Designing Meaning in Japan Through Advertising and Graphics

Aubrey Vanson, a third-year design major and art history minor, is passionate about creative expression and the role of design in everyday life. This past summer, she participated in the Design in Japan study abroad program to further explore how design and advertising can communicate meaning. Read her Global Aggies story.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) July Camp

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Join this free online program featuring collaborative and interdisciplinary courses, lectures and activities focused on the SDGs. Participants may choose from 17 SDG-related courses. Deadline: May 31.

 

Peace Corps

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Peace Corps places volunteers in more than 60 countries to support grassroots projects in education, health, agriculture, environment, community economic development and youth development. Volunteers serve for 27 months. Join an upcoming Peace Corps info session to learn more and receive application tips.

 

GoinGlobal Job and Internship Database

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​GoinGlobal offers career exploration tools for students seeking opportunities in the U.S. and abroad. Resources include location-specific career guides, employer profiles, cultural and inclusion learning tools, H1B visa and OPT-friendly employer resources, and job and internship postings.

 

Global Research Opportunities

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Explore research opportunities offered by institutions abroad and plan ahead for future international research experiences. Many programs are available to undergraduate and graduate students with no program fee, while others offer scholarships to help offset costs.

Competitions, Challenges and Funding


St Andrews Study Abroad Award—Spring Semester 2027

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This award supports participation in the UCEAP University of St Andrews program. UC Davis students applying for the semester or academic year program through the 2025–26 application cycle are eligible. Awards of up to $7,000 are available. Deadline: June 19.

 

Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford in England

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Rhodes Scholarship provides full funding for one to three years of master’s or doctoral study at the University of Oxford in England. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher and be between ages 18 and 27. Interested students must meet with Prestigious Scholarship Advisor Scott Palmer to access the pre-application. Campus pre-application deadline: June 28.

 

Marshall Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Marshall Scholarship provides full funding for one to two years of master’s or Ph.D. study at universities across the United Kingdom. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher. Interested students must meet with Prestigious Scholarship Advisor Scott Palmer to access the pre-application. Campus pre-application deadline: June 28.

 

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This program offers annual awards for U.S. citizens completing a bachelor’s degree by the 2025–26 academic year to conduct research, study or teach English in more than 140 countries. Campus deadline: September 3.

 

Schwarzman Scholars

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Receive a full scholarship for a one-year Master of Arts in Global Affairs at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Scholars live and study on campus while completing a core curriculum in public policy, economics and business or international relations. Deadline: September 9.

 

AIFS x Meta Wearables AI AgTech Hackathon

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Join the May 15–17 hackathon and collaborate with a student team using Meta AI Glasses to address a real-world food systems challenge. Open to UC Davis undergraduate and graduate students. Apply individually to be placed on a team. Winning team members receive a cash prize and invitation to a Meta event.

 

Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Fellowships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​These nine-month fellowships offer research opportunities in India for recent graduates (minimum bachelor’s degree required) and graduate students pursuing master’s or Ph.D. degrees. Campus deadline: September 2026.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​UCEAP spring 2027 applications are now open. UCEAP programs offer UC credit and financial aid. Program options include immersion, special focus, language and culture, and internships. Find a UCEAP program.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​May 13, 8–9 a.m., virtual. Join members of the Schwarzman Scholars admissions team for a webinar on the program and selection process. The Schwarzman Scholarship provides full funding for a one-year graduate program at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

 

La Gran Tardeada

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​May 16, 12–6 p.m., UC Davis Quad. Join us for La Gran Tardeada and enjoy food, music, dancing and cultural celebration honoring more than 50 years of Chicanx and Latinx community, pride and tradition. Free and open to all.

 

Fulbright U.S. Student Program Overview

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​May 18, 12–1 p.m., virtual. Learn about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which funds one postgraduate year abroad to conduct independent research, serve as an English Teaching Assistant or pursue a master’s degree.
