Ownership Welcome
With July finally, upon us, we all look forward to the glory days of summer ahead. It comes so slow and goes so fast that we all need to take time to smell the roses and enjoy the grass. Craig and his team are beginning to meld well and as everyone keeps telling me the course looks better and better every week. The next challenge immediately ahead of us that becomes a top priority is tee box rejuvenation and bunker renovations. Our next area of construction renovation will be the maintenance building where we intend to install new software for the crew to utilize best practices for maintenance, install new windows, and additional garage doors, and recoat the building so it fits in with the rest of the beautiful property. We certainly don't want to forget Marc and all the wonderful work he does in the maintenance shed making sure our equipment is always operating to the best of its ability.

Richard and his team in the Pro shop continue to evolve and build on member relations along with coordinating new events and more opportunities for our membership to socialize out on the greens. Richard hopes to engage the membership in some nine-and-dines and perhaps bring back the Friday fun night and we may even take a shot at night golf throughout the summer. We have been getting great turnouts for men's and ladies’ nights; however, we talked about mixing it up and maybe doing a couple of scrambles from time to time so we gain more camaraderie back at the pub after golf. As many of you know, I haven’t been able to be out enjoying the course due to back issues but I can tell you the positive feedback has been extraordinary, and very exciting to see conditioning come into its own!

Sue, Curt, and Richard have been collaborating with all kinds of ideas for events in the pub or one of our other wonderful spaces for members and guests to enjoy. We, unfortunately, had to cancel a recent wine dinner for lack of general interest but we will not give up and maybe try this again in the fall. We do continue to think of wonderful events and how we can get to share all the spaces of the property for our membership. Chef Richard is always looking at new features and hopes to continue these on a weekly basis for your enjoyment and who knows maybe some will become part of the new menu in the fall. We have already had several very successful external events and I was able to partake in a couple and I can tell you the food and service were exceptional. Please consider us for an event in the future in one of our exceptional spaces which can accommodate anywhere from a dozen guests to 250.

Lastly, would have to say we are a little disappointed that members and their guests continue to abuse cart rules now that the GPS system has been disconnected. Going forward we will have to add Marshall activity more consistently to try and police the use of the carts and pace of play. It's very unfortunate that we have to do that as many people are driving far too close to greens and are taking the carts where they shouldn't be. The liability for a dangerous incident or damage to our course is significant and we would strongly appreciate if you manage the golf cart per the rules and perhaps you remind your guests and/or neighbours/or other members when you notice the course being abused.

I always refuse to end on a negative connotation so with that I will leave you with one other final comment which is my long-standing personal and business philosophy - ”Good things happen to people who do good things…..so why not do something good today.”

Cheers and thanks for your continued commitment and support@GlenArbour!

Notes from the General Manger
Good day.
Where have the first two months of golf season gone? Hopefully, you are all enjoying the course and the transition to a private golf club world. We knew that the first season would be a learning process but all and all things are going very well.
We have tried to communicate to you the members with various forums. In time we will reduce the frequency of the messaging as we determine the most effective methods. We are extremely pleased with the uptake of our Glen Arbour App. For a member, the app offers many different functions to not only improve your on-course experience but provides a link to the booking portal or to view your account. On course the score tracking, GPS distances, and the handicap feature are very good as is the online ordering which allows you to preorder food from Bunkers. The news feature will also keep you up to date with upcoming events. We encourage you to download the app and take advantage of all the great features.

The course continues to improve, and the timely rains have been a godsend as we continue to struggle with our irrigation system. I am happy to report our new pump has been installed and is working great. We hope to have the last of our pipe problems repaired this week. The irrigation is the lifeline of the course, and we will continue to upgrade the system over the course of the summer.

Over the next number of weeks, you will see two major projects commence. The biggest is by far the planned bunker renovation which we hope to start in July. The bunkers on ten fairway will be the first two bunkers we will upgrade. We have not finalized the process yet but know we will be removing the old sand, upgrading the drainage, installing a new barrier, and adding a new type of bunker sand. It is a very intensive process but our goal for 2022 is to complete several holes.

The second project is the installation of a new hitting mat. The product is ordered, and the base will be installed over the next few weeks. The new mat is called Turfhound and is the gold standard.

We would like to thank all who have stepped up as part of the adopt a hole program. We do have a few holes that we are looking to fill. Please reach out if you are interested.

Every month we are going to identify a couple of points with respect to on course decorum. This month we want to discuss golf car etiquette. We no longer have Visage GPS on our power cars. Going forward we are looking at a new system to control the pace of play and player movements. In the short term, we need players to better control where you drive please. Currently, we have a blue stake approximately 50 yards from the greens (carts arrows are on order). Once you get to the blue stake, please return your cart to the cart path. We ask that you do not park carts next to greens of tees.

