The Glades PATCH (Planned Approach To Community Health) is a program designed to help the community evaluate, plan and implement health education and disease prevention and intervention programs. PATCH helps promote the health of the community to include social, emotional and physical well-being of its citizens. PATCH is a partnership of concerned citizens and organizations. This partnership provides a forum for identifying health problems affecting the community and mobilizing the community to plan, conduct and evaluate intervention services. The City of Belle Glade offers a number of recreational programs for area youths ages 6 to 15: Youth Basketball League, Shining Stars Cheer, and Muck City Divas Youth Dance Team. All activities are held at the Lake Shore Civic Center, where parents can register their children.

The Library of Congress has thousands of books available for donation to eligible groups. These surplus books are not needed for the Library of Congress' own use, and so members of Congress may donate them to schools, libraries, and other organizations in their district.

PBC is First in Florida to Approve Cancer Presumption Language for Firefighters

On February 5, Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay, along with her fellow County Commissioners, approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the Professional Firefighters/Paramedics of Palm Beach County, Local 2928, IAFF, Inc. Included in this agreement is cancer presumption language that entitles firefighters to on-the-job disability and supplemental long term disability benefits if they are diagnosed with cancer during the performance of their regular duties.

VITA Sites Open in the Glades - File for Free! VITA

United Way of Palm Beach County has partnered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to bring free tax preparation service to those in our community with an annual household income of $66,000 or less in 2018 and focus on those who may be eligible to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit  (EITC) of up to $6,431. Commit to Change Physical Activity Challenge

Let's Move is a Palm Beach County-wide, month-long campaign that motivates residents to take charge of their health by competing to log the most exercise minutes throughout March. Residents create and join teams, are encouraged to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, and log their minutes on www.LetsMovePBC.org. The goal: to establish and reinforce healthy behaviors like exercise and good nutrition.

The Everglades Restoration Agriculture Community Employment Training Program was created to promote education and training programs to support the training and hiring of individuals in nonagricultural employment in areas of high agricultural unemployment.

Food Research & Action Center - February 1, 2019

Food assistance for the hungry shouldn't have a time limit. Yet, the Trump Administration has proposed a rule that would take away SNAP eligibility for 755,000 unemployed and underemployed adults. That means cutting SNAP food benefits by $15 billion over 10 years. FRAC, Feeding America, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and the Center for American Progress (CAP) are coordinating a campaign to generate comments in opposition to the SNAP rules change.

For more than two decades, Hope has offered Rainbow Trails Camp to children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Each child attends the camp at no cost, to learn how to cope with the complex feelings of grief.
