COVID-19 Vaccination Bus and Food Distribution at The Glades Initiative (All services provided free of charge)

The Glades Initiative offers food distribution at its new location to anyone in need. This week, we will also be offering FREE COVID-19 vaccinations by the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. Those vaccinated also receive a $10 voucher for grocery shopping courtesy of the Florida Department of Health.

Health Care District Offers Free COVID-19 Vaccinations, $10 Grocery Voucher with Shot Through July

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County continues to offer free, walk-up COVID-19 mobile clinic vaccinations. It’s easy and convenient for families and children as young as 12 years old. Those vaccinated at the locations listed below can receive a $10 voucher for grocery shopping courtesy of the Florida Department of Health. Individuals 12 to 17 years of age must be with a parent or a guardian to be vaccinated.

United Way PBC Tax Experts Assisting Families in Registering for the Child Tax Credit

Starting on July 26th, United Way of Palm Beach County volunteer tax experts will be co-located in each of the Community Services Department locations throughout the county to assist families in registering for the Child Tax Credit for a total of two weeks including two Saturdays. One tax preparer will be located at each of the office locations.

Back to School Sales Tax Holiday is from Saturday, July 31 through Monday, August 9. During this time, parents can take advantage of no sales tax on certain type of items such as clothing, school supplies and computers.

Artist Innovation Fellowship Program Presentation at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center

The Palm Beach County Cultural Council will be holding a workshop for their Artist Innovation Fellowship Program at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center. This program celebrates the artistic process and supports professional artists in all artistic disciplines with funding to pursue new avenues of creativity, expand upon current work, and other endeavors to propel his/her career forward. There is funding for 6 $7,500 fellowships available in 2022.

The Glades Initiative's Food Distribution at Our New Office Location (One Block South of Previous Office)

The Glades Initiative offers food distribution at its new location to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up as usual beside the office at 149 SE Avenue D for drive-through pick-up on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Palm Beach County Food Finder Map

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

Health Officials Issue Blue-Green Algae Bloom Alert for Multiple Lake Okeechobee Locations

The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins in Lake Okeechobee water bodies. This is in response to surface water samples taken on July 21th, 2021. The public should exercise caution in and around these areas. This is a recreational surface water alert, drinking water is not affected.

Emergency Broadband Benefit

You or your clients may be eligible for up to $50/month toward your Internet service. The Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) is a temporary subsidy program from the Federal Government designed to help low-income households connect to the Internet and stay connected during the COVID-19 crisis. Qualified households can receive a temporary monthly credit of up to $50/month (up to $75/month for customers in Tribal lands) toward their Internet service and leased Internet equipment until the program's funding runs out.

Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Aug 2021 Educational Calendar

HMHB Educational Classes Continue Virtually. In doing our part to keep the community healthy and safe. Small Steps Great Parents workshops for pregnant women and new families. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies provides free hands-on education programs for parents and their support partners through our Small Steps Great Parents program. Classes are taught by trained and/or certified Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies staff, as well as community partners throughout Palm Beach County.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.

Mentors Needed in the Glades and Pahokee Area

Take Stock in Children is recruiting caring individuals who want to make a difference in a child's life. They need strong role models to support their male and female students at a local middle or high school. Every student who receives a mentor and fulfills the program's requirements will receive a two-year full tuition college scholarship.

Online Portal Reopens for Emergency Rental Assistance

The Palm Beach County Community Services Department (CSD) will open its online portal for Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) beginning March 10th. Eligible Palm Beach County residents must be a renter household in which at least one or more individuals meets all of the following criteria: qualifies for unemployment or experienced a reduction of household income; incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardships due to COVID-19; demonstrates a risk of homelessness or housing instability; and has a household income at or below 80% of the area median.

Rental Assistance Available for Undocumented Households Impacted by COVID-19

The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County has expanded its Rapid Response Eviction Assistance Program to assist undocumented households impacted by COVID-19. This program will provide legal representation and rental assistance to undocumented tenant households that have experienced loss of income, reduction in hours, or unemployment as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
