GLOBAL MISSION
WE WALK TOGETHER

I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another – John 13:34-35
Dear Global Mission Advocates,

I am writing to invite you to the 2019 Eastern Washington – Idaho Synod Assembly at The Riverside Hotel in beautiful Boise, ID on May 17-19, 2019. This year’s theme is “Global Mission: We Walk Together.” Given the theme, we’d like to have as many GM Advocates at Assembly as possible. You could go as one of your congregation’s voting members, or you could register as an observer on the Eastern Washington – Idaho Synod website. If you are not a voting member and you need a scholarship to help offset the cost of Assembly, please contact the Synod Office at office@ewaidsynod.org. What follows will be some information about this year’s Assembly. More information can be found at https://www.ewaidsynod.org/2019-assembly-about.

We are excited to welcome guests from our companion synod, the Ulanga Kilombero Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. Additionally, we are partnering with the ELCA so that our Assembly will be a Glocal event, featuring guests to assist in worship leadership, provide plenary addresses that explore our theme, and meaningful workshops that will deepen our connection with the global church.

We are grateful to welcome Pastor Gabi Aelabouni, Director – ELCA Fund for Leaders, as our Churchwide Representative. The Fund for Leaders assists candidates for rostered ministry in the ELCA in seminary costs. It is an important aspect of walking together as the church.

Offerings given at Synod Assembly will be evenly divided between the Ulanga Kilombero Dioscese and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services. One way that your congregations can participate in Assembly is by designating certain offerings be given to the Synod Assembly offering. In the past, congregations have donated some or all of their Lent offerings to Synod Assembly offering recipients. Your voting members can even bring a check with them and place it in the offering plate. We walk together!

Thank you for your support of and interest Global Mission here in the Eastern Washington – Idaho Synod of the ELCA. We hope to see you at this spring’s Synod Assembly. As you can see, it’s sure to be an excellent event highlighting our partnership and accompaniment with our sisters and brothers in Christ throughout the world!
