5.  Congratulations to Glenbard East student Maeve Condon and Glenbard West student Devon Kelleher on being part of the All-State company of “Cabaret.” Condon was on costume crew, and Kelleher was part of the cast. Students from our four schools were scheduled to attend the Illinois High School Theatre Festival earlier this month, but the festival was canceled. However, the All-State show, which is a highlight of the festival, was still performed for a limited audience. Rehearsals for this production began in August and continued over several weekends throughout the first semester.

6.  A summary of information regarding the number of positive cases of COVID-19, individuals quarantined due to COVID-19 exposure, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data and SHIELD Illinois data. Fee Waivers
To assist families who were financially impacted by the pandemic during the 2021-22 school year, we expanded the qualifications for fee waivers to include families with household incomes from 130% of poverty through 260% of the federal standard. This one-year adjustment has resulted in a reduction of revenue of approximately $145,112 to date.

For the 2022-23 school year, we recommend expanding the fee waiver qualifications beyond the original amount but to limit qualification to the federal reduced standards of 185% of poverty. We believe this will maintain our commitment to provide relief to families in need while also being fiscally responsible.

- IASB/IASA/IASBO annual conference expenses. The board approved payment for lodging and parking expenses totaling $1,811.90 for board Parliamentarian Robert Friend; board members Martha Mueller and Mireya Vera; and board president Judith Weinstock and payment for travel expense and parking reimbursement of $110.83 for Mueller and travel expense, parking and meal reimbursement of $210.24 for board member Vera during the 2021 Joint Annual Conference.

BOARD INFORMATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS INCLUDED:

- awards and recognitions. Board members recognized the following students for their outstanding leadership skills and academic achievement: Glenbard East students Jenna Tumlos and Ann Nguyen; Glenbard North students Daniyal Bekinalkar and Italibi Granados; and Glenbard West students Allyn Gordon and Kamari Spencer.

- Glenbard Parent Series update. Student and Community Projects Coordinator Gilda Ross shared an update on the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families, which embodies Priority 3 of Glenbard District 87 to “Strengthen productive home, school, and community partnerships for education”. GPS is recognized regionally and nationally as a model program for engaging parents and community members from diverse groups to increase successful outcomes for students.

- renewal of intergovernmental agreement with Carol Stream Park District – pool. The Carol Stream Park District has approached us to discuss a renewal to the cooperative agreement whereby we use the Fountain View Recreation Center pool for physical education programming (life safety) for Glenbard North and Glenbard’s swim team programs. The contract stipulates we make a $350,000 contribution to the project paid over a 10-year time frame. The agreement is set to expire in 2023, and both parties want to extend the contract an additional 10 years.

The $35,000 annual payment entitles us use of this facility for physical education programming during school hours and swim team use in early morning and late evening time slots. The 25-yard pool features eight IHSA regulation lanes that support swim team practices and competitions.

This opportunity continues to provide us access to a swimming pool at minimal cost, especially when you consider that high schools that build pools incur a capital investment well in excess of $5 million and incur annual operating expenses in excess of $200,000.

- Policies & Procedures for 1st reading and discussion. Board members discussed 2:105 Ethics and Gift Ban; 4:175 Convicted Child Sex Offender; Screening; Notifications; 5:30 Hiring Process and Criteria; 5:185 Family and Medical Leave; and 5:220 Substitute Teachers.