We continue to work toward the goal established by ownership to be recognized as the best golf experience in Atlantic Canada. This goal is very attainable with the commitment demonstrated by ownership, patience exhibited by Members, and the buy-in from staff. It is a process and we are on track to attain this lofty goal.

The positive attitude exhibited by players and staff continues and has been infectious. Players are happy to be on the course and staff are thrilled to be at work. It’s a great environment for all to play and work in.

Greens News

Hello again, I would like to give a quick update from the maintenance department. Over the last few weeks, we have added soil, seed and hydro-mulch to our cart path edges. I ask that you please do your best to avoid driving your carts over these areas to help aid in the speed at which the seed can germinate.

The excessive amount of rain we have experienced over the last few weeks has made our Greens very soft and susceptible to ball marks. I encourage you to please take the time to fix your ball marks. Properly fixing ball marks allows the green to heal within a few days and provides a better playing surface for all our members.

Lastly, thank you! I consider it a privilege to be working for such a great membership.

Craig Acton, Associate Superintendent craig@glenarbour.com
Conversation from the Director of Golf
Hard to believe that we are already into July! The season is off to a great start, we have already had two member events, leagues are in full swing.
Congratulations Patti Parker! Patti aced the 2nd hole Sunday, May 29th, witnessed by John Allen, Joan Ramsey, and Jim Endall.
The 2-person best ball event came down to a two-team race for the gross score team champions with Greg Sutherland and Craig Maloney pulling it out in the end to secure a victory. Greg and Craig had a strong finish to pull away from Grant and Luke Baldwin in the final few holes carding a final score of 64!
Congratulations Greg and Craig!
On June 7th we were proud to support the Global Community by recognizing Women’s Golf Day. With the help of Josh and Carter, we offered a couple of clinics and invited ladies to enjoy a complimentary round on the Deerfield Par3. We look forward to building on the success of our first year being involved in the program in the years to come.
We were also lucky enough to have Adam Bazalgette, former Director of Instruction for
David Leadbetter Golf Academy, make the trip from his home in Florida to conduct a couple of clinics. If you missed the clinics this season, we hope to have Adam back next year to share his knowledge again. I had the pleasure of helping Adam out one of the days and I was amazed at how quickly he was able to see subtle points in a swing that needed a bit of attention. I highly recommend taking the opportunity to attend Adam’s clinic if we are lucky enough to have him joins us again next season.
Now that we have reminisced, here are a few things that are happening in July. We start the month with the release of Match Play draws. Match play competitions will run throughout the playing season. Matches are fun, foster club spirit and are closely followed by the membership.

Next week starting July 4th – 10th we are taking part of the National Take a Kid to the Course event

Deerfield Par3
One youth under 16 is free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tell your friends, as remember this is a community course that all can enjoy! Stopping by Bunkers or The Deerfield Pub makes is quite the day.

Championship Course
Monday, July 4th and Wednesday, July 6th
One youth under 16 is free when accompanied by an adult member. Normal age limits apply.

July 9th – 2-Person Scramble
This is a fun format to come out and enjoy a round with friends. The event is open to all adult and intermediate members. The entrance fee is $20 plus tax per player, with prizing for the winning teams, competitions, and random draws.

July 31st – Junior Tee Times
Starting Sunday, July 31st we will be blocking off times in the afternoon for our juniors to book and play with other juniors. We will also be conducting clinics prior to their tee times to help the different aspects of the game such as etiquette, rules, and the swing. Look for more details on the Glen Arbour app.

Pace of Play
As the weather gets increasing warmer the course is getting busier with the weekend noticeably in higher demand than the weekdays. An exceptionally slow day on the golf course can be extremely frustrating and this policy is intended to address those situations and individuals and to be fair to all. The success of this initiative will not rid the golfing world of all slow play problems, but it will greatly enhance the enjoyment of a round of golf. The keys to its success are awareness and consideration of fellow golfers! The policy is not intended to get rid of appropriate times of discretion and it will continue to be important for staff to use their best judgment when monitoring the golf course.
The expected pace of play for Glen Arbour Golf Club is 4:15 (four hours and fifteen minutes). This is maximum allotted time for a foursome to complete 18 holes of golf. There are many situations where a groups’ pace should be less than 4:15 (i.e. a group playing very early in the day, a threesome playing when the course is not busy etc.).

1.              Players are responsible to keep up with the group in front of them at all times.
2.              To be considered on pace, groups must be within 1 shot of the group ahead of them.
3.              When there is no group in front to use as a reference, a playing time of a maximum of 2 hours shall be used per 9 holes.
4.              For the first 2 hours of tee times, groups will be asked to play in 2 hours or less per 9 holes.
5.              Groups unable to keep up will be requested to move to the appropriate position on the course.
