Medical Interpreter Training Offered by The Glades Initiative
This is a 40-hour basic training for bilingual individuals interested in medical or community interpreting. Participants must attend all 5 days to complete the course. Topics covered: Consecutive Interpretation; Specialized Terminology, such as Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology; Common Medical Problems; Code of Ethics; Multicultural Awareness; Interpreter Skill Development.

The Glades Initiative's Food Distribution
The Glades Initiative offers food distribution to anyone. Those coming in cars are asked to line up as usual beside the office at 149 SE Avenue D for drive-through pick-up on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come-first-serve basis.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

Rental Assistance Available for Undocumented Households Impacted by COVID-19
The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County has expanded its Rapid Response Eviction Assistance Program to assist undocumented households impacted by COVID-19. This program will provide legal representation and rental assistance to undocumented tenant households that have experienced loss of income, reduction in hours, or unemployment as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eligibility:
-Must not be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
-Must reside in Palm Beach County
-Applicant must be a renter (mortgage assistance not available)
-3-day notice, demand for rent, evictions complaint/summons, documentation impending eviction or homelessness
-Proof of COVID related financial hardship

In Need of Masks? Contact The Glades Initiative, Inc.
If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.
If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.

Health Officials Issue Blue-Green Algae Bloom Alert for Multiple Lake Okeechobee Locations
The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins in the Lake Okeechobee PALMOUT3, CLV10A, and LZ40 water bodies. This is in response to surface water samples taken on August 25th, 2021. The public should exercise caution in and around these areas.
