Cooking Matters Nutrition Education Program Coordinator (part-time)
Do you enjoy teaching adults and children about how to eat healthy and shop on a budget? We're looking for someone with education and/or experience in the area of nutrition. This part-time position is 10-20 hours a week. If you are interested, be sure to email your resume and cover letter in an email- titled Nutrition Education to jobs@gladesinitiative.org

Open to All: Food Distribution Every Wednesday at The Glades Initiative

The Glades Initiative offers weekly food distribution to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up on Wednesdays from 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

Mortgage Assistance Available to Homeowners in PBC

Up to 6 months of assistance (not to exceed $10,000) will be provided to income-eligible households who are at least one month delinquent (after February 29, 2020) in their home mortgage, escrow payments (PITI) and/or condominium and homeowners’ association payments.

In Need of Masks? Contact The Glades Initiative, Inc.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last. 

If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.

Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation is extending the Free Boot camp class for May at the Glades Pioneer Park! For the month of May, we are hosting a Boot camp class series every Monday and Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the Glades Pioneer Park. No pre-registration required, and open to the public ages 18 +. Health Officials Issue Blue-Green Algae Bloom Alert for Pahokee Marina

The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins in Lake Okeechobee near the Pahokee Marina located in the City of Pahokee, Florida. This is in response to a water sample taken on 4-26-2021.

Atrinity Health Center Now Carrying COVID-19 Vaccine

Atrinity Health Center has the COVID 19 Vaccine, Moderna. This vaccine requires a second dosage 28 days from the first one. Patients interested must call to schedule an appointment. The vaccine will be in stock beginning Monday, April 26, 2021.

PBC Office of Equal Opportunity RFP - Handicap Accessibility Awareness Grant Program

Handicap Accessibility and Awareness Grant Program will improve accessibility and increase awareness for the approximately 99,000 disabled persons living in Palm Beach County. $30,000 is proposed to be slated for funding. The grant program will enable any non-profit (501) (c)(3) status agency within Palm Beach County, that provides service to persons with disabilities, to apply for funding to improve accessibility and equal opportunity and/or increase public awareness for persons with disabilities.
