Ice Cream Party

Join the Global Ambassadors to learn how to make ice cream and meet other domestic and international students. This event is free and open to Ohio State students, and will take place on November 28, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Launchpad at Bowen House. Register by November 27 at 12 p.m.

Reading Day with Global Engagement

Ohio State's Reading Day is on December 6. Join Global Engagement in 100 Enarson on December 6 from 11:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. to prepare for exams or take a break. We will have snacks and coffee available while supplies last, but the room will be open until 9 p.m. (as well as on December 7 and 10 from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.) for those looking for a quiet place to study.

Scam Alert

An increasing number of international students and scholars are targeted by scams. The most common scams encountered are those involving tuition, taxes, traveling, employment and immigration. The Columbus Division of Police recently released a video describing the most current scam targeting international students. As the holiday season approaches, please be suspicious if anyone who demands that you wire them money. Do not share your personal or financial information with unknown persons, and remember that government officials will never call you and ask you for money.

Global Engagement Night

Global Engagement Night invites international and domestic students to participate in cross-cultural discussions about different regions of the world and share their thoughts on topics affecting all college students. Global Engagement Night takes place on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in 160 Enarson Classroom Building. The next Global Engagement Night will be on November 27, and it will be the last night of the semester. We will be celebrating with a potluck, so please bring a dish to share!

International Film Series: The Dark

The Office of International Affairs collaborates with the Gateway Film Center to host a monthly international film series. Students have the chance to view films from around the world for free! The next film will be, horror movie, "The Dark," which will be shown on Wednesday, November 28 at 7 p.m. at the Gateway Film Center. Prepare to be terrified! Students do not need to register for the event. Admission is FREE for students with a BuckID and offered at regular price to the public. Contact Renée Bishai with questions.

Join the Exchange Partner Program

The Office of International Affairs will soon begin accepting applications for the Exchange Partner Program, which matches current Ohio State undergraduate students with incoming international exchange students. Interested students should be committed to helping exchange students feel at home on our campus and should show the desire to promote cross-cultural understanding at Ohio State. The application for the 2019 - 2020 academic year will be available beginning December 17, 2018, and the application deadline is Thursday, January 31, 2019. You are strongly advised to first review the questions and type answers into a Word document, then re-open the application to copy and paste in your answers (if you leave the application open for too long it may not submit properly).

Seeking Passionate Buckeyes for A Once-in-A-Lifetime Opportunity

In the 201920 academic year, Ohio State will select 150 students from across the university to participate in the Sesquicentennial Student Scholar Leadership Program. These scholars will be ambassadors for the sesquicentennial celebration, will serve as representatives of the university, colleges and our campuses, participate in a Buckeye-focused leadership development program and receive a $2,500 scholarship. Any student in good standing currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or professional program on any Ohio State campus is eligible to be a Sesquicentennial Scholar.

EDUTL5030: Spoken English for International Students

ESL Programs through the Department of Teaching and Learning will begin to offer EDUTL5030, Spoken English for International Students, in the 2019 spring semester. This two-credit hour course can be taken at the undergraduate or graduate level by international students who want to improve their spoken English skills. Students can choose between Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:15 - 7:05 p.m. In addition to focusing on fluency and confidence-building, the course will provide students with practice in participating in class discussions, group work, conversations and public speaking. Apply for the Beanie Drake Scholarship

Please consider applying for the Edward S. Beanie Drake scholarship. The Beanie Drake scholarship provides funds that enable deserving students to participate in campus activities when need might otherwise make it impossible for them to do so. These funds are solicited in the form of donations from student organizations of The Ohio State University. The application to apply will be live November 26 - January 18, 2019.
