This is an opportunity to invite the community at-large to hear about the updates on the Healthier Glades project. Barbara Cheives will facilitate the evening, and subcommittee members will provide an update at the meeting. We have also planned an interactive exercise which will help to identify existing supports and assets for behavioral health and gaps or challenge AND help to move the Glades communities closer to a definition for behavioral health.

GTACNovember GTAC Meeting at Pahokee Marina

At this month's Glades Technical Advisory Committee meeting, we are pleased to welcome as our featured speaker Chief Deputy Michael E. Gauger, MSW. He serves as the Senior Executive Staff Officer for the Department of Law Enforcement Operations and Corrections. As Chief Deputy, he is responsible for an annual budget of $594 million, with a staff composition of 1,576 sworn and 1,550 non-sworn personnel; and a Corrections budget of $154 million, with a staff of 619 sworn personnel and 289 non-sworn personnel.  We encourage all interested residents and organizational representatives to attend this month's GTAC meeting.

Driver Education Course in American Sign Language

Our Deaf Services Program is pleased to offer an Adult Driver Education course presented in American Sign Language (ASL) for the deaf and hard of hearing. The course runs for eight weeks, beginning Nov. 15, and will be held in West Palm Beach. The course is free, but registration is required.

The Archaeology of Everglades Tree Islands, a Presentation by PBC Historic Preservation

During this presentation, by Palm Beach County Historic Preservation Research Intern Jessica Baker, we will be exploring the archaeology of Everglades tree islands through time, with particular focus on the genesis and prehistoric occupation of this network of islands, which spans ~12,000 square miles of wetlands. Everglades tree islands have potentially been inhabited since the formation of Lake Okeechobee, and throughout this presentation, light will be shed on the material culture that was left behind on this vast network of islands.

VITA Program Volunteers Needed

Help working families succeed by joining the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The program provides free tax-preparation service for individuals and/or households with low to moderate incomes.  Join the team today. Jobs include greeters, tax preparers, and site coordinators. LEW Museum Presents Three Programs

The Lawrence E. Will Museum in Belle Glade invites residents and visitors to stop by the museum this summer to enjoy three programs on display:  Expedition Ice Age, Donald Neal: A Plethora of Styles, and  People of the Water. 

For the remainder of the month of December we will frequently be out of the office on Friday's and Saturdays. If you intend to visit us on one of those days, please call first:
