Adoption News
This month the organization Adoption Resources China "ARC" celebrated its 3rd Anniversay with a family party in Shanghai on May 20th. Gongzhan Wu, VP & Managing Director of Gladney's China Adoption Program was in China during this month and able to join. Gongzhan himself is from Shanghai, and through the years has worked with US expatriate families to assist with China - US intercountry adoption procedures.

Gongzhan was pleased to be present to wish the founder of ARC, Dr. Mai Xiong best wishes as she returns to the USA this summer. Mai has accompanied Gongzhan on several Superkids China trips in recent years, assisting with medical and developmental screenings for adoptable children.

ARC provides education and support to adoptive families in Shanghai. Through fundraising and volunteer services, ARC members also support local organizations providing medical services to children in the care of social welfare institutes throughout China.

ARC brings together a community of foster and adoptive parents. It has been our pleasure to assist with home study and adoption placement services. If you are an expatriate living in China seeking further information about ARC or adoption, please contact Gongzhan.Wu@Gladney.org.

China Program Update:  "What are you doing for Memorial Day weekend?" That's the question of the day -- but not too many families can say, "Going to China to bring our little girl home". Today one Gladney family leaves for their two week trip to China! Congratulations!! Our next family will depart on June 5. Gongzhan will host a travel call during the first week of June for approximately 6 families who will travel over the summer. In addition to travel news - we also received three "LSCs" for families during the month of May. This allows the parents to move on to the next step of the adoption process -- filing for 1-800 Immigration approval. If you are interested in learning more about how to apply to Gladney's China adoption program, please contact Lindsay.Hatcher@Gladney.org .

For all of us spending the long weekend with families and friends - I hope the weather cooperates and we get our fair share of watermelon and s'mores!
Taiwan
Taiwan Program Update:  We have been busy since returning home from our Superkids trip to Taiwan in April. We received confirmation on matching to waiting children for 2 families. This brings the total of matched families to 14! Congratulations to the family who traveled this month to complete the adoption of their twin 6 year old girls! We have one family who will be traveling for their court hearing and another family who will be traveling to complete their adoption in June.

We have been working to update the Superkids blog and private Taiwan Facebook group with information and photos of the new children we met while in Taiwan. We will also be posting updates on the children we met with for a second, third, or fourth time. We have already submitted 1 family for consideration for matching to a child we met for the first time! We hope to find families for all of the children we met with – help us out by sharing the Superkids blog posts on social media. You just might be the link between a child and their forever family!

Reflections On The Superkids Trip To Taiwan
It’s crazy to think that we have already been home for three weeks…going on four. Now that we are settling back in to our normal daily routine, we enjoy reflecting back on the sweet time that we had on our first Superkids trip. After 22+ hours of traveling to Taiwan, we hit the ground running as soon as we arrived.

During the span of four days, we visited two partner agencies and saw around 60 children. While each agency had its distinct characteristics, they all had precious children that we enjoyed getting to know. Our favorite experience was getting to witness their personalities shine face-to-face. We also fell in love with the people of Taiwan. Their hospitality and love for these children was such an amazing thing to witness. We were lucky enough to get to see a little of Taiwan while we were there. After a fun ride up the mountains in a cable car, we got to see just how beautiful the city of Taipei is and experience Taiwan’s immersive culture. We enjoyed all the new experiences from the variety of different foods to the shopping centers that were so packed seemingly all night.

Perhaps the most impactful and memorable parts of the trip was witnessing everyone’s level of passion for what they do. From the caregivers and social works in Taiwan to the other Superkids members, the amount of love for the children was undeniable. Additionally, we felt so welcomed by the Superkids family. We are still in awe of what it takes to make these trips successful, and perhaps the most precious thing is the enthusiasm shown from each person we met.
