The Glades Initiative's Food Pantry is available to anyone in need. Residents may come in once per week at any time during the hours listed below. In a “Pantry of Choice”, you choose the foods that you want and need (within guidelines).

Taxes Filed Free Program through United Way of PBC
United Way of Palm Beach County has partnered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide free, confidential, and secure preparation and efiling of tax returns to qualified taxpayers. To qualify, taxpayer’s income must have been $70,000 or less in 2022. You may be eligible for up to $6,935 in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC). Taxes Filed Free service gives you two options to choose from to e-file your tax return. All options are supported by IRS-Certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

PBC to Offer Free Disaster Preparedness and Response Training for Teens
The Palm Beach County Public Safety Department’s Division of Emergency Management announces that registration is open for Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training for youth aged 13 to 17. The class will be hosted at the Palm Beach State College Lake Worth campus on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., from March 18 through April 29, 2023. Teen CERT is funded through federal grants, so there is no cost to participants.

Clerk Report: Waiving Agency Collection Fees
From March 13 to 17 we will waive the 25 percent collection agency fee on unpaid traffic tickets and overdue court fines for anyone who pays them in full, giving people whose driver licenses have been suspended because of unpaid fines the opportunity to save money and restore their driving privileges.

PBC Animal Care and Control Waiving Adoption Fees
Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety’s Division of Animal Care and Control (ACC) is waiving adoption fees for the months of March and April to encourage the community to adopt and not shop for their furry friend. ACC will be accepting monetary donations for those animals that have not found their forever home yet. Adopters are able to choose whether their donation goes towards ACC’s Enrichment, Feline Care, Volunteer, or Rescue/Foster Program.

Volunteers Needed to Put up New Student-Created Posters
Eight more amazing posters are plastering PBC School District buses after our recent poster contest. Designed by students K-12th grade these messages are creative, colorful, and pack a preventative punch. Every day tens of thousands of students will see these positive drug prevention messages. We need MORE VOLUNTEERS to get sweaty pulling down the old and putting up the new posters.

Summer Camp Scholarship Program for PBC Residents
The Summer Camp Scholarship Program provides full-tuition and fees for summer camp for children residing in families with income at or below 150% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. It allows parents to work with the knowledge that their children are safe. It gives children educational and recreational opportunities for growth. Parents may choose from participating camps in Palm Beach County.

AWE Scholarship Opportunity for Students
The Alliance of Women Executives (AWE) is a Palm Beach County member-based nonprofit whose sole mission is to raise money to award academic scholarships to local students. Scholarships are $1500 and are designed for young women graduating from any PBC high school and continuing their education at FAU, Lynn University, PBA or PBSC. To date, 79 scholarships have been awarded and will offer 25 scholarships to the Class of 2023.

In Need of Masks? Contact The Glades Initiative, Inc.
If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.
If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.
