Dear Members of the YANA Community,
I hope this email finds you managing as well as you can during these unusual times.
In spite of the personal and economic stresses many in our community are facing, YANA has been lucky to be part of several silver linings. We've seen people turn pain and frustration into purpose. We brought in a new class of Board members, the largest and most diverse group YANA has ever had. We’ve been able to build and even expand our online programming — finding new ways and opportunities to educate and bring people together. And we continue to find inspiration from your work and commitment to improving the world. We are motivated to continue to use our position to link people and organizations with one another.
YANA continues to be the connections hub for students, alumni, and nonprofits asking for or offering assistance. Below, you will find links to many videos and recaps of the virtual town halls, webinars, and online community-building YANA has been privileged to host over the past few months. I hope you find them as inspiring as we do!
Many thanks to all of you for your dedication to social impact and support of YANA. Your perseverance, innovation, and compassion are inspiring, and I am confident we will navigate this turbulence together to emerge even stronger.

What a pleasure to be able to celebrate YANA's achievements in its first decade, including an expansion of our community and connections, and unprecedented consecutive Yale Alumni Association Board of Governors Awards in recognition of our marketing and publications and programming centered on social inequality. We above all celebrate the enthusiasm, generosity, and support of our mission from all of you to create a vibrant, engaged community committed to advancing the greater social good.

Since I began my involvement in YANA in 2018, I have witnessed and experienced its mission to connect Yale alumni leading and creating a positive social impact, imbuing hope, justice, and peace - locally, nationally, and globally. The potential of YANA became evident with the first activity I organized during the UN Commission on Status of Women, focusing on restorative justice and small scale agriculture and rural development. |

When I first discussed the program with the YANA New England group, the possibilities for it unfolded. The group ignited the program with ideas and suggestions for experts in sustainable development, social media included a member of Yale Blue Green. At the end, we delivered a dynamic program including practitioners, state representatives, and diplomats. The program exemplified the goodwill and support YANA can provide to an organization, not to mention its outreach and influence.
Following our first program, we carried out other events at the UN and in Vermont. During our monthly YANA New England meetings, we discuss inter alia our respective non-profit goals, and share ideas on social education, health, and social concerns. During the current pandemic, the group held several virtual events and produced a newsletter focusing on health, education, conversation, and food security. I have really enjoyed meeting YANA members and appreciate its collaborative spirit. In this regard, I would like to especially thank Rachel Littman for her dedication, insight, and guidance.
So, congratulations on YANA’s 10 year anniversary, and for its continuation as a beacon for empathy, social justice, and the power of good.

On Dec. 1, YANA organized our largest breakout room session ever, with 79 people spread across more than a dozen groups organized by geographic location.
The program was so successful that we will host another global networking program on February 4th organized by areas of social impact, like public health, environment, housing, and other fields. More info & registration to follow.

The Yale Philanthropy Conference is an interdisciplinary forum for current and future leaders in the business of social change. Now in its 16th year, the conference attracts leaders from the non-profit, public, and private sectors to explore the complex and imaginative ways that the bounds of philanthropy are expanding. This year's conference is themed "Reimagining Philanthropy," and will examine philanthropy’s power, purposes, history, limitations, and opportunities, with a special focus on how philanthropy has both contributed to and worked to dismantle inequities. |
