Open to All: Food Distribution Every Wednesday at The Glades Initiative
The Glades Initiative offers weekly food distribution to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up on Wednesdays from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

Boot Camp at Glades Pioneer Park, Presented by Palm Beach County Parks and Rec
Free community-based physical activity program for the month of April. Fun, energetic class with a combination of short resistance and endurance training bursts, followed by recovery periods to give you the ultimate total body workout. Includes a large variety of upper body, leg strength, and cardio exercises. This class is for all fitness levels.

Mentors Needed to Help Students in Glades Schools, Mentor Training Session by Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children needs at least 30 new mentors in the Glades and Pahokee area to mentor students that are part of our Take Stock in Children Program. Our mentors meet with their students once a week at least three times a month via Zoom, Google Meets, or using our Mentor App. We need community members to support their students at Glades Central, Lake Shore Middle, Glades Academy, and Pahokee Middle and High School. Our mentors are the most important component of our program and through mentoring our students receive a two-year full-tuition scholarship to attend college.

Free Lacrosse Clinic at Glades Pioneer Park
Creator’s Game with Coach Suds and Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation is hosting a lacrosse clinic at Glades Pioneer Park every Saturday morning and Thursday evenings for the rest of the month and May 1st. This clinic is completely free and has a coach to come to teach them the skill and game. The coach will then select participants from the clinic to form two teams to represent the Glades to compete in a tournament completely free.

PBC Medical Society Presents "Opioid Series for Physicians and Healthcare Providers"
Peter Grinspoon, M.D. is a primary care physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and a certified Health and Wellness Coach. He spent two years as an Associate Director of the Massachusetts Physician Health Service helping physicians with addiction and mental health issues. He is the author of the memoir ‘Free Refills: A Doctor Confronts His Addiction.’ Hear more about his story in this podcast, facilitated by Palm Beach County Medical Society.

This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

The Early Learning Coalition of Palm Beach County is now in open enrollment. We are currently enrolling children in the School Readiness Program. The School Readiness program provides financial assistance to low-income families for early childhood education and child care so families can become financially self-sufficient and their young children can be successful in the future.

PediPec Daycare Serves Children with Medical Needs
PediPec is a daycare for children with medical needs. They are located in Royal Palm Beach but serve the Glades area as well, providing transportation to and from the center. It is a service that is completely covered by Medicaid and is of no charge to the families.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.
