The Glades Initiative Honored for its Role in War on Hunger

The Glades Initiative was honored to be one of the organizations honored October 2, 2018 at the Hats Off Nonprofit Awards  at the Harriet Himmel Theatre in West Palm Beach. The Glades Initiative was recognized for our part in the  War on Hunger collaborative. 

Our group received a 2018  Community Collaborators Award for hand-delivering 3,864,168 Snacks In 214,676 "White Boxes" to an estimated 215,000 Palm Beach County residents struggling with poverty and hunger within a two-month time span.

The War on Hunger Collaborative was spearheaded by Living Hungry, and implemented in partnership with Palm Beach County Offi ce of Community Revitalization; Farm Share; the South Florida Hunger Coalition, The Glades Initiative, Erica Whitfield (School District of Palm Beach County Board member); Sysco Southeast Florida; PBC School District and School Food Service; Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office; Nonprofits First; Restoration Bridge; Daughters of the American Revolution; The Palm Beach Post; Cox Media; The Girl Scouts of South Florida; ARC of the Glades and 100's of partners from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors with sponsor support by the Everglades Trust.

This is the time for Glades residents to come together and share their thoughts and ideas about some of the changes they want to see in the community and how these changes can improve the quality of life for all Glades residents.

The Glades PATCH (Planned Approach To Community Health) is a program designed to help the community evaluate, plan and implement health education and disease prevention and intervention programs. PATCH helps promote the health of the community to include social, emotional and physical well-being of its citizens. PATCH is a partnership of concerned citizens and organizations. This partnership provides a forum for identifying health problems affecting the community and mobilizing the community to plan, conduct and evaluate intervention services. 2nd Annual Community Wide Health and Wellness Festival

Palm Beach County HIV CARE Council announce that the 2nd Annual Community Wide Health and Wellness Festival will be held at The Loading Ramp in Belle Glade. 

We invite you to join us in making a difference and supporting this initiative by completing the Vendor/Exhibitor Registration Form and send it back by Oct 30th 2018. On The Table: Share a Meal and Discuss Meaningful Ideas to Strengthen Our Community on Oct. 24

The Glades Initiative is part of the Steering Committee for On the Table, a national initiative designed to unite people of all ages and diverse backgrounds over mealtime conversations .
The Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin County is sponsoring the initiative throughout Palm Beach and Martin County with funding by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation .
 
We are looking for local Glades organizations and people interested in hosting a conversation on October 24, 2018.  Materials are available to assist you in facilitating your own conversation. The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has invited residents throughout the region to join On the Table, s hare a meal , get together for coffee and discuss meaningful ideas to strengthen your communit y. The mealtime conversations are structured to discuss issues that affect residents and grew out of a pilot program that was held last year.  Every voice matters and this is a wonderful opportunity to talk about what matters. Taking part is simple, whether over a meal or coffee break, hosting is easy.
