The Glades Initiative's Food Pantry is available to anyone in need. Residents may come in once per week at any time during the hours listed below. In a “Pantry of Choice”, you choose the foods that you want and need (within guidelines).


Required to participate:

• Valid ID or your Glades Initiative Food Pantry ID

• ONE time per week


WHEN: Tuesdays and Wednesdays

  • 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Tuesday)
  • 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Wednesday)

Auditions for Rapunzel at the Dolly Hand


Missoula Children’s Theatre is back at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center from June 12th to June 16th with RAPUNZEL! We encourage students from the Glades schools ages 5 to 18 to audition for a role in the show. Auditions are on June 12th at 10 AM at the Dolly Hand, located in Palm Beach State College in Belle Glade. This is a week-long commitment as there will be rehearsals every day leading up to the show on June 16th. Those that get a role on audition day, will stay 2 hours for the first rehearsal.

Brain Health Informational Session


JEM Research Institute is proud to be hosting a brain health informational session on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the West County Senior Center. This special event is for everyone in the Glades community, including leaders and caregivers. If anyone is curious about their brain health, curious to know what Alzheimer's Disease really is, and what resources are available to them and their loved ones, JEM will be there to answer your questions. Light refreshments will also be provided!

PBC Library System Partners with School District to Serve Free Summer Lunches & Snacks for Kids


The Palm Beach County Library System is serving free nutritious lunches and snacks to children during the summer, in partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County. This service will be available beginning Tue, May 30 through Fri, Jul 28, excluding holidays and weekends at all branch locations. All children are welcome, ages 18 and younger.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

When an IRS Letter Arrives, Taxpayers Don't Need to Panic, but They do Need to Read It

Getting a letter from the IRS can make some taxpayers nervous – but there’s no need to panic. Taxpayers should understand they need to read the notice and take any appropriate action listed.

Over Capacity Shelter is Offering 50% off Adoption Fees


Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety’s Division of Animal Care and Control (PBCACC) needs the communities' help to adopt or foster as the number of pets in its care has risen to over 300. PBCACC’s team of staff and volunteers are working overtime to ensure the best quality care, but they do not have enough space. With only 144 kennels and 200 dogs, two dogs are being placed in a single kennel.

Health Officials Issue Blue-Green Algae Bloom Alert for Two Lake Okeechobee Locations


The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins in the Lake Okeechobee S352 (Lakeside) and S354 (rim canal side) water bodies. This is in response to water samples taken on May 31st, 2023. The public should exercise caution in and around these areas. This is a recreational surface water alert, drinking water is not affected.

Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies June 2023 Educational Calendar


Educational classes are for pregnant women and new families. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies provides free hands-on education programs for parents and support partners. The class instructors are community partners or certified Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies staff.

Up to $12,000 Available to Eligible Veterans, Spouses for Job Training from CareerSource Palm Beach County


In observing Memorial Day, CareerSource Palm Beach County is offering up to $12,000 for occupational training to eligible veterans and military spouses seeking employment through their Careers for Veterans Grant program. The program pays for licenses, degrees, and certifications to help veterans and their spouses gain credentials for many in-demand careers. More than 400 credentials are available. The program also provides supportive

services to cover the cost of books, licensing fees, and even childcare.

In Need of Masks? Contact The Glades Initiative, Inc.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last. 

If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.
