The Glades Initiative Food Distribution is Changing!

We hope that the flexibility of our new “Pantry of Choice” hours helps us to serve you better. You may come to shop in the pantry once per week at any time during open hours. In a “Pantry of Choice”, you choose the foods that you want and need (within guidelines)! Food will no longer be distributed outside.

Required to participate:
• Valid ID or your Glades Initiative Food Pantry ID 
• ONE time per week

Take Stock in Children Seeks Volunteers, Training Session Available

Take Stock in Children is seeking volunteer mentors. We need mentors to begin mentoring new students in January 2022 or earlier. We have a school-based mentoring program that allows mentors to meet their mentees during their student's lunch period at their school or meet virtually.  Time commitment is minimal, but the impact is significant.

New Birth Deliverance Reopens Food Pantry

New Birth Deliverance will reopen their pantry, under the new name, New Birth Deliverance (DBA) Edward Sims Pantry, October 28, 2021. Pantry will be open on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, from noon to 2 p.m.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

Hygiene Items Needed for 2021 Holiday Gift Bags

From Lighthouse Cafe: "If you or someone you know is looking for a way to make a difference and give back this holiday season, we requesting donations of hygiene items for our holiday gift bags. Our goal is to give out 200 bags containing one of each of the items below. We are requesting all donations to be dropped off or picked up by December 15th. Community Action Advisory Board Seeks to Fill Low-Income Seat Vacancy

The Palm Beach County Community Action Agency’s (CAA) mission is to collaborate with other organizations to remove barriers and create opportunities for low- income individuals and families that will enable them to become more self-sufficient. CAA’s Advisory Board currently has a vacancy for the Tri-City Glades area Low-Income Seat and is inviting organizations in that area that serve low-income residents to nominate a representative.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last. 

If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.

Supervisor of Elections Provides Updates on Special Primary Election for US House of Rep, District 20

"Congressional District 20 includes portions of Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Registered voters living in Pahokee, Belle Glade, South Bay, Loxahatchee Groves, Haverhill, Mangonia Park, Glen Ridge, Cloud Lake, Lake Park, Riviera Beach, parts of Royal Palm Beach, and parts of West Palm Beach are eligible to cast their ballot in the upcoming Special Primary Election. There are over 97,000 voters in Palm Beach County eligible to cast a ballot in the primary election."

Nonprofits First Rising Leaders Program - Apply Today

Rising Leaders is focused on skills needed by those who are relatively new to leading teams or managing groups of individuals. The program includes self-knowledge, leadership, and motivational elements along with discussions with community leaders, small and large group exercises, and stimulating activities. Rising Leaders includes 8 full-day sessions, bookended by a beginning orientation and a concluding 2-day retreat. Participants also complete a service-learning project. Apply by Nov. 12th.
