April 2021
Happy Spring!

How delightful to see the sun again! Birds are singing, and the daffodils are blooming.

As a newcomer to the area, I am frequently asked what brought me to Daniels WV, and with great pride, I'm able to reply, “Glade Springs Village Property Owners' Association!” Since I live outside of the gates, I see a different perspective on how those in our surrounding communities view our beautiful Community. When you come and go from the same place, you sometimes forget the unique qualities of this wonderful place to call home.

Spring is a time of renewal and for planting seeds for the future. It's also a time for Spring Cleaning and home and yard maintenance. This is also a good time to review our Rules and Regulations designed to improve our property values while creating harmony within the Community. Please take a few minutes to review the documents that are posted on our website for your reference. Simple tasks like putting your garbage cans away really make a difference and are an easy fix to help improve your neighborhood. Inspections are underway and our hopes are not to have to enter into a violation process but instead count on our members to take the initiative to keep Glade Springs Village beautiful!

The POA office is receiving an uptick in applications for new homes and changes to existing homes for the Architectural Control Committee (ACC) which is a great sign that your neighbors are busy with upgrades, additions, and projects on their properties. We are excited to share that we have processed nearly twenty deeds over the last thirty days indicating that our lots are selling.

We are excited about the golf season and the opening of Woodhaven and would like to take the opportunity to remind our members that the golf amenity is open to those members in good standing with the Association. If you have an ongoing violation or are not current on assessments, you are not eligible for free golf. Our team is committed to bringing the needed revenues to care for the courses, and guest play must be paid to provide the needed support to continue to improve both courses. With new staff on board this year, you may be asked for ID to validate your access until they learn names and faces. Please know we are working diligently to improve our services and activities, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Look for the upcoming dates for the Pool opening, Community Picnic, and Concert on the Greens!

Be safe, and I look forward to seeing you out in the Community!

Spring is here! March 20, 2021 was officially the first day of spring which means we are closer than ever to the start of the 2021 golf season at Glade Springs Village. As your PGA Director of Golf, I am looking forward to seeing everyone enjoying Stonehaven and Woodhaven throughout the season. For those of you that have not met me yet, there is a good chance you will be seeing me around the first tee of both Stonehaven and Woodhaven. Our starters will be verifying email addresses, phone numbers, property addresses and other information to keep our EZLinks tee sheet accurate. The opening date for Woodhaven is Thursday, April 1, 2021 and we have been busy getting the Pro Shop stocked and ready for business.

The 2021 trail passes for privately owned carts are now available for purchase by calling the Pro Shop at 304-763-3332 or through the online store on the website. Arrangements can also be made to purchase them at Woodhaven or the Stonehaven starter building by calling ahead. Please keep in mind that the trail fee sticker must be adhered to the cart for use on the golf course. Trail Passes are non-transferable between multiple carts.

This year we will also be diligent in making sure that fees are properly collected for guests on the Stonehaven and Woodhaven courses. We all need to be sure they are correct so the POA gathers the revenue to make our golf courses, POA areas and community activities the best we can offer. As always, we want to make safety a priority for our community. Knowing we have several steep changes in elevation on our paths and grassy areas - let's be careful while operating golf carts this year.

Nathan Armstrong, our course superintendent and I have been working together daily to communicate the course conditions and cart rules for the day. Frost is probably still going to be around for a little while and we hope the spring rains subside so we can get 90-degree cart travel soon. The new “scoring tees” have also been placed on Stonehaven and we are looking forward to feedback from players when they get to experience them. Do not worry we will be adding them to Woodhaven too!!

Good luck to all and let us have a great 2021 golf season!

Silver Tees
Silver Tees

It has been a pleasure to see so many of you already out on the golf course. Those fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to get out and play on the Stonehaven Golf Course already this season, may have noticed a new set of forward tees. We have added this set of “silver tees” to introduce a new dimension to the way that the golf course plays, and it allows golfers to score differently than they may normally.

I was approached by a group of our members with the thought of adding these new tees to help some of the less experienced golfers score better. Having been through a golf course renovation where adding additional forward tees was a primary goal, I knew exactly what they were asking for and a plan was put in motion.

Golf courses are designed from the tips with the excellent player in mind. They can hit the ball farther because of their experience, abilities, and faster swing speeds. The shorter tees are designed for intermediate golfers with the medium swing speeds. Many women and older players that came to the game later in life start at the forward tees and had nowhere to move after that. Most golf courses only offer women one set of tees. The Silver Tees also offer senior women a new option.

