Planned Approach To Community Health (P.A.T.C.H.)

The Glades PATCH is a program designed to help the community evaluate, plan and implement health education and disease prevention and intervention programs. PATCH helps promote the health of the community to include social, emotional and physical well-being of its citizens. PATCH is a partnership of concerned citizens and organizations. This partnership provides a forum for identifying health problems affecting the community and mobilizing the community to plan, conduct and evaluate intervention services.

Full-time Year-Long Interns Available for Palm Beach County Nonprofits

A new program of the United Methodist Church is offering full-time year-long interns to nonprofits in Palm Beach County starting September 1 through the beginning of August next year. The nonprofit must provide; -a job description to cover 35 to 40 hours per week -A designated supervisor and weekly check in meetings from each will be back between intern in organization -The nonprofit contributes $14,000 over the year -Open communication with the program's director -The United Methodist Church program provides the interns, all HR, personal stipend, housing, utilities, groceries, transportation expenses, three retreats during the year, monthly house visits and occasional book studies.
-The nonprofit is free to hire an intern after the year is over
The Methodist program is planning on to two house locations; one near Lake Okeechobee between Canal Point and Belle Glade and the other East of the turnpike between Lake Worth and Boynton Beach.
Currently there are six candidates interested in internship positions. These are hard-working, "change the world" kinds of young adults with varying skills and abilities.

4th Annual Community Spirit Awards Luncheon

NLAP Newsletter:  Federal Labor Law Posting Update Effective August 1, 2016

Effective August 1, 2016, employers must post new Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA) postings. The Department of Labor (DOL) has removed penalty amounts from the posters and has added a section about the rights of nursing mothers to the FLSA poster. Employers are required to post the revised versions of these federal posters.

Families First of Palm Beach County Accepting Applications for the Betty Bell Scholarship

Families First of Palm Beach County is currently accepting applications for the Betty Bell Scholarship.  This scholarship is awarded to an individual who is currently enrolled in a Masters of Social Work program in an accredited university in Florida.  The individual must have a history of and currently maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have intentions of seeking employment in Palm Beach County.  The scholarship winner is selected by the Board of Directors and will be given at the Annual Children's Day Luncheon which will be held on October 7th of this year. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 24.

This in-service mission serves to heighten awareness around PrEP among local residents who are at high risk for HIV exposure. The goal is to bring Healthcare Providers on board in promoting this new style of HIV prevention method.
 
What is PrEP?   PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS is a new prevention method in which people who do not have the HIV infection take one pill daily to reduce their risk of becoming infected.
