Open to All: Food Distribution Every Wednesday at The Glades Initiative
For the past year and a half, and continuing into the future, The Glades Initiative offers weekly food distribution to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come first-serve basis.
Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

His reporting on restoring voting rights for felons has been exceptional. Daniel was born on the outskirts of Washington D.C. to Cuban parents, and moved to Miami twenty years ago. Dan will discuss voting rights in South Florida from restoring voting rights for felons to voting obstacles in Miami, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

School Sites Free Meal Distribution Tuesdays & Wednesdays (For Ages 18 and under)
Free Meal Distribution Continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 52 school locations throughout the summer. Distribution is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Each day, parents and guardians who pick up food will receive a kit with three days' worth of meals for each child. Meals are FREE to anyone 18 years of age and younger (22 years of age and younger for ESE students), regardless of financial need. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the summer heat, beginning Tuesday, July 7, distribution times will be 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at all open feeding sites. Parents who pick up meals next week will be notified about this change.

Summer BreakSpot (For Ages 18 and under)
Palm Beach County Youth Services Department's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will transition from pre-summer feeding at eight locations to the full Summer Food Service Program feeding schedule. Beginning June 1, 43 sites throughout the county, including 16 Palm Beach County Library locations, will serve as meal distribution sites with additional sites added weekly. Parents picking up kits without their child present must bring identification for the child. Acceptable forms of identification include student ID, child's passport or other government-issued ID, birth certificate, adoption decree, immunization records, and school demographics.

Join Conversation About Ending HIV in PBC, Earn $30
From the Health Countil of Southeast Florida: The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has contracted with us, the Health Council, to develop a plan for Ending the HIV Epidemic, an initiative by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Central to this effort is engaging community members.
We will be seeking to engage community members willing to participate in an anonymous 30-minute key informant interview by phone. These participants will be offered a $30 gift card incentive for their time. Participants do NOT have to be HIV positive. Our target audience is the LGBTQ+, African American, and Spanish speaking populations.

Water Dept. Announces Temporary Modification to Water Disinfection Process
From the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD): In order to maintain compliance with regulatory water quality requirements in the water distribution system, the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) will temporarily modify its water disinfection process between Wednesday, July 8 and Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

Demonstration Shows How Quickly Cars Heat Up
Did you know that since 1998, nearly 850 children have died in hot cars, including 13 children in Florida in just the last three years? The temperature inside a car can reach 125 degrees in just a matter of minutes and a young child's body heats up three to five times faster than an adult's body. Eighty-eight percent of all vehicular heatstroke deaths involve children under the age of 4.

Tree of Life Food Distribution & Resource Center
Tree of Life will continue its drive thru community food distribution at the Palm Beach Outlets. It also recently established a resource center stocked with non-perishable food, toiletries, etc. for those in need. If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.

PBC Youth Services Offering Free Race-Based Implicit Bias and Migroaggressions Training
Presenter Danniella Jones, Psy.D. will define race-based implicit bias and microaggressions while exploring their impact on youth, families, and those who work with youth. Participants will learn strategies for increasing individual awareness of implicit bias as well as treating and responding appropriately to those impacted.

PBC Emergency Order Requires Masks
Palm Beach County Emergency Order 2020-012 has been issued requiring face coverings in Palm Beach County. This order applies in all incorporated and unincorporated areas of Palm Beach County. Facial coverings must be worn by all persons, other than those specifically exempted, while obtaining any good or service or otherwise visiting or working in any business or establishment, including entering, exiting, and otherwise moving around within the establishment. Facial coverings must be worn by all persons in public places where social distancing in accordance with CDC guidelines is not possible or not being practiced.

Poll Workers Needed - Sign Up Today
The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office needs Poll Workers for the upcoming August 18th, and November 3, 2020, elections. It takes 4,000 poll workers to staff over 400 Election Day polling locations and phone banks. Voters who can work the polls in August can sign up online by June 30th or shortly thereafter.

From the NAACP: The NAACP Florida State Conference is working to re-organize all three inactive branches in Palm Beach County. Previously, there was a South Palm Beach County Branch, West Palm Beach Branch and Glades Area Branch. To officially re-organize each branch, we need to secure a total of 50 new memberships for each Branch.
