Our Lions came back ready to work this past week. It was great to drop into classes and see our students working hard!
2023-24 Fundraiser
We started our school-wide fundraiser last week. Please check the community brief below for more information. This is our only school-wide fundraiser of the year and the money is used to support our students. We hope you can help.
Progress Monitoring Assessment Results / SAC Meeting (Jan. 23rd)
Our data for our second round of state progress monitoring assessments have come back and we are excited to see the growth in math and reading. These tests track progress towards meeting the grade level expectations for the entire year. We increased our proficiency level in reading and math by 5% and 17% respectively. This is a strong indication that classroom instruction is producing positive results. If you would like to hear more about our performance data, I recommend attending our next SAC meeting: Tuesday, January 23rd- 4:30 in the Media Center.
Student Report Cards (Jan. 18th)
Report cards will be sent home on Thursday, January 18th for quarter 2 and will be available on Skyward. Once available, please take some time and review your child’s grades with them. Remember we are starting a new quarter. This is the time to break old habits, start fresh and begin the second semester with a positive outlook and focus on our academics. Counselors will be sending invitations for our Lion Leaders Friday and next Monday.

Lion Spotlight
Scripps Spelling Bee
|
|
|
While most students were relaxing over the break, we had over 50 students cramming for the Scripps Spelling Bee list. On Friday Ms. Hindle, with the help of some gracious parent judges, completed the school-level competition that will send one student to the district competition in hopes of eventually making it to Washington, and ESPN for the national competition. |
|

Dear Glenridge Middle Families,
Our Mega Blast FUNdraiser got off to a great start last week! Many students have already earned their 4 Golden Ticket prizes! Thank you to everyone that took the time to register. Your participation is appreciated! We informed the students that they can still register to be entered into our drawing for the Apple Airpods, Smart watch or mini fridge. If you haven’t already done so, you can register quickly by clicking the link below:

This entire fundraiser can be completed in less than 10 minutes!
Send out 10 or more emails via your personal donation page. By doing this, your child will qualify for the Golden Ticket prizes and drawings! Have your student return their Golden Ticket to school by Wednesday to be part of the fun! It’s very easy and a great way to support your student as they use their awesomeness to help our school.

We had to formally say good-bye to Ms. Tyree just before the winter break. We sent her out in style though! We will miss her enthusiasm and energy, but wish her a wonderful retirement…she’s earned it. |

National Assessment of Educational Progress
8th Grade

Dear 8th Grade Parent or Guardian:
Glenridge Middle will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on Thursday, February 15, 2024. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation's Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents/guardians, policymakers, and the public.
Your child (will/may) take a mathematics or reading assessment. In addition to subject-area questions, students voluntarily complete NAEP survey questions. These questions provide valuable information about participating students' educational experiences and opportunities to learn both in and outside of the classroom. Additionally, American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) students will be included in the National Indian Education Study (NIES). NIES describes the condition of education for AI/AN students in the United States.
The assessment takes about 120 minutes for most students, which includes transition time, directions, and completion of survey questions.
The information collected is used for statistical purposes only.
- Your child's grades will not be affected.
- Students may be excused for any reason, are not required to complete the assessment, and may skip any question.
- While the assessment is voluntary, NAEP depends on student participation to help policymakers improve education. However, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify me in writing by Friday, January 26, 2024.
There is no need to study in preparation for NAEP, but please encourage your child to do their best. Contact Robyn Bowers at (407) 623-1415 or at [email protected] if you have any questions.
We are excited that our school is participating in NAEP. We know that Glenridge Middle's students will show what our nation's students know and can do.

Curriculum Highlight

On the last school day in December, Ag students harvested radishes, arugula, lettuce, spinach, peas, kale and shared the bounty amongst themselves and staff. |

Trent K's flock of quails began laying over the winter break. Quail eggs have a large yolk and are sometimes described as "richer" or "creamier" than chicken eggs. |

Dr. King provided many leadership lessons that could have applicability for our Lions as they progress through life. Among them:
• Set goals and make a detailed plan of action to reach them — for yourself and your organization.
• Understand your adversary's point of view to recognize the weaknesses of your own positions.
• Never seek to humiliate your opponent; search for common ground.
• Conduct a postmortem analysis of every action to learn from your mistakes.
• When speaking, relate stories of individual acts of courage and sacrifice to help make your cause relevant to the daily lives of those affected.
• Practice what you preach.
• Stay awake to new ideas and have the courage to change.
• Keep fellow leaders focused on priorities.
• Keep followers well-informed.
• Constantly look for alliances, if only on one issue.
• Listen to your critics carefully.