The new Silver Tees are designed in such a way that hazards are managed more easily or eliminated altogether. Immediate advantages of these tees are that golfers of all skills and abilities can have fun and enjoy the golf course at a faster pace. If we make it possible for players to have more success getting on the greens in regulation then we have the opportunity to keep them coming back to play more often and grow the game.

These forward tees can also be used profitably by even the best players. It helps them to learn better course management, improve their short game, and gain confidence in scoring low. They learn that hitting a driver isn’t always necessary. They must think about which club to use from the tee and where to land their shot to give themselves the best approach shot into the green.

We hope that you find these additional tees helpful. They are in temporary locations for this season. We will be evaluating the amount of use that they receive, to help us determine if we would like to build permanent tees and where to locate them. Matt Felber and I look forward to your feedback and hearing about how these tees have helped your golf game.

Spring Reminders from the ACC

With Spring comes warmer weather and a new building season. The Architectural Control Committee (ACC) wants to remind all Village property owners that anything that changes the look of the exterior of your home or lot requires a review and approval by the ACC. This includes all permanent and temporary constructions, additions, revisions, removal or demolition within the community, including, but not limited to, the following:

       Lot clearing
       Residential homes and additions
       Driveways

The Library Hut is in the old starter building on Stonehaven.
Any time you have an emergency that requires a call to 911, in addition to telling the operator the reason for the call and the location of the emergency, ask the operator to alert Glade Security, and a Security vehicle will meet the emergency vehicle at the gate and lead it to the site of the emergency. Also, after calling 911, you should call Glade Springs Security at (304) 763-4385 and apprise them of the situation.
AEDs
An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses possibly life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and, if necessary, delivers an electrical shock to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. Currently, there is an AED unit in two of the Glade Security vehicles. Security personnel have been trained in the use of AEDs, and have periodically been recertified. Residents who have an emergency should first call 911 and then Security at (304) 763-4385. Tell them that 911 has been called and the location from where you are calling. If the person experiencing the cardiac episode is unconscious, request that Security send a vehicle with an AED immediately. It is quite likely that they can reach the stricken person much faster than any ambulance. It should be noted that all three golf courses have been mapped with regard to the best access for an ambulance or a Glade Security vehicle.
What is Nextdoor?

Nextdoor is a website for neighborhoods that connects residents through the exchange of helpful information, goods, and services. The goal is to bring neighbors together and build connections by sharing information. Our neighborhoods are one of the most important and useful communities in our lives. One of the core principles is to communicate openly and in a constructive manner. Postings are neighbor to neighbor or neighborhood. There are separate channels for neighborhood businesses as well.

Nextdoor is structured within a framework of guidelines and rules to ensure shared information and opinions are both helpful and respectful. Community Guidelines are intended to ensure that every person feels welcome, safe, and respected when using Nextdoor.

Nextdoor is a powerful tool for sharing information about our neighborhood. Lost pets, found pets, neighborhood activities, locating services – dentists to bricklayers, and the list goes on!

Nextdoor Guidelines

Everyone should feel welcome on Nextdoor. These Guidelines were established to define the values of our community. On Nextdoor, everyone is connected by a shared connection to a place — Glade Springs Village. Please note that by default Nextdoor shares our posts and information with other ‘nearby’ Nextdoor neighborhoods. If you only want to see Glade Springs information: go to the Settings selection on Nextdoor then Nearby Neighborhoods and un-select all unwanted neighborhoods.

1. Be respectful of your neighbors
You’re speaking to your real neighbors. Strong communities are built on strong relationships.

2. Do not discriminate
Nextdoor will not tolerate racism, hateful language, or discrimination of any kind.

3. Discuss important topics in the right way
Nextdoor has policies and dedicated spaces for important non-local topics, such as national politics.

4. Promote local commerce the right way
Nextdoor has designated spaces for members and local businesses to sell products and services.

5. Use your true identity
Nextdoor is built on trust — everyone should know who they’re communicating with. Nextdoor is open to all residents of Glade Springs. To be a part of our Nextdoor Community, neighbors must reside in Glade Springs and be registered with their name. Remember these guidelines have been established by Nextdoor, not Glade Springs Village.

6. Do not engage in harmful activity
Nextdoor prohibits any activity that could harm someone with physical or verbal abuse.

Magazine.

The members of the Committee are open to new ideas for "getting the word out" about this wonderful community! We are presently meeting in the Glade Community Church on the second Wednesday of each month at 4pm. If you are interested in more information about the Committee or would like to become a member, please contact Gary Schroeder (grschroed@gmail.com) or Rick Lay (rick.lay@gladespringspoa.com).
