LinkedIn: Abel Heilegiorgis, a Rutgers Mandela Washington Fellowship alum from Ethiopia, was recognized by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken at a reception for African Innovators as part of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit for his work with Bamboo Labs, creating wheelchairs and bicycles out of the material, which is stronger than steel. For Students

Lives in Translation is offering a Spring 2022 Internship in Translation and Interpreting for Spanish and Portuguese speaking students.


Through this internship you will gain professional, real-world experience, attain knowledge of this growing industry, and earn 3 academic credits by interpreting and translating for one of the internship partners listed below.


Our current internship partners are the Rutgers Law – Child Advocacy Clinic, Rutgers Law – Immigrant Rights Clinic, American Friends Service Committee, La Casa de Don Pedro, Liberty Science Center, and Rutgers Speech-Language Pathology Clinic. The internships require 8-10 hours of work per week, including a weekly 1-hour workshop, in exchange for 3 academic credits. This internship begins on Tuesday, January 17th.

Spring 2023 International Student Orientation, 1/16/23, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Livingston Student Center


This mandatory orientation welcomes, prepares, and engages new students and their families in their transition to Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Through presentations and interactive activities, students will learn more about the Rutgers campus, connect with Rutgers departments, resources, and staff, and get guidance from current Rutgers students. ISO is also an opportunity for students to make friends as they begin their Rutgers journey. 


Open to graduate and undergraduate international first-year and transfer students. Visit global.rutgers.edu/ISO for more information.

Save the Date: Friendship Fridays, Story Stitch Coffee Hour, 2/3/23, 4:00-5:00 p.m., Grad Student Lounge, College Ave. Student Center


Friendship Fridays are a weekly event open to all Rutgers students, both domestic and international. Each week there is a different theme where attendees can enjoy games, activities, and conversation - all while making new friends from around the world.


Everyone at Rutgers has a story! For this Friendship Friday, spend the hour listening to other students' stories while sharing your own and building authentic connection. This activity is designed to help create understanding between students from different backgrounds.
