use the POA's ACH Auto Withdraw program to make your payment, the funds will be automatically removed from your bank account at the updated amount. If you make online payments through your banking service, you will need to update the amount paid with your banking establishment. To sign up for the POA's ACH Auto Debit program at no additional cost to you, simply fill out and return the enrollment form available online at POA ACH Enrollment form
The POA has volunteer opportunities with our members; if you are interested in any of the members, please contact the office for more information.
The defibrillator was stolen from the Woodhaven Fitness Center; anyone with information on the incident should contact the local police, as this is an active investigation. On May 19, 2023, the beach area was vandalized when an owner's guest chose to "do donuts" on the beach sand. We wanted to remind all of the owners that you are liable for your guests' actions and can be held accountable for the cost of any damage they cause. Please ensure that all your household guests are aware of the community rules.
Respectfully yours,
Linda Horensavitz, PCAM
General Manager

Glade Springs Village Property Owners,
The 2023 golf season is getting off to a great start. We have made it through our spring aerification on Stonehaven and Woodhaven and the courses are healing. The new pro shop merchandise is displayed and ready to go at Woodhaven! We continue to receive exciting new products for the golf shop at Woodhaven. The pro shop staff is available for special orders if you don’t see exactly what you are looking for in your size please ask. Glade Springs Village items make great gifts for other POA members!
Good news!!!! The online tee time system is now working and members have the ability to book online again. Please follow these directions and if you have any questions please email matt.felber@gladespringspoa.com.
Click on login/sign-up
Fill out the right-hand side information under "sign-up"
Save the information and then log out and then log back in and it will take you to the member side. If you have any questions let me know.
Important information - the username must be the email currently on file.
Please remember that all carts should be on the cart paths around tees and greens on both courses. We are still receiving complaints and images of our POA members and guests being too close to the green. Please do not drive on the opposite side of the green from where the path is located. This traffic will continue to wear areas in the rough around the greens. When you approach the green complex please proceed to the path.
The 2023 GSVPOA Golf Calendar is now up on the website at www.gladespringspoa.com and will be updated and subject to change throughout the season. We have several returning events and continue to add new events during the season. The GSVPOA Member/Member will be held on Saturday, July 8th and Sunday, July 9th. We will do our best to not inconvenience our POA members when booking outside events.
Now that we have opened both golf courses, we will return to our in-season closed days. Stonehaven will be closed on Mondays and Woodhaven will be closed on Tuesdays. For private cart owners with a 2023 trail pass, you can go out on Stonehaven on Monday after 4 pm and on Woodhaven Tuesday after 4 pm. As we get into our spring weather, we have a few items we would like to remind everyone to start the new season. For those players who would like the opportunity to tee off on holes near their homes (instead of the #1 tee) please be sure to call the pro shop for availability and to let us know you will be on the golf course. We need this information for various reasons including scheduled golf maintenance, safety, and collection of rounds data, to mention just a few. It is important to not jump in front of other POA members or guests when not checking in and starting at #1.
The morning text database has been well received and we continue to add highlights to cart rules, hours of operation, and other important information in a quick morning text. If anyone is not receiving those messages, please stop by the Stonehaven Starter House and scan the QR code to add your number to the list. For anyone that has “opted out” we as staff are not able to add you back into the database from the software, you will have to scan the barcode again to start getting the morning messages.
We have our 2023 trail pass available for purchase. This year the Board has approved and moved forward with the combined trial fee pass for $600.00 plus tax. This will also include one GHIN number and additional may be purchased for $34.00 plus tax. There will no longer be a separate Stonehaven and Woodhaven trail pass. The Golf Committee will be working on adding fun events throughout the summer on the Woodhaven golf course. For example, when a trail pass holder plays at Woodhaven they have access to the use of the fleet carts, if needed. Previously, when we hold mixed course events such as Member/Member or GSVPOA Club Championship, the former Stonehaven trail pass-only holder would have to pay for their cart fee(s) on the Woodhaven course. This will be included for the 2023 season.
