Food Distribution, FREE COVID-19 Testing, and Voter Registration Education at The Glades InitiativeLAB24

The Glades Initiative offers food distribution to anyone in need every Wednesday. This week, we will also be offering FREE COVID-19 testing by Lab 24, and voter registration education (obtaining absentee ballots and more). All services open to all.

Free Drive Thru & Walk-Up COVID-19 TestingWALKUPCOVID

Florida Community Health Centers, Inc. continues to provide FREE Drive Thru/Walk-Up testing for COVID-19 (appointments are preferred). You can still be tested even if you aren't experiencing symptoms. Only two tests are administered per car.

His reporting on restoring voting rights for felons has been exceptional. Daniel was born on the outskirts of Washington D.C. to Cuban parents, and moved to Miami twenty years ago. As children are online and on social media now more than ever with the coronavirus, it is imperative that parents know and understand the dangers in order to take adequate safety precautions while their kids are online and on social media. If an online incident should occur, the presentation teaches parents how and what to report, as well as valuable resources they can use to speak to their kids and access services.

Free COVID-19 Walk-up Testing in South Bay

In light of increased COVID-19 cases in the Tri-cities area, Representative Tina Polsky (D-Boca Raton), in conjunction with CDR Maguire, GENETWORx Lab, and the City of South Bay, has organized a free COVID-19 walk-up testing site for residents over 18 years old. There is no pre-registration, no appointment, and no physician referral necessary for testing. Masks must be worn at the site and social distancing guidelines will be observed. There are a limited number of tests and testing will be conducted on a first come first served basis.

Sign up for a Free Virtual Health Workshop

LORHN is now offering all three of its health education workshops virtually. Workshops are open to adults (18+). The 'Your Health Matters' workshop helps individuals understand how to navigate the healthcare system and information about local resources available to access care and maintain good health. The other two workshops are designed specifically for Type 2 Diabetics or anyone living with any chronic condition (asthma, COPD, heart disease, anxiety, depression, etc.).
 
Individuals can sign up and will be contacted when a class begins, or, LORHN can organize a private session for a group of 8+.

Food Distributions in the GladesFOODLIST

The Glades Initiative Food Distribution Every Wednesday (Open to Everyone)

For the past year and a half, and continuing into the future, The Glades Initiative offers weekly food distribution to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come first-serve basis.

Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

School Sites Free Meal Distribution Tuesdays & Thursdays (For Ages 18 and under)

Free Meal Distribution Continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 52 school locations throughout the summer. Distribution is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Each day, parents and guardians who pick up food will receive a kit with three days' worth of meals for each child. Meals are FREE to anyone 18 years of age and younger (22 years of age and younger for ESE students), regardless of financial need. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the summer heat, beginning Tuesday, July 7, distribution times will be 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at all open feeding sites. Parents who pick up meals next week will be notified about this change.

WHEN: Tuesdays & Wednedays | 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Summer BreakSpot (For Ages 18 and under)

Palm Beach County Youth Services Department's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will transition from pre-summer feeding at eight locations to the full Summer Food Service Program feeding schedule. Beginning June 1, 43 sites throughout the county, including 16 Palm Beach County Library locations, will serve as meal distribution sites with additional sites added weekly. Parents picking up kits without their child present must bring identification for the child. Acceptable forms of identification include student ID, child's passport or other government-issued ID, birth certificate, adoption decree, immunization records, and school demographics.

Learn about SHINE and BEC Assistance for Seniors. With losing their main source of income and even employer benefits this group needs the SHINE and BEC program's help. Losing employer coverage brings the challenge of navigating Medicare or even Medicaid options. There is a small window (2 FULL MONTHS) from when someone loses employer coverage to enroll and make decisions; SHINE provides FREE and Unbiased Medicare counseling during these stressful periods.

Join Conversation About Ending HIV in PBC, Earn $30

From the Health Countil of Southeast Florida: The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has contracted with us, the Health Council, to develop a plan for Ending the HIV Epidemic, an initiative by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Central to this effort is engaging community members.

We will be seeking to engage community members willing to participate in an anonymous 30-minute key informant interview by phone. These participants will be offered a $30 gift card incentive for their time. Participants do NOT have to be HIV positive. Our target audience is the LGBTQ+, African American, and Spanish speaking populations.

Demonstration Shows How Quickly Cars Heat Up

Did you know that since 1998, nearly 850 children have died in hot cars, including 13 children in Florida in just the last three years? The temperature inside a car can reach 125 degrees in just a matter of minutes and a young child's body heats up three to five times faster than an adult's body. Eighty-eight percent of all vehicular heatstroke deaths involve children under the age of 4.
