Yimer travels to Tanzania |

Getnet Yimer, GOHi's regional director, traveled to Moshi, Tanzania in mid-December to participate in the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership sponsored tuberculosis (TB)-node primary investigators meeting as well as the EXIT-TB data management workshop. The two-day workshop brought together principal investigators and data managers from Uganda, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia. A new database with a number of innovative features was developed and introduced by the National Institute for Medical Research in Tanzania, and it will be used for the EXIT-TB project that was recently launched in the five countries. Yimer is the principal investigator of the Ethiopian site and will work with Addis Ababa Universitys CDT-Africa to facilitate the implementation.

Lonnie King, DVM, MS, MPA, ACVPM, is currently academy professor and dean emeritus of the College of Veterinary Medicine, The Ohio State University. He has served as dean for two colleges here at Ohio State and is a leader in both agriculture and public health. Kings scientific expertise and interests include: One Health, emerging zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance, food safety and global health. |

Gebreyes and Yimer appointed to Ethiopias Ministry of Science and Higher Education Advisory Council |

Professor Wondwossen Gebreyes, GOHis executive director and Getnet Yimer, GOHis regional director accepted invitations to join the advisory council of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MoSHE). The new ministry in Ethiopia is responsible for leading the development of science, higher education as well as the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sectors in the country. MoSHE recognizes inputs from senior scholars as essential milestones in effectively achieving its mission. Therefore, establishment of an Advisory Council that can provide regular inputs by consulting and advising the top management in the areas of science, higher education and technical and vocational training in Ethiopia has been planned.
