Your Glen-L Newsletter
“I don’t think you should just do what makes you happy. Do what makes you great. Do what’s uncomfortable and scary and hard but pays off in the long run…let yourself fail…and pick yourself up and fail again. Without that struggle, what is your success anyway?” ~ Charlie Day
Two Glen-L Amp Eaters! Left, built by David Fannon; right built by Stephen Gaines - Way to go!

We are finally moved in to our new location in San Clemente and loving it! You can read more about it in the post I wrote below.

There are so many things that have happened since my last Newsletter, so there is much to share. Thank you to those of you who have created galleries or sent photos and posted blogs on our site. We really appreciate your input because we all learn from each other. If you don't see your photos or post in this Newsletter, it will be in the next one because I didn't want to overwhelm our readers.

Please note that we will be closed for the Fourth of July. We will be celebrating our US Independence Day with friends and family on the San Clemente pier for dinner and festivities.

Enjoy your Newsletter!
The above photo shows the beautiful mahogany desk that was once my fathers and now I am privileged to use. We are loving our new location and I've written a post with photos that I hope you enjoy. Read here
These plans are fully detailed and can be used in a variety of boat building projects. All you need to do is match the length of your boat to an Electrical Plan size and you'll be able to wire your new boat, re-wire an existing boat or add new equipment.

The plans are designed to ABYC Standard E-11. All of the wire sizes and circuit protection values are calculated so all you have to do is follow the wiring diagrams and purchase equipment to the specifications stated in the recommended parts list provided with the plans. All navigation lights shown in the plans are the required types for the size boat the plans are meant for and meet current US Coast Guard requirements. These plans are for recreational boats only. See our site for details.
Once again, we have to say farewell to another prolific designer of boat plans for the amateur builder. Naval Architect,  Ken Hankinson , passed away April 25, 2018. He will be greatly missed, but his designs will live on in all the boats he designed and are built by Glen-L builders all over the world.

Ken worked here at Glen-L for about 22 years from 1965 to 1987. He and Glen used to go out for lunch just about every day. When I was a little girl, I would come to the office from time to time and package fastening kits or collate instructions and I got to go out with dad and Ken sometimes. I enjoyed his company and he and my dad were very close. Continue reading...
Many who are building our classic mahogany runabouts RAVE about these fastenings for cold-molding. And they are great for other non-structural applications as well.

We recommend bronze fastenings in conjunction with composite. But for additional layers and veneers, these fastenings are a HUGE time saver! Imagine using metal staples to fasten your layers and then having to remove all of them! These composite fastenings don't have to be removed, saving you countless hours.

These composite fastenings only need to penetrate 3/8" into the wood you're fastening to. And the benefits continue...
  • Completely non-metal
  • No need to remove
  • Sawable, sandable qne planeable
  • Can be stained
Taking the plunge and starting a larger project.

I have been considering building a boat for many years. Firstly I was taken by the simplicity of a Michael Storer “Goat Island Skiff” and learning to sail.

Then I was captivated by some pictures of a “Melon Seed Skiff”.

Finally, I saw a picture of a  “Barrelback”  and when I heard the sound of a big V8 rumbling away underneath, power sailing suddenly seemed more attractive. Keep Reading
For years we have provided the underwater hardware for the majority of our boats--rudders, tillers, shafts, stuffing boxes, etc. But, we've had some manufacturer issues recently and some of the items listed in your plans may have different item numbers.

We are adding new Inboard Hardware to our store as it becomes available. Glenwood Marine is back up and running and doing their best to re-stock. We've added some aluminum fins, bronze rudders, Covico steering wheel and some other items.

If there's something you need that you don't see, please email me and I'll find it. Check out our online Inboard Hardware catalog.
One of my “bucket list” items has always been, “Build a wooden rowboat from scratch”. However, you need many things to accomplish this task. Besides all of the tools necessary to cut and shape wood accurately you also need a place to do the work and above all, THE TIME TO DO IT!!

I saw a T shirt once that said, “I have a super power, I can turn wood into a boat!” Follow along with me as I go through building this  Glen-L Whitehall  and you too can have that super power. Keep reading...
Many of you are familiar with our Chocolate Lab, Buckshot. And, I’m so very sad to say that he passed away on Friday, May 4.

He was just a dog–at least that’s what I keep telling myself. Then how come it hurts so badly now that he’s gone? Why do I keep crying and missing him and feel such a gaping hole in my life?
Buckshot came into our lives over 15 years ago on Valentine’s weekend. He came to us as a slobbery, furry mess of love and left us the same way. For me, he was a vessel for the motherly love I so desperately needed to give because of the void after my son Ryan’s passing. And Buckshot was more than happy to receive all the love I could give and return it in spades. Keep reading

Pour in Place Foam - 1 Gallon

When mixed, System Three Flotation Foam undergoes a chemical reaction that produces polyurethane foam in a 2lb/ft3 density, United States Coast Guard approved for flotation. This foam also is an excellent insulation material that is unaffected by fuel, paint, solvents, polyester and epoxy resins. One quart of mix will produce about one cubic foot of foam. Each cubic foot of foam provides about 60 pounds of buoyancy. This Gallon Kit makes approximately 5 cubic feet.  Learn More
