Open to All: Food Distribution Every Wednesday at The Glades Initiative
The Glades Initiative offers weekly food distribution to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up on Wednesdays from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

Mentors Needed to Help Students in Glades Schools, Mentor Training Session by Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children needs at least 30 new mentors in the Glades and Pahokee area to mentor students that are part of our Take Stock in Children Program. Our mentors meet with their students once a week at least three times a month via Zoom, Google Meets, or using our Mentor App. We need community members to support their students at Glades Central, Lake Shore Middle, Glades Academy, and Pahokee Middle and High School. Our mentors are the most important component of our program and through mentoring our students receive a two-year full-tuition scholarship to attend college.

PBC Medical Society Presents "Opioid Series for Physicians and Healthcare Providers"
Peter Grinspoon, M.D. is a primary care physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and a certified Health and Wellness Coach. He spent two years as an Associate Director of the Massachusetts Physician Health Service helping physicians with addiction and mental health issues. An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

PBC Animal Care & Control Waives Adoption Fees
Palm Beach County’s Public Safety Department Divisions of Animal Care and Control and Victim Services has partnered together and will be offering free pet adoptions throughout the month of April. This promotion is to raise awareness about sexual assault, the many services available to victims, and the link between animal abuse and intimate partner violence.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.

Reopening: ERA Assistance for Rent/Utility and Relocation
The U.S. Treasury Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program will be reopening on April 1, 2021. Eligible Palm Beach County residents must be a renter household in which at least one or more individuals meets all of the following criteria, including but not limited to:
• qualifies for unemployment or experienced a reduction of household income;
• incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardships due to COVID-19;
• demonstrates a risk of homelessness or housing instability; and
• has a household income at or below 80% of the area median.

PBC Youth Services Extends Summer Camp Scholarship Application Deadline
The Palm Beach County Youth Services Department has extended the parent application period for summer camp scholarships through April 16. The Summer Camp Scholarship Program offers eligible children, ages 5-14 and special populations up to age 17, a full scholarship to day camp for the entire summer. It allows parents to work with the knowledge
that their children are safe. It gives children educational and recreational opportunities for growth.

Healthcare.gov Enrollment Extended Until Aug 15
President Biden announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is
extending access to the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) until August 15 – giving
consumers additional time to take advantage of new savings through the American Rescue
Plan. New and current enrollees will have an additional three months to enroll or re-evaluate
their coverage needs with increased tax credits available to reduce premiums.
