The Glades Initiative's Food Pantry is available to anyone in need. Residents may come in once per week at any time during the hours listed below. In a “Pantry of Choice”, you choose the foods that you want and need (within guidelines).
Required to participate:
• Valid ID or your Glades Initiative Food Pantry ID
• ONE time per week

- 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Tuesday)

Countywide Community Revitalization Team Meeting In-Person and Virtual
Join the Countywide Community Revitalization Team (CCRT) meeting hosted by the Office of Community Revitalization (OCR) on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held both virtually and in person at the Vista Center Hearing Room 1E-60, 2300 N Jog Rd., in West Palm Beach. The virtual meeting can be accessed through the link below or via conference call. CCRT members and OCR staff will provide updates on projects currently underway and/or planned to address community needs.

Back to School PBC Event - Last Day to Register is May 15 - Register Today!
The registration deadline for this year's Back To School PBC! event is rapidly approaching. The registration deadline is Monday, May 15, 2023, by 5:00 PM. During the event, registered students will receive free backpacks, school supplies, books, socks, dental goodie bags, soaps, health checks, haircuts, and other community resources. Entertainment and free meals for participating students will be also provided.

NEW: ParentChild+ School Readiness Program
The ParentChild+ program is an early literacy, school readiness home visiting program. ParentChild+ supports the parent in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher. The high-quality educational books and toys provided are free gifts to the families and by the time they complete the program, they will have received a library of up to 23 books and 23 toys.

Community Foundation Scholarship Opens April 26
The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties will begin accepting applications for its annual scholarship program on April 26. More than $1.3 million is available for promising high school students who plan to enroll in college in 2023 and the average award for each scholarship winner is expected to be $10,000 this year.

PBC Makes $1 Million Available for HOME Investments Partnerships
On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, Palm Beach County Department of Housing and Economic Development (HED) will make available $1,000,000 from the federal HOME Investments Partnership Program (HOME) through Request for Proposals (RFP) HED.2023.3. These funds will serve as the Local Government Area of Opportunity (LGAOF) contribution for a rental housing project seeking funding through the Florida Housing Finance Corporation’s (FHFC) 9% Housing Credits Program RFA 2023-202.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

Health Officials Issue Blue-Green Algae Bloom Alert for Lake Okeechobee
The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins in the Lake Okeechobee S352 (Lakeside) water body. This is in response to water samples taken on May 3rd, 2023. The public should exercise caution in and around these areas. This is a recreational surface water alert, drinking water is not affected.

GRANT OPPORTUNITY: Palm Beach Flagler Rotary Foundation Grant

Over 100 Affordable Housing Units Approved in Palm Beach County
At the April 18, 2023 Board of County Commissioner’s Meeting, $26M of Multifamily
Housing Revenue Bonds were approved for two projects. Coleman Park Renaissance, to be located on scattered sites in the City of West Palm Beach, will consist of 43 newly constructed affordable units of which 100% will be rented to individuals and families with household incomes that do not exceed 60% of the area median income ($55,200 for a family of four). The total project cost of $19M is expected to include $12M of Housing Finance Authority Multifamily Housing Revenue Bonds.

In Need of Masks? Contact The Glades Initiative, Inc.
If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.
If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.
