What's New at Gold Ridge? | |
Gleason Beach Coastal Retreat Project | |

The Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District has entered into a long-term partnership with Caltrans to plan, design and implement projects to satisfy the mitigation conditions for the Gleason Beach Roadway Realignment Project along Highway 1. The highway project will impact sensitive habitats in the Scotty Creek watershed, and so mitigation will occur within the watershed on the Ballard Ranch.

The Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District has a long-standing relationship with the landowner of the Ballard Ranch and will work with the landowner and Caltrans to improve the health of the watershed by enhancing and creating instream salmonid habitat, coastal wetlands, coastal terrace prairie habitat to benefit the Myrtle’s silverspot bufferfly, and habitat for the California red-legged frog. Project elements will include livestock fencing to protect the Scotty Creek riparian corridor, implementation of rotational grazing plan, livestock water system improvements, and long-term ecological monitoring to evaluate project success. The Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District is proud to be partner in this project.

Get your biosecurity plan written by the University of California | |
UC Cooperative Extension is offering to help build an on-farm biosecurity plan for your operation!
Eligible farms include: small-scale, diversified farms (mixed livestock or livestock + fruit/vegetable) including backyard producers.
Why? Be proactive and protect your herd/flock
How? Two on-farm visits with a student and a UC Davis Faculty member/Extension specialist
When? Sometime between June 20th, 2022 – July 29th, 2022

50 Years Since Christo's Fence Plan: A Panel Discussion with Those Who Were There | |
Several locals who negotiated with Christo on his fence plan early on will reminisce and share their experiences in a panel discussion, including the RCD's own Joe Pozzi. There will also be a screening of the Smithsonian documentary "Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Remembering the Running Fence".
This will be on June 26, from 2pm-5pm. Location and other details can be found here.

Burn Plan Resources from California PBA | |
Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs) are community based, mutual aid networks that help private landowners put “good fire” back on the land. The Cal PBA website is a one-stop location for PBAs in California - providing contact information and useful prescribed fire resources.
They have developed a standardized burn plan template for anyone to use! They also created example burn plans and example incident action plans. Click here to access these resources!

Farmer Survey- USDA Conservation Programs | |
Pollinator Partnership (a 501c3 nonprofit) is conducting this survey under contract for the USDA to learn about California growers’ preferences for on-farm conservation programs.
Responses will be used to improve programs offered by the USDA. To qualify to take this survey, participants must currently own and/or manage farmland in California. Participants are encouraged to take the survey whether or not they have already participated in a USDA conservation program.
The survey should take about 10 minutes, and all participants who complete this survey will be included in a raffle to win one of ten (10) $50 VISA gift cards.
