Students share their independent reading projects.
Inaugural Reading Café a hit with students
Teachers from all four of our schools recently hosted our first Read 180 Reading Café at the College of DuPage. This was an event for students to share and celebrate their independent reading projects. This also gave freshmen exposure to a college campus. The day included an icebreaker activity, student book presentations, Read 180 trivia and a presentation by College of DuPage about the school and the services it offers students.
Glenbard East English department chair Sara Schumacher summed it up nicely, "The best part of this job is watching students who might have defined themselves as "reluctant readers" find their book and then share the wealth of their enjoyment with others."
Glenbard North teachers Anne Bremner and Samantha LeCrone have been selected as national finalists for the HMH Read 180 Educators Awards, which recognize educators' dedication and achievements inside and outside the classroom. This is a nationwide search and they were the only teachers selected from Illinois.
