The Glades Initiative has Moved! (Services Offered at New Location Just One Block South of Previous Office)
The Glades Initiative has moved! Our organization is now serving clients at our new site, located just one street south of our former address. This Wednesday's food distribution will be at the previous location, 141 SE Avenue C. Our regular Wednesday food distribution is cancelled for July 7 and will reopen in our new location July 14.

Borrowing Basics Financial Literacy Session presented by The Glades Initiative
The Glades Initiative presents Money Smart, designed to provide you with information to strengthen your financial literacy. These sessions will focus on options for borrowing money, what it costs, and much more. Masks are required– gift cards for participants who complete the session with all requested information.

Food Distribution This Wednesday at The Glades Initiative (Cancelled Next Week, July 7)
The Glades Initiative offers food distribution this week to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up as usual beside the office at 141 SE Avenue C for drive-through pick-up on Wednesday from 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.
(Please note there will be no food distribution on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. We will resume Wednesday food distribution on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the new location, 149 SE Avenue D - one block south of previous location.)

Health Care District Offers Free, Walk-up COVID-19 Vaccinations on Tuesdays in Belle Glade
Getting vaccinated is quick, easy and free! The Health Care District of Palm Beach County encourages those 12 years and older to receive the COVID-19 vaccine this summer. Stop by from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday through the first week of August – except July 6th when the site is closed. Those who are vaccinated here can receive a $10 gift voucher for grocery shopping! 12 to 17 year-olds must be with a parent or guardian. Look for the Health Care District’s big blue bus!

Mentors Needed in the Glades and Pahokee Area
Take Stock in Children is recruiting caring individuals who want to make a difference in a child's life. They need strong role models to support their male and female students at a local middle or high school. Every student who receives a mentor and fulfills the program's requirements will receive a two-year full tuition college scholarship.

This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Canine Influenza in the Community: How to Protect Your Pet
Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, a division of the Public Safety Department, wants to remind pet owners about the importance of keeping pets current on vaccinations and helping to stop the spread of contagious diseases. A private animal shelter within the community has an active outbreak of canine influenza in their dog population. Six reported cases of the virus are also reported in privately owned dogs within Palm Beach County.

South Bay Head Start/Early Head Start Center Year-round Programs
The South Bay Head Start/Early Head Start Center have year-round programs. The center provides services for pregnant mothers to children five years old. The center is currently recruiting for these programs for the 2021-2022 School Year.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.
