The first PhD student from Somalia, Ahmed Abdulkadir Hassan, DVM, has defended his thesis titled, "Epidemiological study of trypanosome species in domestic animals in Mogadishu, Jowhar and Afgoye districts of Somalia," at the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil (UFPR). The student exchange came to fruition during the 2017 ICOPHAI, when UFPR and the Abrar University began designing its memorandum of understanding. The collaboration now also involves partners from Sudan and Tanzania, and additional students are expected to pursue their PhD and master’s degrees next year. GOHi applauds the continued effort of our global partners to train the next generation of One Health scientists and leaders.