We have a couple of new options for the upcoming golf season. We will be offering discount passes for prepaid member cart fees and prepaid guest of member green fees that include cart fees. We will have a punch card that will be sold that includes 10 fees prepaid and get two free. This pass will only be valid for the 2023 season and will expire on 12/31/2023. The unused will not roll over to the 2024 season. All passes can be purchased at the Woodhaven golf shop or the Stonehaven Starter House. During inclement weather please call ahead for availability.
For those POA members that are interested in taking advantage of booking online please email Matt Felber's Email or Tyler Farley's email and we will reset your online access and update your username and password.
This will be a great opportunity as we have recently installed our new software. The new system has many additional functions that will be integrated as we bring it online. The bathrooms on each golf course will be opened as warmer weather permits.
Players that are visiting Stonehaven will be required to park in the gravel parking area toward the #10 tee.
Directions to parking area:
Coming from the main gate continue through the clock tower and make a left on Edward Drive, follow Edward Drive, and make a left on George Lane. As you approach the end of George Lane turn left and the parking area is straight ahead. Please call the pro shop at 304-763-3332 and we will pick you up and bring you and/or guests to the Stonehaven Starter House to check in for golf and collect appropriate fees.
We will be distributing the carts for the Stonehaven Golf Course and collecting fees through the Stonehaven Starter House. Do not use the GSR Hotel parking lot across from the Stonehaven 1st tee or the main Cobb parking areas. The GSVPOA golf staff will do their best to accommodate our POA members and all guests during this transition.
Please scan the available QR code at the Stonehaven Starter House or Woodhaven Proshop. Please answer the questions in the first text so we can update your information and edit our text database. This system will be utilized for cart rules, exciting new information, and other direct-to-member texts.

Golf Course Superintendent Update
|
|
Dear GSVPOA Members,
Now that spring aerification is in the books, we begin to shift our focus to course details and really dialing in the greens in preparation for the upcoming tournament season. As for us golfers, this is the time of year when you have several rounds under your belt and begin to feel like your golf swing is "getting there", and the early season inconsistencies are now merely a memory.
As golf games begin to improve, course conditions begin to improve as well. We welcome the arrival of extended daylight hours that are followed by the warm nights of summer. These conditions jump-start the turf as our fertilizer applications start paying dividends. For the golf maintenance staff, this means all systems go, as we strive to provide the best possible pay conditions.
To achieve this, we begin to push the turf to its limit. We will start manipulating the heights of cut and moisture levels, looking to find the "sweet spot" of moisture content and firmness on the greens. We will maintain low moisture levels in our greens and other fine turf areas by hand watering to pinpoint trouble areas and watering only on an as-needed basis.
All of these practices are implemented to increase green speeds and provide a true ball roll. Achieving these firm and fast conditions is “a golfer’s dream come true”, but they do come with a cost. Turf that is stressed will become hydrophobic over time, and localized dry spots will begin to appear. Hydrophobic soils repel water; therefore, all of the hand-watering will start to lose its effectiveness. If these areas are not treated, turf damage is inevitable. So, what can we do to combat this growing problem?
First and most importantly, we must see and act proactively, not reactively. We began our first line of defense with chemical control way back in late March or early April. Applications with wetting agents and penetrants at low rates were applied early in the season to promote a uniform moisture-holding pattern and consistent growth across the surface. By doing this, the soil moisture dry-down will be slow, minimizing any potential root loss.
Our next process would be mechanical control. We will use verticutters and needle-tipped aerators to break surface tension and vent the playing surface. Therefore, allowing gas transfer and water infiltration to the root zone.
The simple answer to obtaining success throughout the summer months is to create a strong root structure in the spring. We stimulate the roots during the good growing weather so that when it heats up, we have more mass underneath. These cultural practices we will be implementing will cause little to no disruption. Allowing for great golf all summer long.
We will be hosting a Superintendent's Revenge-style tournament on Saturday, June 24th, at the Woodhaven course. Please sign up with the professional staff. Looking forward to a fun event!
