Glenridge Middle Community Member
We have a full week ahead of us! Congratulations to the boys and girls that were selected for the basketball teams. They will open the season on Monday at Union Park Middle School. Good luck!
I want to invite everyone to the SAC meeting on Tuesday afternoon. We will be discussing our mid-year progress on our academic goals. Tuesday night is also the Winter Park High Rising 9th Grade Orientation. This will be held on the main campus in the auditorium beginning at 6:00PM for all 8th grade students attending WPHS next year.
Thank you to our families that have already supported our annual fundraiser (featured below). This Mega-Blast fundraiser is the only school-wide fundraiser that we hold. The funds will be used to purchase various resources for our students and allow us to cover expenses for teachers not covered in our annual budget. Our students and teachers are working extremely hard in the classroom, it means a lot to our staff to know they have the support of our families. Please reach out to myself if you have any questions.
We will be sending out invitations to our 2nd quarter Lion Leader event by Friday. In order to receive an invitation, students must have earned all A's and B's on their report card, had less than 3 class tardies ( Not including 1st period due to buses), and not received a level 2 or higher referral during the second quarter. If your child does not receive an invitation, and you believe he or she should have, please reach out to Camille.Cassara@ocps.net on Friday. She will be able to help.

National Assessment of Educational Progress
8th Grade
|
|
|
Dear 8th Grade Parent or Guardian:
Glenridge Middle will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on Thursday, February 15, 2024. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation's Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents/guardians, policymakers, and the public.
Your child (will/may) take a mathematics or reading assessment. In addition to subject-area questions, students voluntarily complete NAEP survey questions. These questions provide valuable information about participating students' educational experiences and opportunities to learn both in and outside of the classroom. Additionally, American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) students will be included in the National Indian Education Study (NIES). NIES describes the condition of education for AI/AN students in the United States.
The assessment takes about 120 minutes for most students, which includes transition time, directions, and completion of survey questions.
The information collected is used for statistical purposes only.
- Your child's grades will not be affected.
- Students may be excused for any reason, are not required to complete the assessment, and may skip any question.
- While the assessment is voluntary, NAEP depends on student participation to help policymakers improve education. However, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify me in writing by Friday, January 26, 2024.
There is no need to study in preparation for NAEP, but please encourage your child to do their best. Contact Robyn Bowers at (407) 623-1415 or at Robyn.Bowers@ocps.net if you have any questions.
We are excited that our school is participating in NAEP. We know that Glenridge Middle's students will show what our nation's students know and can do.
Sincerely,
Daniel Kempinger
